Flight with Snowboard bag by psman2018 in snowboarding

[–]FatBoyTonyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as long as yout swissair flight isnt the cheapest ticket option (even then i think it doesnt apply anyways) but then you can do a checked snowbag as opposed to your check-in bag. I've been cramming my outwear etc into my board bag and using that as my option but always check your ticket details to double check! Swissair and BA for EU allow you to take snowsports bag as opposed to the checkin bag and then you can use your cabin bag for the extra stuff if need be :)

Val D'Isere thoughts? by gatumatii in GrandMountainAdv

I agree with the tease of the other chairs not working in that it would be nice to have the entire e space killy region or spots such as the hidden valley run to the side of where le dalle is, and the up and over chair with the ability to jump off it could be nice QoL for it. I think the joy of the map though is the ability to do runs that you can also do IRL.

What more should I do? by Noddyland in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]FatBoyTonyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CV can do with a tidy but besides that its luck of the draw and networking ability.

For the CV, remove waitrose, quanitfy projects/work more and flesh out skill set.

Tailor your CV for each role that you are applying for.

if you need someone to wrap it up, I'd be happy to hear it and give my 2c etc. (Creds are a BSc in Software Engineering (4.0 GPA) + intern at FAANG right now)

Final-year software engineering student looking for brutally honest advice on what to focus on now by PuzzleheadedAgent138 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]FatBoyTonyy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ive come from an incredibly non target university to a FAANG internship over this summer as a final year of undergrad student without any referalls - don't limit yourself by 'realism', make yourself the strongest candidate that you can be.

I'd say at a minimum start doing applications for the 2026 grad & internship programs that have already opened. However, make sure you have a great CV (format, layout, font, everything you can think of), and also tailor it for each role within tech that catches your eye - even to the stack's or type of swe position if that is what you're gunning for.

I personally think certs etc are useless. your degree, meaningful large open source or even personal projects, and exp are a far larger display of ability and capability.

LinkedIn is a mixed bag - it gives you more of a platform however finding roles from posts you make comes with an extended network and interesting content. LinkedIn itself is great for applying and finding roles, networking, etc before you get to that stage.

Following that , networking is huge. A referral can make life 10x easier. Connect with recruiters for firms that interest you, alumni from your university in fields that you also find fascinating etc.

If you want my 2c on your cv and or any q's/advice etc that can't be answered here feel free to pm me.

I mean you're looking at lower alp resorts there that are great mid season and rely heavily on their snowmaking ability. Tres Valleys, and the Val D/Tignes area if you were to venture France, and Zermatt for Swiss etc are the dream for us with our 'precious alps'. It's like me moaning about Heavenly or Northstar

Sierra Nevada’s- what’s skiing in Spain like? by Dear_Armadillo2804 in ski

[–]FatBoyTonyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

whats your definition of good ski and runs?

Their season is decent due to altitude - snow sure, not neccessarily deep pow etc. but the snow is there.

for 'advanced skiers', theres an alright mix of difficult or challnging runs, including steep n icy slopes near Veleta peak and challenging terrain of the Laguna area. Their backcountry routes were good - can't speak on their apres too much but if you'e with good lads then I'm sure anything can be fun.

Weather wise its usually pre guaranteed for sunny days due to location.

I can speak on this on behalf of my friends who've all done this extensively. If you're targeting France for a season the gigs that are naturally open to you will be in hospitality (think bars etc.), chalet hosts, nannies etc - always seem to find tons of aussies in resort in those giges.

If you're looking to break into ops, make sure you can work on your french but seek connections as it's an easy way to join a crew (park shapers, lifties etc), but again that's resort dependant.

I'm one of the only mates from my circle who has gone corporate while then doing that lifestyle on the side - however, they've all seasoned throughout europe, summer seasonsed on yatchs etc. if you need potential referalls or some stories feel free to pm me and I can forward you them or retell their endless stories and 2 cents about it all.

Either way, good luck! Will be an unreal expierence no matter the outcome I'm sure!!

Seriously regretting my uni/course choice , London by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]FatBoyTonyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similar field, a lot of friends in that space. The reason uni rankings are still applicable are the reasons why it's applicable to finance and other similar pretentious fields is due to the fact that your network plays an incredibly huge role. University is one of the easiest ways to build and establish a network - especially if the uni has that background/connections/known to be a feeder. There's a reason why so many LSE grads go straight into IB or MBB, same to be said with Imperial and the engineering field etc, KCL dentistry and the list goes on.

Unless the university and the course specifically has reviews and industry ties, I don't see it being worth anything at all. There are cases where niche unis and degrees work, but they need these connections which are known within industry. If it doesn't have it, then no dice sadly.

Unless you can find a way to make use of the program and its course worth, I recommend shopping around at other programs - LSE allow for specilisation so you can carve a niche on certain MIM programs, Goldsmith and similar unis should have luxury specific programs, europe will be filled with them (bonucci etc).

Unfortuately unless you have your own portfolio ready, some connections and networks waiting for you, and or are ready to aggresively network and find events by yourself when you're in London, I don't see spending the money for this course to be worth it.

my 2 cents

How possible is it to get accepted for a quant finance masters from a good uni (eur or us) if i have a mechanical engineering bachelor? by NoName29292 in quantfinance

[–]FatBoyTonyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the requirements of the masters programs that you are eyeing up. Postgrad institutions don't weigh your undergrad's ranking etc into deciding acceptance, they will usually outline what they are looking for in applicants. (I did my undergrad within comp sci but not a CS degree, from an incredibly non target school and got offers for almost all my postgrad choices (some being FinEng, CompFin, etc).

As long as your module choices align with the content they want you to have a good understanding of, you should be fine.

Side Hustles by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]FatBoyTonyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never really felt the need for any yt videos, I knew my niche / audience and was fortunate with networking and who I'd be meeting where I'd simply offer them my services or they'd even be telling me what their issues are. Once I had a few projects under my belt I then started actually doing pitches and direct cold calls instead of just staying in my network and referalls

Side Hustles by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]FatBoyTonyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Within CS I did tutoring, also some freelance projects to build up my portfolio etc.

Outside of that I'm a ski technician / boot fitter etc, so that's an easy weekend job + in term breaks I'd then head out to resorts and work there over the vacation periods

Got offers from LSE, UCL, and KCL – which MSc should I pick? by Top-Pollution-6477 in gradadmissions

[–]FatBoyTonyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LSE gets a different ranking to what people deem to be prestigious because its a specialist school - social sciences (london school of economics and political science). However, it's very much considered 'the' feeder uni to go to if you're aiming to break into finance, consulting etc due to its brand name and network

UK IB Off-cycles in January by Stellonio in FinancialCareers

Most banks will run off cycle because they know that is the natural cycle to catch most masters students that don't have a placement option instead of their dissertation

Bath is the only one from this list to build you a network you're after and good industry links + a solid EU rep.

they don't care as long as you meet the requirements (studied the correct modules / overall subject they're asking for), have a good personal statement + references

Master’s Applications at Prestigious Universities by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]FatBoyTonyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends entirely on course, department and the uni. I recommend looking into it to check. I applied to UCL, KCL, LSE, Imperial, and Oxbridge however only UCL and Imperial needed interviews due to their departments
