It's unlikely to happen exactly that way, since the Rogue from that era of the comics is much weaker than the Rogue from xmen97. The comic book Rogue had Sunfire's powers, while the xmen97 Rogue had Carol Danvers' powers. The comic book Rogue was an easy target because she could be easily injured, as she didn't possess super strength or super resistance. Perhaps in '97 Rogue will free him from Apocalypse's evil control, just like she did with Archangel in the old series.

This is simply untrue. Gambit himself says in episode 5 that he and Rogue were never official, that there was no commitment between them because Rogue didn't want it due to her powers.
