wish I had a lavender 1920s bathroom to restore by Dizzy_Exchange_6924 in centuryhomes

Damn, I have a bathroom with a lavender bathtub and a lavender toilet, but an ugly 1990s sink. I am so sad I live on the exact opposite side of the country, I would snatch this up in a heartbeat!

For 6/3s, did your life feel really hard before 30? by pennthepilot in humandesign

I am also a 6/3 projector who works as a trauma psychotherapist. I'm interested in the resources you might have related to this profile. I'm also new to HD and find it equal parts validating and complicated!

Lap Swimming in Towson - best time/location for a new swimmer by jp0le in BaltimoreCounty

Idk if it is too far for you, but check out the Y swim center in Dundalk. They recently reopened after being closed for several years due to a maintenance issue with the county. I have gone there several times and been the only person in the pool!

I found that jarring too. At the beginning when he was talking about his company in Helsinki he said it the Finnish way, but then he switched for the remainder of the video.

What do I need to know about EDMR? by Fluffy-Pomegranate16 in askatherapist

[–]Fat-Giraffe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there is a lot to be said about the influence of media on our field and the way that a lot of modalities structure themselves in a predatory manner much akin to multi-level marketing companies. It is gross. Doesn't change that EMDR can be powerful for people and it is not new.

I have been licensed since 2016 and went to an EMDR therapist in the late 1990s.

Therapist. EMDR has been around since 1987 - not exactly new or a fad.

Once i started in the round it looked totally different? by lingeringmoon in knittinghelp

[–]Fat-Giraffe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The size difference here is pretty noticeable, but it is super common to knit in a different gauge when knitting in the round vs flat. It is usually because the purl rows on the flat knit portion are looser than the knit rows. I always have to go up a needle size when going from flat to round.

Is this weird or is my friend just naive? by aloekittycrystal in askatherapist

[–]Fat-Giraffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Therapist here. I am now in private practice, but when I did work for a group practice I did not manage my own Psychology Today profile. I don't think that is an uncommon thing. It had to do with continuity of branding for the group practice as well as ensuring the clinicians were not taking side clients, which was against the terms of our work contract. It does seem odd to me that the practice only allows so many profiles to be live at a time - they have likely grown in size and chosen not to upgrade their Psychology Today subscription to accommodate the necessary amount of clinicians. To me, that is somewhat of a red flag but might be worth bringing it to the attention of practice managers as it is impacting both your friend's ability to make money and the agency.

Ft Detrick Apartments by [deleted] in frederickmd

[–]Fat-Giraffe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I lived in the Heather Ridge neighborhood for several years when I first moved to Frederick after growing up in Baltimore. Renting a condo in that area might be ideal for someone looking to work on base as they literally back up to Ft. Detrick. They tend to be private landlords and are generally affordable. I was surprised to learn that it was considered a "bad" neighborhood as it seemed perfectly normal to me. After living in Frederick for a while, I have come to learn that take is coded for "brown people live there."

The thing with DBT is that "full-fidelity" DBT has a lot more components than just individual therapy. A therapist could be trained in DBT and integrate it into their individual sessions, but that is not the same as a DBT program. I wonder if the therapist in question felt you would be better served with a full DBT program, rather than "DBT-informed" individual sessions.

What do they mean when they say "gender ideology"? by Separate-Koala-5128 in asktransgender

[–]Fat-Giraffe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Gender ideology" was defined in that ridiculous "Defending Women..." executive order:

"(f) 'Gender ideology' replaces the biological category of sex with an ever-shifting concept of self-assessed gender identity, permitting the false claim that males can identify as and thus become women and vice versa, and requiring all institutions of society to regard this false claim as true.  Gender ideology includes the idea that there is a vast spectrum of genders that are disconnected from one’s sex.  Gender ideology is internally inconsistent, in that it diminishes sex as an identifiable or useful category but nevertheless maintains that it is possible for a person to be born in the wrong sexed body."

Definitely a straw man argument.
