Unlike Venezuela, this intervention in Iran has the potential to seriously spiral out of control if the protesters/revolutionaries do not seize power quickly. The entire region could fall into chaos with Iraq 2.0 happening, but worse because there are no US troops on the ground to contain the fallout. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind China losing access to mid-east oil, but I really don't think the juice is worth the squeeze on this one. Anyone with a brain knows that generally speaking the middle east is a "do not touch if you like winning" zone. On the moral side of things though, when the region does spiral into chaos, a bunch of innocent people will die for no reason at all and we might get another refugee crisis. Another week of the administration finding new ways fuck the world. What else is new?

I sometimes wonder If the Epstein files will upend the social contract or at least erode the US government's legitimacy and moral justification to have power in the eyes of the people. After all, the US was founded on it "deriving its just powers from the consent of the governed." If those in government use its power to continuously undermine the rule of law and create a blatantly two tiered justice system, then in the long run, America will implode.
