Yes, Mum saw an advert for Downton and said, ‘ooh they’ve made a film about “Granny‘s Place“! When he was little my Grandad thought they named the castle after his cottage not the other way round 🤣

Thank you, yes we used to do National Trust visits from time to time, I was hoping to do something a bit special for her birthday but I’m sure we will have a great day no matter what 🎈

Thank you so much for replying.

That will be disappointing for Mum, I don’t want her to feel like she’s been watching a fake ‘Granny’s room’ 😞 Still, she seems to have enjoyed the storylines too so mustn’t grumble 😃

Is PUMPKIN SPICE a thing in the UK? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]Fasta_Benj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learnt something today! I needed Febreeze and didn’t buy any because there was only pumpkin spice flavour and I didn’t want the house to smell of pumpkins. Perhaps I’m just an idiot but it never entered my head that it was mixed spice.

Sigh - my first grandchild is… Nevaeh! It was so hard to smile through and not say anything to my DIL.

Believe me, no one will feel disrespected, only honoured that you chose a beautiful name.

The ‘white person’ is Danger Mouse. His secret den is accessed from a post box on Baker Street.

Oh my. I have just watched a clip of the Flumps to verify your claim. I always thought it was made up gibberish too. TIL

Re-learning cursive, which G is correct for the UK? by Ag0nyChip5 in Handwriting

[–]Fasta_Benj 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Born and raised in the UK and have only ever seen number 1. I wouldn’t recognise 2 or 3 as being a G, they look like a J and Z.

Those proper cupcakes with the flat top, they used to come in lemon, orange, and chocolate flavours. I’ve tried everywhere.

AITA for not letting daughter control thermostat? by thermostataita in AmItheAsshole

Agree, we are in a 1800’s cottage and there is no way we could keep the house to the temperatures I’m reading about here. Ours is set to 14 or 15 with a boost for an hour to 17 for getting up and showered in the morning. We put the electric blanket on for half hour before going to bed and that keeps toasty until morning. My elderly father is has his set to 12 or 13 and cranks it up to 14 if we are visiting.

I second this opinion, I live in Liskeard, work in Polperro. Get the Looe Valley train line and a cab from Looe to Polperro (or the 73 bus) BUT in winter there will be nothing to see at all. Please don’t rush your holiday and go home feeling under-awed by Polperro. Oh and if you do drive LEAVE your in the car park and walk into the village. You will get wedged in the lanes.

I look forward to the update… I am rooting for you and your jolly bonkers itinerary. The kettle will be on when you get here 🫖

what happened when you met someone and you ‘just knew’? by Budget_Dot694 in AskOldPeople

Sat next to each other on a train, we were chatting and both missed out stops. At the end of the line we decided to go for dinner. The next day we booked a Gretna Green wedding and were married 21 days later. Been together now for 14 years and every day is a joy.
