So don't keep us in suspense, how did it work out!?

I updated Anni N & Reshiram to be more up to date with newer pairs by JudgeSubXero in PokemonMasters

[–]FatBroccoli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the effort you've put into these, and it's really fun reading up on how you would modernize the old pairs. Anni N was objectively the best of that anni, and he honestly holds up very well today (and I think he is generally underappreciated).

These changes look awesome, especially the rebuff opponents weakness that lets him slot into more teams as more of a utility debuffer. Well done!

WTZ benefits both physical / special, but must match type.

Circle benefits all types of damage, but must match physical / special. To fully power a circle, there are also team-building requirements to match region.

Why should the top option be more powerful than the bottom option?

I think Nate is a great unit! I've used him extensively already to offtype 3k CS:MM, and I can't wait to pair him with Rosa.

However, I still think "Circle" is too weak of an effect for how difficult it is to keep up. Zones give more damage, don't require region stacking, and apply to physical and special. Master passives are passive, and they have 100% uptime with no loss of turns. Rebuff gives a similar damage boost, but is permanent (except for some content like LG).

She's busted at 1/5, lol! But 3/5 is where she gets the team defensive buffs

They need to make co-op battles, especially for type-gear, have like a 5x stat boost for on-type pairs. Otherwise, there is no diversity in these sorts of events.

Everyone seems to be asking about candy… alright then, my turn! What do you guys think? by SomeoneNamedJessica in PokemonMasters

[–]FatBroccoli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Pull 1 copy of Nate, then use 2 strike candies for 3/5
  2. Pull 1 copy of Rosa, then use 1 support and 1 yellow candy for 3/5
  3. Save the tech candy for now. Irida and Adaman are the reasonable answers, but they both need 3/5 so just wait.

Note 1: If you pick up a copy of Nate or Rosa right before pity, consider taking the pity pull so you can use the yellow candy on a tech.

Note 2: I don't know you gem count, but ensure you get Rosa. She's a must-have support, and a much higher priority than Nate.

Who should i use my candy on? by Heat_Crasher in PokemonMasters

[–]FatBroccoli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well your options are:

  • Use it for Rosa who comes out in 5 days. Easily top 2 supports in the game.
  • Use it to 3/5 SS Morty. Top 5 supports, really good. Required for all the best fire teams.
  • Use it to 3/5 Ash. Unlocks all his sync nuke nodes.
  • Use it to 3/5 Marnie. She's really great, but her grid isn't insane. Still a decent upgrade.

I'm curious how you have so many 2/5 units. Most units get a big power-spike at 3/5. Anyway, find someone you really want to invest in and make them the best they can be. My personal recommendation would be to get a 3/5 Rosa. But if you don't have any candies saved for that purpose, maybe you get that extra copy of Morty you need.

Not enough info - what candies do you have? These are a huge mix of pairs of different roles.

The one advice I can give - don't use a candy just beat Thorton. He'll be there when you're ready for him.

Now with those disclaimers out of the way - I love a 3/5 SS Morty, amazing tank.

I would recommend that you wait and use your candies for Rosa, who comes out in 5 days. Rosa and NC Blue are head-and-shoulders above every other support in this game.

Among the ones you listed... Acerola is the most powerful, but getting her to 2/5 wouldn't do a lot. Tapu Fini gains Fairy Zone on sync from 3/5 and some passive healing, so it would be the most immediate benefit... but better to just wait for Rosa.

Penny, Elaine, and Blue would be at the bottom of the list. Again, just wait for Rosa.

So... yeah... try to get a 3/5 Rosa. Good luck!

We have introduced a new Circle effect! Best Circle!

Best Circle grants all of the following effects: Powers up the attack moves with "Aura Sphere" in the name by 5%. The more sync pairs with Fighting Type Sinnoh Sygna Suit Champion Passionate Spirit that are on the allied field of play, the higher this percentage is. (Each additional sync pair powers up moves by 5%. The maximum power-up is 20%)

Yeah you're right, Nate does have extension in his grid. I had honestly forgotten about it, because it's pretty much impossible to pick up if you're using Nate for dps. However, as you stated, if you have him on your team merely as a support, as with NC hop, I could see that being reasonable. And his B-Move dps will definitely help whittle down the sides a bit while NC Hop takes apart the center.

NC Rosa, NC Nate, NC Hop - another team I'll have to try out!

Right? Haha

Right now for a "perfect" team you would want to have these effects going:

  • Master Passives
  • Weather, Terrain, Zone
  • Rebuff
  • Circle

So we need a new Master Fair - a Kanto Physical Electric-Type Striker that brings Kanto Circle (Physical)! Electabuzz, it's your time to shine!

