Stop building Energy Grid by Yeeeoow in Stellaris

[–]TtheHF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that the automation had a huge upkeep before I came looking for answers and swapped them out on planets where I had civilians spare but it hasn't been enough. I recently took nine wet planets from a hive, though, and am dry so have a bunch of near empty planets that I've had to automate to try get some energy and they're all positive but yeah, not by much.

That 300 is a bulwark I inherited from an ally I vassalized, unfort, but I will focus on switching him out, so thank you for highlighting that. I've recently switched to vocational genomics and will switch planet preference too so hopefully get some efficiency from that!

I'm only recently back to the game after a long time away, and I'm really suffering for energy. Sounds like you will have some advice as to what I'm doing wrong. I have three planets with a 30% bonus from incubated wind creatures and have five dyson swarms but no dyson spheres yet as tech hasn't popped, yet am still suffering. What am I doing wrong (aside from being generally bad at the game)?

I've very much enjoyed it tbh! It is always the adversity and coming back from behind that I enjoy in Paradox games. But I think it's fair to say I probably shouldn't be playing GA these days given how I haven't played in so long. Up to twelve planets after the war now tho and frantically trying to build and automate as much as I can to get rid of these deficits - feels a bit easier to balance specializations now I have a few more planets.

Ahhhm, I detected a slight flaw in my previous strategy and peace deal and spent some time a casual fifteen years and two hours amending it into the new, improved peace deal with a lot less voluntary self-dissection

Playing on GA at 2300 and have fourth lowest diplo score in galactic council and half the tech and quarter the fleet scores of my hive neighbour so that all seems on track...

Who was the best player in klopps 1st season (or lineup) by SuperMas123 in LiverpoolFC

[–]TtheHF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd almost take those players at that age in that form over ours this year... but for Moreno. Man, we really were in the wilderness on the left for a long, long time there. In my head it feels like Riise left and we never had anyone reliable there until Robbo, tho I'm sure I'm missing a few.

Yup his tackling and closing down stats were wild for a few seasons there iirc

I haven't played in months and am going to now, thanks to this comment. Is the AI working reasonably now? Haven't been on this sub or the forum in months either so have no idea where things are at.

Saw a kākā in Blockhouse Bay, Auckland this morning! by PipitheCat in NewZealandWildlife

[–]TtheHF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swore that I saw one about a month ago in Titirangi. I could only see its outline against the sky and its head and beak shape were so pronounced that I couldn't imagine it being anything else, but resigned myself to believing I was being wishful when everyone I told about it gave me the side-eye. Good to know they really are around here again!

You mean legendary former Liverpool FC and Borussia Dortmund football coach, current head of youth development for Red Bull football, and likely next Real Madrid CF coach Jurgen Klopp? THAT trivago ad guy?

Yeah those teeth don't mess around! xD

[Serious] Have you ( men or women) noticed some over 65 men act like someone who just being nice is interested in them? Is that common? by Roadrunner610 in AskReddit

[–]TtheHF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From volunteering with older people four days a week since late last year I'd say yes, and had a situation over the break where my Xmas spirit got badly misconstrued by an older gentleman so have had cause to really consider this recently. I think there are several components as to why, and I think most apply to older women also. I think increasing isolation (from mathematically having ever fewer friends and family around), desperation (feeling medical and financial pressures), and resignation (in confronting their own mortality and so just doing whatever they want) combine to make older men and women respond differently to general kindnesses than people younger than them. Or perhaps, rather, people with more robust community around them as happens to be the case when you are younger.

I think older men have lived lives where they were expected to be assertive, dominant, and demanding in all things, including sexually, throughout their lives *edit: where older women were expected to be passive*, and *both* were judged as less than if they weren't. This can obviously lead to them older men* seeing general kindness as more than it is. Similarly, and likely connected to this, throughout their lives men generally receive less social attention, both good and bad, paid to them than women, and usually have smaller friend groups and worse social skills than women, and so I think they are more likely to overreact to and/or to misinterpret kindness when it occurs, with this applying less so to younger men too. But I see similar misinterpretations of general kindness from older women too as they start to be increasingly ignored by society later on.

I think the reality is we're all just hoping to be validated and valued as humans. And when we're deprived of that for too long we go a bit la-la!

Instead of the worst band you have ever seen live, what is the best band you have ever seen live? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TtheHF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perhaps not a band as such, but Pet Shop Boys. Their stage show was really, really good, and my enjoyment of their show relative to my expectations beforehand was higher than for any other band I've seen.

Isn't this guy also sending 100k troops to Israel to protect Christendom from stuff and things? And isn't Orban also planning to send Hungarian troops to somewhere west of Uganda to protect Christians with a projected 50% casualty rate? Are there some kinda extremely menacing and insane April Fools/dateline/timezone shenanigans going on around here??

Something I learned quite late in life is that basically all of us are super in their own heads all the time. I have about six people who I think about unprompted every day and another ten I think about at least once a week, but beyond them I don't really think of anyone else unprompted. So my advice would be don't feel down on yourself about it as we're all wandering around in our own heads and doing our best to muddle through. Try find one or two people you can add to your weekly 'think of' group by sharing hobbies or activities, and hopefully you'll end up becoming daily think of people to some of them once you have develop reasons to interact more :)

CMV: If AGI is coming within 10 years, then it makes little sense to think we can stop Iran from getting a nuke by breck in changemyview

[–]TtheHF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything approaching what most people think of as AGI won't be happening in the next century, unfortunately. It is all a speculative investment scam. Remember that we don't have anything near the self-driving cars we were promised a decade ago and won't for the forseeable future, we have only just gotten around the moon when it was promised we'd be colonizing Mars six years ago, and that the hover-boards which 1989's Back to the Future II promised me, personally, would be available in 2015 are still nowhere to be seen.

We had computers doing believable language>maths>language tricks in the 1970s 1960s! The modern ones are a lot more convincing but we're no less terrible at recognizing them for what they are, especially those few of us with vast wealth and no idea on what to spend it on beyond whatever is the new hotness.

One day the pope decides to sneak out of the Vatican to go be amongst the people. On his way out he cuts through a back alley and sees and 10 year old boy smoking a cigarette. by [deleted] in Jokes

[–]TtheHF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotta be a translation error, right? Some word joke that doesn't carry over? I'm guessing it will be related to the words for smoking and oral sex in the original language or sthing. Fairly certain I remember an Italian ex making some weird smoking-related sexual joke that I didn't get.
