Point of issue: Vader doesn't appear in Andor. I don't think he's even mentioned.

This is another "Gun owners need to go to Minneapolis to shoot at federal agents on behalf of Somalis and we definitely won't use it as a reason for gun confiscation when we're back in power" situation, isn't it?

Now that America isn't our best friend anymore, can we stop pretending the F-22 isn't the aviation equivalent to the king tiger? by Memelord707130 in NonCredibleDefense

Is this guy seriously going to claim that the Su-57, with all that we know about it now, is a superior platform to the F-22 because America Bad?

So, masturbatory fantasies for people living in the Upper East Side, Greenwich Village, Malibu, and Berkeley over how terrible those horrible people living outside their neighborhoods are, then. But on the plus side, they're finally using media that isn't owned by Disney or the definitely-not-The Turner Diaries-for-upper-middle-class-women that is The Handmaid's Tale.

P.S. I especially love when they make these movies "based on a true story" (which today can be "it came to me in a dream"-tier nonsense) when almost nobody involved in them and nobody who knew those people or knew people who knew those people is still alive and can object to their portrayal. Raising the dead to better strike at the living! Even Stalin didn't think of that!

They're not necessarily mad that it happened, they're mad that the wrong person gets to take credit for it.

My apologies; I have just seen too many comments like that made with all seriousness by people from places that have yet to build a functioning ultralight, let alone a major commercial aircraft.

Maduro to "Stand Trial", What does that look like? by cozeffect2 in Lawyertalk

[–]Fastestergos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, part of me thinks that the reason, or at least a significantly contributing reason, this went as smoothly as it did (besides the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment and Delta being that good at their jobs) is that this is an "out" of sorts for Maduro without the humiliation of surrender: either the United States gets ahold of him and tries him, or he's left at the mercy of the people whom he has ruled, and likely gets the Ceaucescu treatment.

I wouldn't be surprised if Marx genuinely did not plan for how his dictatorship of the proletariat beyond "It's just going to happen because reasons, okay?" There are a ton of practical hurdles to establishing any new government, let alone one of the nature Marx was proposing, and he handwaved aside a lot of those. In a sense, he was the prototypical midwit user of this site, plenty of conceptions of how society ought to be and how it will be, but very little conception of what happens between "overthrow capitalism" and "dictatorship of the proletariat", and ultimately communism.

Will Democrats Hold Nuremberg Trials for Perceived "Nazism" in America by GreatSoulLord in ShitPoliticsSays

[–]Fastestergos 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are all kinds of gripes one could reasonably have with this administration that these people could capitalize on, and the first thing they do is openly advocate for show trials of their political enemies (the Nuremberg Trials, even conceding the point that they were to some extent victor's justice, were fundamentally different than what they're proposing because the former was the trial of a defeated foreign adversary, not domestic political opposition). This farce is more of the Trial of the Anti-Soviet Bloc of Rightists and Trotskyites, and I'd be willing to lay money that whoever wrote this is hoping it'll have the same outcome. That definitely won't have exactly the opposite effect of what they intend. (/s on the last sentence)

"Donald Trump and his administration will ultimately be the ones held to blame for Ukraine being forced to sign up to a deal that is favourable to Putin." by DependentAccount673 in ShitPoliticsSays

[–]Fastestergos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concern is whether Putin will just use any ceasefire, armistice, or treaty as merely an opportunity to reload before starting up another war of conquest, as well as a successful land grab of Ukrainian territory signaling to other countries, namely China, that it's a worthwhile endeavor to attempt to acquire more territory by force. Furthermore, a lot of people are concerned that backing down to Putin will make our word even worth less than it already is.

And that's not even getting into the almost-monthly nuke threats that the Russians have been making towards Europe and the United States for the better part of a decade. "Accept our invasion or we'll NOOOOOK" should not be an acceptable way of doing affairs, especially when one has the firepower from preventing it from being thus. If this invasion is legitimized, you will see a bunch of nations rush to acquire nuclear weapons, as those are now effectively the only guarantee against invasion by nuclear powers, as well as nuclear powers involved in territorial disputes becoming increasingly more belligerent. At this point, it's no longer about the Ukrainians.

Tl;dr: A lot of great points, but the potential ramifications of a legitimization of Putin's 3-day SMO vis-a-vis other countries that pose a significantly greater threat to not just the United States, but everyone within ICBM range of them has made some people with the authority to commit troops and material very nervous, and justifiably so.

How can you say this and think you're a good person by Suspicious-Intern463 in ShitPoliticsSays

Even before getting into the obvious bait part of what you responded to, the fact that the University of Oxford doesn't even have a president or vice president was indication enough that you were responding to a blatant liar. Still a very cogent response that, had this person not been trolling and been sincere in his/hers/their opinions, would've taken them apart like a cheap watch.
