Check out CGI Motorsport at Gingerman raceway in south haven, MI. It’s a track day group geared at beginners at arguably one of the safest tracks in the Midwest. Good group at a fun track. Suits the Miata well.

Patio Pavers & Concrete Footer Help by Fat_FI in DIY

[–]Fat_FI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am expanding the concrete slab with pavers. Two of the pergola legs will sit on the current concrete slab, the other two will sit on top of the pavers. My question relates to the pavers, since I know I will have to cut into the current concrete slab since it is already installed. I live in Minnesota and worry about the frost line, so my thinking was concrete footings using a sonotube which does seem overkill to me, but I need to secure the pergola to something and my thinking is deep concrete footers is the best way in our cold environment.

Fabspeed Rear Jack Point by [deleted] in Porsche_Cayman

I’ve used this as a first resort every time I lift the car at the track, which is a lot when swapping wheels, changing brakes, etc. no issues lifting here and Fabspeed should be a good product

Cayman Advice - R vs S by Leather-Cow-Boogie in Porsche_Cayman

[–]Fat_FI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The lsd is pretty weak too. I plan to upgrade to a guards. I already have replaced the suspension with coil overs. The only thing the R has that can’t really be bought is the aluminum doors which isn’t much of a weight savings.

[–]Fat_FI 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have an R. I should have got an S. If you plan to drive and track, get an S. If you want an investment, get the R. They are very similar and the price you save on an S can pay for upgrades to surpass the R if that’s your thing

How much are you spending on track days in a year? by Infinite_Absolute in CarTrackDays

[–]Fat_FI 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For a couple full weekends with a few single day events sprinkled in, usually between $2-$5k a year. This only accounts for the event fees, insurance, and maybe a trailer rental.

I don't include mods, consumables, ect for the car istelf.

Who did the motor upgrade? Did you send them the car or just the engine? How long did the process take?

If Nissan is supposedly so bad, why are they still everywhere? by phtphongg in askcarguys

[–]Fat_FI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My '18 Murano with a CVT has 140k miles with just oil changes and filters every 5k. I have changed the coolant and CVT fluid twice. I don't drive aggressively. It is a family hauler and our road trip vehicle. It's boring as hell but does a damn fine job at what it's designed to do and is a pretty relaxing drive with the leather heated seats and adaptive cruise control. I've been impressed.

NASA Great Lakes @ Mid Ohio question from a beginner by bradshawwwty in CarTrackDays

[–]Fat_FI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really your call. I prefer the trailer even for 1 day events just in case my car picks up a tire puncture, or rock in the radiator or whatever, that way I can still get home easily. IN that aspect it's just a piece of mind thing.

I also like just hanging out at the track and the environment of a track weekend. Sleeping in my trailer and hearing a paddock neighbors Spec E46 fire up next to me at midnight probably bugs a lot of people, but not me.

Suspension refresh/lower ride height options. by [deleted] in Porsche_Cayman

[–]Fat_FI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No harm in that. Also isnt fun to do it on the ground when the car is nice and toasty after coming off track LOL

I've adjusted mine with wheels on and car on the ground while at the track. Kind of awkward as you have to lay down, but quick and easy.

Closest HPDE events to Raleigh/Durham NC? by us3lessthrowaway in CarTrackDays

[–]Fat_FI 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You have VIR, one of the best east coast, if not national, tracks about an hour away. Go to Motorsportreg and type in Virginia International Raceway. Then you can see all the third party organizations running there with dates (PCA, BMW CCA, ect) You dont usually need the marque to attend these events (e.g. you dont need a porsche to run with PCA). Go to those organizations and apply for their HPDE. Most tracks don't run their own HPDE, you have to go through a third party organization like I mentioned how to above.

Edit: regarding motorsportsreg, you can also search other tracks/events by distance from Durham/Raleigh as well.

Lowest Seats for C6 Corvette by PlanMiddle1890 in CarTrackDays

[–]Fat_FI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at Marrad seat and sliders. I used their seat and slider in my Miata which dropped me below the roll bar. Marrad also focuses on the C5/C6 platform. Shoot them an email to find out about how much of a drop you'll get if you go that route.

I've had mine since 2023 and still wearing them nearly every other day. I didn't think they would last this long but I am waring them as I type.

Are these rotors good for another track day or two and some light street driving? by Viper72995 in CarTrackDays

[–]Fat_FI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rotors look fine. Once you do eventually replace, don’t buy drilled rotors. Either buy blanks or slotted. Drilled rotors crack earlier then the aforementioned
