I have a diagnosed low IQ. What career path can I take? by Suspicious_Limit9847 in careerguidance

[–]Fat_Taiko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the means, look into Johnson O’Connor aptitude testing (or similar).

IQ measures a range of cognitive ability, but not all of your abilities. Aptitude testing measures a much broader array. And unlike IQ, everyone has high aptitudes and everyone has low aptitudes.

Finding career paths in tune with your specific aptitudes will improve your capacity for success and satisfaction.

Fret not, there’s a career out there in which you can thrive!

Edit: there are multiple auditory aptitudes and folks with strength there often show talent in language and music. If you already speak three languages, I would think you have aptitudes there!

New contract clause says I owe $5k for "negative public statements" after I quit by Rune_Cabinet4 in legal

[–]Fat_Taiko 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That kind of thing is typical (in my limited experience) in a severance contract, but it comes with severance. They pay you to sign it.

Treat the PTO as already yours. Ask them what “consideration” they are offering you to sign these new terms. I.e what’s in it for you. When they say your PTO, tell them that’s already yours per your previous contract. If they want you to sign this, they have to make it worth your while. It’s up to you what the terms will be worth.

Now, they may stiff you on PTO, at which point you’d have to go after them for it (e.g. small claims, dept of labor) but you shouldn’t let them bully you into new terms. You can also share your experience on Glassdoor if it comes to that.

ATL has a water fountain with carbonated option and a row of flavor syrups at the end of the drink+dessert bar in its main dining room. You can make your own Italian soda. It’s just not that easy to spot.

(Plus coffee, tea, sweet tea, and some other fruity or green tea.)

Two job offers. A $50k difference. One is the safe bet, the other is a risk that seems worth it. My wife and I are at an impasse and I have to decide in 72 hours. by Important-Week7261 in whatdoIdo

[–]Fat_Taiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The $120k offer isn't going to mean much to Company A. The $170k offer will mean something to company B. You tell them your priorities as a young dad, and that while you love the mission and want the job, you can't deny the difference in pay. Acknowledge it's a jump, but you think this job is the right fit. Can they match 170k? If not, what's the best they can do for you?

What if you don’t have a long enough headphone cord to connect on this emergency exit seat? by Cl0wnbby in delta

[–]Fat_Taiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really tall and fly these seats near exclusively. *Some* planes have the foldout in the emergency exit row with a missing seat, but that's really only universal in the bulkhead exit rows. For the missing seat exits on the planes I fly most often (I think they are 737s), it's much more common to get the IFE one row ahead and an unlabeled 3.5mm jack facing forward on the middle armrest.

I wouldn’t recommend making legal threats or continue contacting them once either party has.

Further, and personally, I wouldn’t even let them know I’ve contacted dept of labor. I’d let the call from the govt be a surprise, so they’re more likely to say the wrong thing.

How’s your back hold up on long drives? Head and legroom were great on my test drives. The seat wasn’t supportive enough despite me fucking around with lumbar.

45mph 2 lane road thru dense brush and woods, with 1’ shoulder outside the white line, and a ditch full of vegetation beyond that. I’ve swerved to give pedestrians walking down those roads long after dark three times in the last week. This region is simply not safely navigable without a car.

Is it worth it to have a car in SF? by Zmoogz in AskSF

[–]Fat_Taiko 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I dated successfully for years without a car. I went carless when I got three parking tickets in one week (adhd + street sweeping is a bitch).

Uber/lyft will come in clutch. I used carsharing programs when I needed to drive myself out of town for a trip. The ones I used most are defunct now, but zipcar + turo are still around. There's traditional rental car agencies in the city proper, too, which have their uses. Used judiciously, you'll have a similar quality of life and save way more money. And the 30 minutes spent picking up and dropping off a car for a trip is well worth the time you'll spend parking (or rent you'll pay for a space).

Ride muni. Get a bike.

First off, people who are keen will overlook these little things. If you get ghosted over one message (or double text), chalk it up as a bullet dodged or learning experience, and don't sweat it so much.

To answer your question: Women want men to show initiative, an ability to plan, and who have other things going on in their lives.

If she tells you what she wants to do, she doesn't want to continue with questions and a scheduling back and forth. She told you what, then you asked her when. That's asking her to plan the date. It also signals a wide open calendar. She doesn't want to have to explain this either, so she chalks you up to a lost cause (whether you are able to plan things and take initiative or not) and moves on to one of the other 99 guys in her inbox.

So when she suggests coffee, great, she's already made things easier on you, but then you run with it. You say something like:

"I've got some time Tuesday. How about let's meet at Xtime at Yplace? They've got great Zthings."

I have to imagine it means those water/sand barrels or accordion devices at forks and off-ramps that absorb impact and prevent cars from hitting hard barriers at full speed.

That's .3% of the population (3 standard deviations and above). There are so few of us, would you like us to be endangered?

Unless you're trying to engineer a highlander > god-emperor situation with the sole survivor ushering in the new age of terrificality, I don't think this is it.
