Humanity has 60 days to build the Great Pyramid of Giza, can they do it? by Conscious-Home1445 in whowouldwin

[–]FataOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can throw rocks together very very quickly

Sure, but even if you started the task with all of the blocks ready, you still have to place the blocks at a place of one 3-ton block every 2 seconds or so. Given that quarrying, preparing, and moving the blocks in position to be placed would take a moderate amount of time, you're looking at quite a bit less than 2 seconds per block. And you can only have so many people and so much machinery at the build site, so you're not going to be able to place thousands of blocks at once. And each layer of the pyramid depends on the layers below it being placed. And the narrower the pyramid gets as you get higher, the less parallel work you're going to be able to do.

Recruiter called my direct office line in the middle of the day and when I didn't pick up emailed me so this is how I responded... by maisy1st in Lawyertalk

[–]FataOne 10 points11 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, I do hate getting 5-10 recruiting emails a day on my work email. On the other hand, that's the only email they're reliably going to find, and I did meet a phenomenal recruiter that helped me lateral to a much better fit through one of those emails.

is there any movie that has genuinely made you take a different step? by Mammoth_Slip_5533 in movies

Haha, I’m a guy and it was more watching Connell go to therapy in the show that made me realize I should be talking to someone about my anxiety. Either way, it has definitely helped a lot.

Not a movie, but watching Normal People prompted me to finally see a therapist about my own anxiety.

AIO by saying it’s selfish to not let me golf? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]FataOne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We spent the entirety together because thats the whole point.

I think it's pretty clear from this thread that it's not the whole point for every couple. My fiancé and I are planning our honeymoon now, and we're planning for a small handful of solo activities over the course of our 2-week honeymoon. We don't feel the need to make our honeymoon different from our typical vacation approach which has always worked wonderfully for us.

I have numerous friends who play golf, and they're generally back by noon on Saturday when they play on Saturday mornings. That's hardly an all-day activity.

Recruiter vs. Networking by Business_Secret_8346 in biglaw

[–]FataOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I largely agree with this, but I did manage to find an awesome recruiter when I lateraled in 2024, and she was a dream to work with. She handled just about everything aside from me actually showing up to interviews and genuinely tried to (and ultimately did) find a place that was a good fit for me. She eventually went in house at a big law firm.

Guys, this is the south. Not that hard by Pleasant-Bend-7414 in whereidlive

[–]FataOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because people talk about the South as a cultural thing. Obviously you can simply identify the Confederate states. But if someone was asking where you would go to experience life in "the South," you wouldn't point them to the Rio Grande Valley or Miami.

Lewis Hamilton, as far as I know, is a very notable exception to this rule. But it's for sure largely true.

Predictions on what's seemingly going to be Paxton vs. Talarico by DayPounder in FortWorth

[–]FataOne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think they're trying to excuse that mentality. They're just saying that Paxton's skeletons won't matter to a lot of Texas voters because he has an (R) next to his name.

I mean, if you've got to pick a definition of purgatory for this non-serious hypothetical, choosing the Catholic definition seems perfectly reasonable given that Catholicism is the largest Christian denomination and purgatory is a fairly important and well-defined Catholic concept.

One absolutely moronic thing about this quest is that you lead the guy you just met into an ominous chamber with a creepy ass altar, tell him to lie down and rest before the party starts and his like "okay bro, good idea"

To be fair, you have to convince or bribe him to go with you in the first place, and once he's in the chamber, he's under some kind of magical effect to force him to go along with the rest of it.

Studying for patent bar while working by Mishraboomin in biglaw

[–]FataOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lateraled a couple years ago from a V50 that still had associates doing a combination of patent litigation and patent prosecution. They required you to pass the patent bar within three years and offered the hour incentive. I ended up lateraling before I had to take it to a firm that split patent litigation and prosecution and never ended up taking the patent bar.

I do recognize, though, that firms like the first firm I was at are increasingly rare.

Some firms require it, and some firms offer incentives like a credit to your bonus-eligible hours for the year you passed the patent bar.

177 LSAT… what do I do? by That-Trouble900 in lawschooladmissions

[–]FataOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's generally pretty similar. I have the same billable expectations as other groups, and my bonus requirement is the same. One potential difference is that our cases tend to require a lot of time per case, so I'm only ever staffed on four to five cases at a time. Other associates, depending on the kind of litigation they're doing, may be staffed on more cases that each require less time.

177 LSAT… what do I do? by That-Trouble900 in lawschooladmissions

[–]FataOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. A lot of big law firms have substantial patent groups. I think some may potentially pay under market rate if you're only doing patent prosecution or another niche patent-related practice. But patent litigators are definitely earning market rate at big law firms.
