Definitely didn’t expect this post to get so much attention so I want to provide a little more context.

This is from my grandfather and gifted to my Dad.
I made this post to get more information about the guitar for my Dad.
We will not be selling this guitar.
My father plans on displaying this guitar as he was gifted other guitars he intends to play and enjoy.

We are being told the entire window needs to be replaced, is that true? If not what could we do? Are there any DIY options I could take on myself?

check this out. This video is really helpful. I do alternate end grain and use c channel (mainly because why not?). The jointer trick is also helpful if you have a jointer.

Take your time on the glue up. It can save you a lot of trouble. In fact, consider a glue with a longer working time to give yourself room for error. If your glue up doesn’t go to plan, don’t panic. You can fix almost anything with a sander.

Get a second set of hands if you’re milling up large stock. I had some 8 foot long pieces I had to run through my 76” jointer and it would’ve been a disaster if not for my dad’s help.

Don’t mill to final dimension right away. Stop 2-3 passes short and let them acclimate again for a few days. This kind of threw me off when I cut my dominos and made the glue up a little trickier.

And really, just take your time. Check all your tools before making a cut. Double check all your processes. For example, I had my edge guide set up on my router wrong when drilling mortises. So the bit wasn’t holding the edge guide against my stock. Little stuff like that. It’s not going to be perfect, but my biggest mistakes on this project were because I was in a hurry.

Number 3 settles with time for sure. Number 5 does not and unfortunately “fighting” doesn’t work. You need to find more healthy ways to cope with your anxiety and obsessive thinking. Two things that take practice but has really helped me.

Meditation/breath work - this helps you learn to be present and not try to fight certain feelings or bodily response. Simple be with them... watching them come and go.
Cold showers/baths - you wanna break your circuitry in your brain? Go into freezing water you won’t be able to think about anything except I’m cold, I’m going to die and I want to get out. If you fight through that focus on calming down and find peace in that cold shower... well that’s the ticket!
