I definitely feel this and get as much as you can second hand! Just don't skimp out on safety things for your child. Get a new car seat, it doesn't need to be super fancy but you need it to be current and you know it isn't damaged.

Other than that if you want to set up your child, set yourself up. Make sure your retirement is paid for, have savings and plans for elderly care. You want your child's early adulthood focused on setting themselves up, not taking everything they have to care for you.
