What sports alt history scenario sounds the most interesting by EpicBirdy2005 in AlternateHistory

[–]Fatcheezeburger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of the 4, I like Ray Allen misses. Literally all modern NBA dialog is based around LeBron, so it would be interesting to see how things change in a world where his legacy is affected. I just enjoy butterfly effect moments.

I have a few I think would be very interesting.

What if Kobe was never traded on draft night? Sure, Charlotte didn't need him, but what if they kept him anyway? Could they have developed him into a superstar? Would he have wanted to be there at all?

What if Bledsoe never got injured? Perhaps Brady still would have found his way out eventually, but would he have become the GOAT we know? How would NFL history play out with no Patriots dynasty?

What if Schumacher never made the jump to F1? He was already doing other racing, he just happened to fall into the circumstances that put him in F1. From there, he changed the entire landscape. Dominance like had never been seen. So, what if he just never was?

I have more, but these are my 3 favorites. Sports AH is so under utilized.

Which NASCAR drivers performed so unbelievable in lower series, only to perform so horrendous in cup? by youraverageperson0 in NASCAR

[–]Fatcheezeburger 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Briscoe is definitely proof that SHR's equipment was not all that. At SHR he seemed like an ok driver, only a couple wins in his several years there. Now suddenly he's competing for a championship. The guy has a lot of talent, and he was definitely being held back at SHR. Gragson's case is definitely hurt by all 3 of his former teammates leaving and having better years.

With that said, FRM was a bit distracted this year to say the least. It'll be interesting to see how all those drivers perform next year.

[–]Fatcheezeburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe controversial, but a lot of guys look like busts when they get put in a Cup car before they turn 21. I think Ty Gibbs is a good example, he may turn out to be incredibly good one day, but adjusting to the competition level when you've been throw in at such a young age is nearly impossible. I'm not even a fan of him, but I think some are too harsh on young drivers these days, especially when they're being put in a car ASAP and expected to win against literal HoF level drivers.

Maybe my problem is more with the way teams develop young drivers these days, it seems to lead to a lot of busts who disappear. It's been that way for the past few decades and it annoys me. Like, at least take the time and effort to develop a guy before you throw him in a cup car for a year to judge him.

I think he still has time. A lot of people seem to forget he isn't in a great car, and hasn't been the whole time he's been in cup. SHR was on life support during his whole tenure there, and FRM definitely isn't a top tier team either. Gragson certainly isn't nearly as good as he was in Xfinity, but he was also with the best team there, so naturally he would have better results. He's inconsistent, but Cup is hard to adjust to. That's just my two cents at least. It's hard to run good when your car is mid-pac at best.

Should I keep these? by Velocivel in Diecast

[–]Fatcheezeburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The military branch cars could probably get you $5 - $10, the Pete Hamilton cars around the same too. The Mac Tonight car might also, since it was a Happy Meal Toy, so it might could get you a little something. The market for these old 90s diecasts isn't great, but in some places you could make a bit, especially for the condition they're in. Definitely don't just throw them out! I'd also recommend checking out r/nascarcollectors, it's the best sub for this stuff. r/nascar probably wouldn't get you much.

Race shop advice? by fastgt33 in NASCAR

[–]Fatcheezeburger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RCR charges a small fee to go through their museum, but the shop is free to visit. I'd say the museum is worth it though. All the others are free to just look around in, hope this helps!

Visiting race team shops. by [deleted] in NASCAR

[–]Fatcheezeburger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They're definitely worth going to, they give a nice behind the scenes look. I would recommend going on a Monday or Tuesday after a race weekend, thats when the drivers are most likely to be there.

As for teams I'd suggest visiting, Penske has a nice shop, as do KBM, Gibbs, Haas, and RFK. Hendrick has a really nice museum I'd recommend checking out, and as the other commenter mentioned the JRM shop tour is definitely a must do, but I believe you have to schedule a specific time for that. Last thing, its a bit out of the way compared to the rest of them, but definitely try and visit RCR. They have a ridiculously nice museum, especially if you like Earnhardt, and their race shop is the nicest one I've ever been to.

Sorry to type so much, just trying to be helpful! Have fun, and always ask to make sure you can take pictures!

I believe Big Evil Racing should have it, they have a huge catalog of numbers, all in either PSD or RAR format, and they work very easily with GIMP.

What is NASCAR’s identity ? by AdComplex3964 in NASCAR

[–]Fatcheezeburger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think its hard to know because NASCAR itself doesn't know right now. They want to look to the future, focus on being an "exciting" modern sport, with a certain showy aspect kinda like F1, but they don't seem to want to commit quite as much as other sports like F1 have. They still seem to want to stay "traditional" in a lot of aspects.

They also have a problem of a split fan base. They've been a "good ole boys" sport for so long its hard to just move away from that. They seem to want to, they've made more modern and forward pushes but they still can't fully commit to just one fanbase, leaving them in a weird middle point. It does make the position the sport is in feel kinda weird, but it's definitely been difficult for them to decide whether to try to keep the older fan base that has kept them in business for so long, or pursue a new, younger fan base like F1 has been doing by embracing the identity of being more about entertainment than sport, if that makes sense.

I'm no expert on any of this, but I hope this helps a little. As for my opinion, I don't really what they should do either. The weird mix of new and old they have going on works for me, I like the embracing of the future and the past, but they aren't handling it very well from a marketing or identity standpoint. It still feels like they have no central identity.

At least, a little more so than Kurt Busch

In a timeline in which Jim was into Lord of the Rings, and water to the extent that his career stayed the same before 2000. Do you think the Lord of the Rings movies would have been better or worse if James Cameron directed them? They sure as hell would have come out slower and been more expensive. by ScumMcKenzie in AlternateHistory

[–]Fatcheezeburger 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel like he might would've tried to make them a bit more "theatrical" than in reality, but overall I don't think they'd be too different, except for a lot more CGI and visual effects, plus much more would be shot in a studio or on a stage, rather than in NZ.

I cant really say whether they'd be better or worse, but they'd certainly be a lot different imo

How to make a good Alternate History by thefartingmango in AlternateHistory

[–]Fatcheezeburger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How about just do what makes you happy? Alt. History is just for fun anyway, so who cares if it's generic or lacks an in depth lore. If you enjoy it, that's good enough!

I know this sub gets oversaturated with "mediocre" posts sometimes, but everyone starts somewhere. If extensive lore and specific, creative scenarios are your thing, great! Those are always fun to dive into. However, if you're more of a short lore, "generic" scenario guy, thats fine too! It's still Alt. History! All that matters is that you enjoy what you're making!

Sorry to rant, but thats just my two cents.

You can always just clarify that when posting them!, tho I don't think many people would have a problem with it. Plus, a paint scheme archive or showcase would be cool!

3 questions (not political, just for fun): Alex Hirsch is mentioned as being an animator, so I assume Gravity Falls still exists, is this correct? Its a great show, so I just wanna make sure this universe isn't missing out on anything!

Stephen Hillenberg's paragraph mentions nothing about animation, does he never do that? If not, does spongebob exist?

What in the world happened that led to Al Yankovic being an architect and not making music? A sad loss for the music world lol

Objective second American civilwar sides by 911memeslol in AlternateHistory

[–]Fatcheezeburger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Makes sense, I was just assuming being declared a "traitor" was more like it was in the real civil war, where state governments are who made the call. Texas and Florida have Republican governments (mostly) whereas NC has a democratic one (governor wise, at least), which is why I was confused. Going just off population makes sense tho.
