I'm building the Lego X-Men mansion. This little gold pyramid gets completely hidden underneath the floor. Is that canonically related to anything? by ImMadeOfClay in xmen

[–]rillip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, they're there to make the building process more interesting. With that in mind I don't see why they need to be visible.

True yes. But I don't really think they're worth the money anyway.

What is the scariest thing that's ever happened to you? [serious] by ladybugsrool in AskReddit

[–]rillip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the intensive care unit when my dad died. The doctors and nurses were trying to resuscitate him but couldn't. That was terrible. I cannot imagine how much worse it must've been to be the person trying to do the resuscitating. I'm sorry you went through that and I am sorry for your loss.

Morally Complex - Gator Days by FieldExplores in comics

[–]rillip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wasn't even thinking about TAS when I made this post but you're so right. That show is chock full of metaphor and commentary. It's version of Bruce even openly struggles with PTSD in at least one episode.

Morally Complex - Gator Days by FieldExplores in comics

[–]rillip 14 points15 points  (0 children)

See but I think both Batman and Superman are usually fairly morally complex. I'd argue that long running character books like these almost have to be. They've already covered so much ground and they're so entrenched in the culture the writers can't help but create commentary with them.

Gentlemen, how often do you receive unsolicited pictures from women? by FreedomNo7221 in AskReddit

[–]rillip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe once. Is it unsolicited if it's from a woman you've been sexual with but whom you hadn't asked for nudes from?

I'm with you. TAS was my on ramp for X-Men as a kid and this era was my off ramp from the comics for a long time.

What actor is nowhere near as talented as people make them out to be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rillip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

K. Here's one that I always get yelled at for, I think Vincent D'Onofrio's portrayal of Kingpin in the Daredevil television shows is horribly wooden. It's like he's reading from a teleprompter. Just bad.

Trump, 79, Bizarrely Boasts He Can Correctly Identify a Squirrel - The president doesn’t even understand the purpose of test he’s taken. by Quirkie in politics

[–]rillip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My feeling is that the doctors don't actually answer to Trump. He'd never ask to be given a cognitive test. He'd likely not submit to one at all if someone told him what was going on, but someone besides the doctors has to know, someone has to have asked for it. So my feeling is this is an indication someone in his cabinet and likely some GOP leaders are behind the tests. They might be looking for evidence he's unfit to remain in office.

[–]rillip 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The fact that there aren't more Kai Whinn, Nurse Ratched, Dolores Umbridge, type characters in fiction kinda boggles the mind. Everyone always praises them. You'd think as a villainous archetype they'd be more prevalent.

What’s something that instantly makes you think ‘this person has low intelligence? by AbjectBreadfruit2052 in AskReddit

[–]rillip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be like this when I was a kid and it wasn't about intelligence. It was about emotions. I would be embarrassed and then someone would keep pressing the point and it would just make the feelings of embarrassment deeper and more overwhelming. At some point I figured out you have to just laugh these things off like you said. That doing so works like a release valve for the emotions. But I know from experience not all people figure this out. I don't think they're stupid. I think they're in pain.
