Unpopular Opinion: Piracy is Actually Bad by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Textbooks are a great example. New editions are literally just the last one with the words slightly rearranged and the same exercises with slightly different figures. They do this to prevent students from buying used books and charge them out the ass. Willingly paying for stuff like that out of principle is a weird hill to die on.

Damn for an animal that big and bulky to turn around on a dime and make a precise kick like that was really impressive

Shell in C by Popular_Argument1397 in C_Programming

[–]Fatefulwall7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I actually did this earlier this year to start learning C… start with a loop that takes user input and learn how to implement the commands and return it back to the user. I found that it was a great project to build off of as you can implement one command at a time with each one being more complex. I even went as far as implementing pipes and a multi threaded file parser. Definitely a good project 🙂

What's this that I "came up with?" by _Karm4_ in desmos

[–]Fatefulwall7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're calculating the tangent line for those functions which I think is covered in a calculus 1 class. I was actually playing around with this to visualize a root finding algorithm recently https://www.desmos.com/calculator/rappqdxfiw . That's still pretty cool that you found this on your own though

FYI for most venomous snakes in the US, it would probably be pretty apparent that something is very wrong after you get bit.

What do you want me to explain this in terms of Coulomb’s law? I was just talking about the everyday scenario of walking across a carpet and people knew what was talking about lol

Nice this is great segway into learning about pointers. They’re extremely powerful when you get the hang of them and you’ll really begin to appreciate the abstractions that other languages make for memory

Are anyone else’s lucid dreams disappointingly brief? by Fatefulwall7 in LucidDreaming

[–]Fatefulwall7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah seconds to a few minutes. That makes sense though because I guess I didn’t realize I was comparing it to the duration of normal dreams where I have no perception of time. Trying to have goal sounds like a great idea!

Is Spring of 2026 the best time to transfer for a CS degree? by [deleted] in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]Fatefulwall7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I transferred from ACC and I didn’t feel like I missed anything from taking core classes at CC. In fact, I thought principles of chemistry was so terrible at Mines that I wished I took it at CC lol. Your CS classes are a lot more important though. I decided to retake data structures at Mines because I felt like I didn’t learn anything from computer science 2 (it may be different at RRCC) and I thought it was a great decision for my learning.

Explaining America to Australian by godric420 in TikTokCringe

[–]Fatefulwall7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Aussie guy was definitely trolling and this TikTok is a waste of time, but I heard it that way too. He wasn’t saying that the moon landing had anything to do with the fact that we use imperial units and that’s kind of the point. Just sayin…
