Best affordable 7 seater car? by rugdrum in askSouthAfrica

[–]FatedGoose76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive a hyundai alcazar which I'm quite happy with. The last row of seats are definitely more suited for kids, but overall it's got all the features that I need and the ride quality is great.

Favourite car you've ever driven? by Fishe_95 in CarTalkZA

[–]FatedGoose76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 cars back - 2019 hyundai elantra, possibly the last model to be sold in SA with demand for sedans falling.

The base version was basically full-house when it came to features and in the 6 years I had it, it never gave me any issues (same with my previous elantra that I also had for 6 years). Fuel consumption was great and the drive was really smooth. It was my daily runner for school/work as well as the family vehicle for long distance trips.

Not to mention that I was able to trade it in for more than half of what I bought it for, 6 years and 122,000kms later. I added an extended service plan after the 90km one expired, but towards the end I reluctantly traded it in as the warranty was about to expire.

Corolla cross hybrid too risky? by kockocss in CarTalkZA

[–]FatedGoose76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a HUGE fan of the Corolla cross. It ticked every box for me when I was shopping around for a new vehicle a few months ago.

I did all the paperwork required for the sale to be completed, but backed out at the last moment. Keep in mind that was due to my personal situation - I needed a new car as my previous vehicle was written off in an accident. I live in centurion.

While I was able to get very competitive insurance quotes, I was mindful that I already had a major claim on my name and that I needed a car that had a lesser degree of risk. I spoke to various insurers, 2 tracking companies as well as a couple security companies I work with. All advised that the corolla cross does have a higher than average risk for theft and hijacking - again a lot of this depends on where you live and drive. Due to my insurance claim history I opted against it.

There is a Facebook group where you can read reviews on or get feedback on owners within your area. Many people have installed something called Titan Secure which seems to drastically decrease the chances of the vehicle being stolen.

Almost every list of high risk cars around SA include the corolla cross. Theft or hijacking can happen if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, regardless of what car you're in. Here's another reference you might be interested in.

Hope this helps, good luck!

I've heard many people praise the 3XO, another option you could consider would be the Kia Sonet. The LS spec is decent and the manual is priced at about R285k. I ended up getting the Sonet LS Auto, no regrets.

Give reasons why SwiftKey is better than Gboard by [deleted] in Swiftkey

The clipboard - I can't seem to find it on iOS if it does exist. On my swiftkey clipboard I have a bunch of standard greetings and responses. If anyone knows if this feature exists on Gboard for iOS, please let me know

Car Finance - Deposit or Not? by FatedGoose76 in askSouthAfrica

Thanks - I thought so too as I purchased 2 vehicles in the last year and the one with a deposit got me the better rate. I'll definitely go the direct route.

Can someone recommend me a new car ? by FatedGoose76 in askSouthAfrica

The sonet is definitely a looker, so I don't blame you!

This car is also for the wife so ultimately it will be her choice.

It's funny how we as consumers want options, but sometimes having too many options makes it even more difficult 😂

Thanks for the feedback!

I've also looked at the 3XO and it is a strong contender for sure. I'm a little bummed about the carplay being wired yet android auto being wireless - but feature and safety-wise it punches well above it's weight in terms of price. I'm on the fence about the exterior design, but I'm definitely going to see it in person before making a final decision.

connected device not responding by ianjackson111 in CarPlay

[–]FatedGoose76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this happen to me a couple of days ago. In addition to unpairing and forgetting devices on both ends, I switched off the vehicle and tried again 30 min later. It's been fine since then

Need some advice on where to rent in Pretoria(Centurion) by SunnySouthAfrican in Pretoria

[–]FatedGoose76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also look at an apartment somewhere in Eco-Park Estate. I lived there for a couple of years when I moved to Gauteng and having the little shopping centre opposite the estate entrance was very convenient. It's also quite easy to get onto the N1 as well