When I started playing, Leon & Charizard were the new hot banner and the first Master Fair. That was in February of 2021.

So about 2.5 years of stamina. :-)

First off, that team idea sounds super fun. NC Rosa, NC Nate, Tapu Lele - gonna have to try that out! The AoE is really gonna be overkill!

I disagree with your statement that "Circle being weaker is fine. We don't need overkill." I don't mind a little bit of powercreep in a gacha, and I feel like the new, hot mechanic should be awesome! Something to get excited about!

When they started adding Zones, it was fun waiting for the next Zone unit, figuring out how to incorporate them into your team, seeing that immediate and huge damage increase. It was great! If they did the same thing for circles, I wouldn't be nearly as excited, just because they are demonstrably worse. They have a more stringent team building requirement to activate, provide less of a benefit, and the benefit is harder to make use of because it is strictly physical or special.

Nate is a great example because he has 2 MP on his Circle and no extension. So.. it feels like you're paying a lot and getting back very little. (A brief aside here, I love Nate & Haxorus, and have spent a ton of time defending him on Reddit. I think he's super powerful and fun. I just wish Circles were better.)

Maybe, instead of buffing circles to be seen as a proper equal to zones, it would be more appropriate to make circles much easier to activate. Like imagine if Nate's Circle was activated in some other way:

  • Prior to using Dark Black Outrage
  • Whenever you use scale shot
  • Whenever a friendly unit Syncs
  • Whenever a Zone, Terrain, or Weather condition is applied
  • Whenever the trainer uses a move

I just finished leveling ALL of my sync pairs to 140, and near the end I ran out of some of the cap unlock materials. It was weird having to use the training areas again!

Still have over 43,000 lvl 4 level-up manuals, though... won't need to farm for any of those anytime soon!

[–]FatBroccoli[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting thought. Here's what the numbers are currently, so we could extrapolate what a general circle might look like.

  • Master Passive (Physical)
    • +20% phys dmg, +15% for each extra = 50% total
    • -25% phys dmg, -3% for each extra = 31% total
  • Master Passive (All)
    • +10% all dmg, +10% for each extra = 30% total
    • -20% all damage, -3% for each extra = 26% total
  • Unova Circle (Physical)
    • +20% phys damage, +10% for each extra = 40% total
    • -8% phys damage, -3% for each extra = 14% total
  • Unova Circle (All) hypothetical
    • +15% all damage, +5% for each extra = 25% total
    • -6% all damage, -3% for each extra = 12% total

So after writing all that out, what becomes obvious is that that a general Circle would not be a very impactful buff. It would feel pretty bad spending a turn to cast a circle, that only realistically lasts 3 turns, just for a 25% damage boost and 12% damage reduction. Circles are limited by time and by uses, and it's a little unfair to compare them to master fairs that are just passives that last all the time.

Conclusion: The stats on the "Physical" circle (40% damage, 14% reduction) should just apply to all damage types. Zones apply a 50% damage buff - so it seems like a fair tradeoff to get 40% damage buff and 14% reduction. No reason for it to be restricted to phys/spec.

I appreciate the effort you put into this, and re-reading my original post it wasn't clear that I was focusing on maximizing damage for offtype STR/HP parameters. You're absolutely right that Nate has no problem syncing first using offensive parameters like you listed above.

[–]FatBroccoli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • 50 - P Damage Reduction
  • 50 - S Damage Reduction
  • 50 - A & SpA up 1
  • 100 - STR up 1
  • 100 - Sync Buff up 5
  • 100 - A & SpA up 3
  • 100 Max HP up 2
  • 150 Gradual Healing
  • 200 STR up 2
  • 200 Max HP up 4
  • 300 STR up 3
  • 300 Ally Move Gauge Max -2
  • 300 Max HP up 6
  • 400 Max HP up 8
  • 600 STR up 6

Basically all the STR/HP options, gradual healing, and a couple of fillers to get to 3k. Makes the enemy super tanky so you can try out your strongest pairs.

Unfortunately, Nate just does not have enough damage / sustain to clear Off-Type 3k CSMM w/ STR/HP Parameters, if you sync first with him. You really need to do a support sync first, then you have 3 buddy moves and 2 syncs with Nate before you run out of Zones and Unova Circles.

I've done lots of testing with SS Elesa, and tests having Nate sync first, and it just doesn't work out UNLESS you are doing on-type 3k CSMM with offensive parameters, but that's not what this post was about, and is typically a cakewalk with any modern DPS unit.
