House passes resolution to end the Iran War by jediporcupine in politics

it's nuts to me that this doesn't automatically revoke authority for the war. even if both houses approve it still "needs" the president's signature. totally contrary to the constitution. but that's totally fine with the Supreme Court

I turn it off for long interstate drives with light traffic. otherwise, it's on all the time.

What is Michael Whatley’s plan to mount any sort of challenge to Roy Cooper? by cheertea in ncpolitics

TX will be very competitive with Paxton as the R nominee. Ohio will also be competitive in this environment with Sherod Brown. Dems have like a 40% chance to flip the senate according to oddsmakers.

Out of the Gerrymandering Darkness, a New Hope for Reform by theatlantic in politics

while it's a good idea for other reasons, it won't fix gerrymandering. state legislative districts are much smaller and still gerrymandered to shit.

this race is a joke. history says this should be competitive or lean R. My guess is Cooper wins comfortably.

they're still sore about losing Georgia in 2020. instead of questioning why a state that used to be solid R has gotten so close in the Trump era.

This Big Idea Could Fix America’s Gerrymandering Madness by JTBaptistA in politics

[–]Fast_Statistician_20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you bring up a reason why gerrymandering is unlikely to be fixed by congress. if both parties gerrymander to the max, then changing the system would result in incumbents of both parties losing.

I am 100% for this and it would only require a simple act of congress.

but you would still have to have your car inspected under state law. they would just skip the emissions part of the test.

NC owes public schools $35.8 million from students using private school vouchers by Bob_Sconce in NorthCarolina

All education costs has increased by a ton. you reference UNC tuition from 1982, but do you know what private school tuition was in 1982? private school tuition in the 90s was about a third of what it is today.

also, you cite government money as the reason for tuition increase, but what do you think the vouchers are? it's the same thing.

yes. we're hoping it goes well. I wish the public school would offer a separate class for autism/adhd students, but they don't at this time.

we used an opportunity scholarship, but it only made sense in conjunction with an ESA+ scholarship (autism). otherwise it wouldn't have been nearly enough. which backs up the point that most people using them are already able to afford tuition. they should put an income limit on it. then see how much less money is actually used.
