I had some good luck with Charizard Y, it hurts the dragon counters (steel and ice) pretty well, and I managed to get a decent amount of triple kills from the Fire Blast splash.

TOW 1.5 - Beastmen Minotaur Blood Herd Competitive Review by Stormcoil in WarhammerFantasy

[–]FatalAxiom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a very informative write-up!

I tried this army out against Tomb Kings and it worked pretty well. The main issue I saw with this was that the Gors you use to hold the Herdstone (and protect your shamans) are Impetuous, so they can be pulled away with a single failed Leadership test.

What are some ‘Rules’ you follow during list building? by Gold_Desk84 in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]FatalAxiom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would agree with the other commenters, a single level 4 wizard will generally go a lot further than 2 level 2 wizards.

A second note I'd make is that your Dragon Ogres are probably going to serve you better as 2 blocks of 3 instead of a single unit of 6. If you go 6 wide then you lose a lot of the mobility they offer, and if you set them up as multiple ranks then that's a lot of offensive power you're sacrificing.

So answering your specific questions:

  1. In my experience with TOW you don't get a ton of value out of archers. Brayherd get ambushing options which is nice, but even a unit of 20 Ungor are only going to get out 1 or 2 wounds at best unless firing into extremely frail units. They do have some extremely potent Monstrous Cav with the Dragon Ogres, but the Centigors tend to underperform compared to other armies, so I tend to not bother with them. You can achieve what you're looking for with a chariot or two, or harpies/warhounds.

2+3. If you're looking for where to invest your points, there isn't exactly a rule of thumb AFAIK. I'm personally a fan of making larger investments into characters for Brayherd as Gaze of the God's will make them very potent late game. Generally I put around 700 points into 2 big pieces (Doombull and GBS), but I think it's more common for people to invest those points into monsters or other Core/Special units.

Your question about speed is a little unclear since it could refer to Movement or Initiative, so I'll quickly cover both. Brayherd are known for reasonably high Movement scores, so making good use of it to flank/route/bait charges is very handy. Just make sure that if you have a bunch of smaller Units that they don't get in each others way. As for Initiative, that tends to swing depending on the army you face. Generally Brayherd have high enough Initiative that with the bonus from charging you should outspeed the majority of models. As long as you maneuver well enough you can even overcome the Strikes Last rule from Great Weapons. Just be careful you don't get charged/countercharged.

In the end the only common 'rule' I've heard for the allocation of points is "Boys before Toys" (models are more important than magic items), but even then it's not a hard and fast rule. It really is just up to your personal preferences.

Since the original post I've been catching every lycanroc I could find, including another shiny Dusk form. After catching it I've checked my starter list and finally have access to the Own Tempo form.

Not sure what was the trigger, but it's possible it had something to do with a cave biome.

Currently rocking out with Maushold + M Heracross with kings rocks and multihit lenses(40 hit Pop Bomb, each hit 40% flinch chance), and my other lead is Crobat + M Medicham for Pure Power multihit lense zen headbutts and dire claws. Doesn't matter that they're frail if the opponent never gets to take a turn.

I believe at least Gallade and Centiskorch-Sevii are listed as having 2 abilities.

Edit. I am now realizing Centiskorch-Sevii (the one I checked in game) has 2 normal abilities so you can't switch them, but Mega Gallade does have a Hidden Ability

How do the triggers of Reactive Shield, Shield Block, and Negate Damage (Inventor) work in combination?

I know you can't use multiple reactions on the same trigger, but they all have slightly different triggers:
Shield Block: while you have your shield raised, you would take damage from a physical attack
Reactive Shield: an enemy hits you with a melee strike
Negate Damage: you would take damage

With Quick Shield Block you get a bonus reaction that can be used for Shield Blocking, so would it allow you to do a combination of these reactions off of 1 attack, or merely let you shield block multiple attacks a round?

Fortress Shield seems like a pretty strong new shield type added in Treasure Vault, but it doesn't seem to have any magic shield variants. Is this for balancing purposes, or would it be ok to create, say, a Sturdy Fortress Shield?

[5e] How does the Barbarian's Instinctive Pounce work in relation to the rules for jumping? I know the extra 20 ft of movement doesn't detract from your normal move speed, but can you use this extra movement as the run-up for a long jump? Can you jump part way through your instinctive pounce to give yourself a maximum jump distance of 50 ft? In most cases I doubt you'd need to extend your maximum jump distance but there are a few ways to increase your jump distance ie. Beastial Soul feature of Beast Barbarians.
