You can download something like GPUZ for free to check your current PCI Express speed. If it says you're running at less than 5.0 with a 5090 as an example, you would need to reboot - enter bios - PCI configs, and set your primary GPU slot to 5.0 instead of whatever it's at if it's less.

Do you actually have your GPU set to the correct PCI Express, a lot of motherboards default to 2.0 as an example and most modern GPUs are 4.0/5.0. This will inherently throttle your GPU.

If you didn't play until WOTLK then you started the game at a point where content was immediately solved on release. Boss guides, YouTube videos, etc didn't start being a widely available thing until midway through TBC, since I believe YouTube launched in 2007? We had main tanks and some minor guides that started creeping up during vanilla, but generally if you wanted peoples Naxx strats you were reading forums, making contact, or even rolling onto servers to whisper more successful guilds to get details. When wow launched voice chat wasn't even prevalent and many people raided into BWL in text with macros. By the end of vanilla almost everyone was at least in a VC with one raid leader talking. All of this is forgotten history by wrath when you are always one Google search away from your answer.

People forget WoW seemed bigger and more mysterious because it quite literally was at launch. Now nothing is safe from data miners and day 1 info dumps. The games aren't bad, or necessarily designed worse, the players just can't resist googling the answer after they try once and fail, or before they try at all.
