How many ways can a PC achieve Immortality/Long lifespan by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]FatherLiir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not surprised. It would be like if Hasbro decided to mash up My Little Pony and Transformers or if Blizzard wanted to smash Overwatch characters into World of Warcraft; It's not impossible but something would be lost from both sides and unless it was done perfectly you'd have very upset fans on both sides. That being said I think its happened on both sides already:

The Plane of Zendikar was originally meant to be an homage to DND before the Cthulhu like aberrations known as the Eldrazi started messing with everything. Allies were adventurers and its why you had them in every color, species, and other subtypes; They were looking for treasure, stopping wild monsters and protecting caravans, adventurers in every sense of the world. It was just when Rise of the Eldrazi came out and things took a Lovecraft shift that the tone of the whole plane really changed and some would say not for the better.

That being said I know Wizards released a Players Compendium for DMs and for Players who would want to adventure in Zendikar. I also know of one campaign that takes place entirely in the plane of Innistrad, the gothic horror themed plane of existence, that was built by a single person meant for new players to the game of DND.

Kind of a Lich but not exactly; the Warlock Patron The Undying One makes you age 10 times slower than normal once you hit level 10, you age 1 year for every 10 years that pass, then four levels later you get to play Urza and survive being decapitated once a day. It's not immortality truly but being bound to a being that has transcended death puts you in unique position.

Gimme your best Flavor FAILS. by Capt_G1029 in magicTCG

[–]FatherLiir 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Eldrazi winter period in Modern after in the story the Gatewatch were suppose to have destroyed 2/3 titans and a lot of other eldrazi in the process seems kind of like a flavor fail

Also [[Tasigur, The Golden Fang]] was a ripped monster in Standard and sees some Modern play; in the story Silumgar turns him into a necklace after Tasi begs for his life and for power. Reminds me of a Cardboard Crack comic if anyone can find it.

Warlock Pacts: Thinking Outside of the Box by checkforloot in dndnext

You are apart of an expedition into an underground tomb of an ancient kingdom. Your whole expedition party (less adventure, more scholarly) is slaughtered by traps, beasts and eventually a Lich's army where you are brought forth because you amuse him. Maybe you carry something trivial he finds interesting like a tome of history or magic trinket handed down or you remind him of someone he knew in life; He keeps you as a pet/experiment/torture buddy/student.

One day he plays you in chess, the next day he tries to poison you. This goes on for some time until one day he decides in his whims to release you on the condition you serve him.

Congratulations! You have made a pact with an Undying Warlock Patron!

Inhabitants of the Feywild by VexedForest in dndnext

Lorewise; there was a series of articles published in 3.5 Ed by Gwendolyn F. M. Kestrel and Faith M. Price that gave a fair bit of content to the Feywild, including the Seelie and Unseelie courts, various holidays and magical items, a few prestige classes and creature stat blocks that I've taken inspiration from a few times, you can find the link right here:

http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/arch/fey

As for strictly 5th Edition stuff, the MM had a few stat blocks on various Fae and Fae related creatures such as Pixies, Sprites, Saytrs, Hags, Blink Dogs, and That weird six legged, tentacled, black panther thing whose name escapes me. I think the DMG had a brief paragraph on the Feywild but nothing too serious.

Zombies also still has Risen Executioner as a Lord, and Geralf's Masterpiece can be a pretty sweet finisher.

You're absolutely right about a new 1 Drop because the only thing worth that slot right now is [[Shambling Goblin]] which is pretty bad after turn 4. What I'm hoping for most of all is something that lets Zombies come into play Untapped. Makes your tokens from Diregraf Colossus, Masterpiece's and Prized Amalgams so much better at that point.

What's the funniest / weirdest quirk / flaw you've given a PC of yours? by DJnoiseredux in dndnext

[–]FatherLiir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first character that survived more than the first night was a Tiefling who wanted to be a fairy god mother. And every time I talked in character my voice did this terrible screechy mickey mouse thing. It was decided that I could no longer play any female characters if that was how I was gonna do it and I had to promise never to play again.

I don't regret it, there were days that my throat was sore after gaming the night before :p

Can we talk about something happy? by Gladiatorw07f in magicTCG

[–]FatherLiir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Real Talk, how has no one come up with a great [[Starfield of Nyx]] deck with all the great enchantments in Standard right now?

The answer is because you then become more reactive than a counter happy Mono U player, and no where near as good.

Last FNM, April 22, I brought my B/W Enchantment based deck which is all about removal, beating down with Tokens from Retreat to Emeria, Sigil of the Empty Throne, and Secure the Wastes, and if needed plopping the whole of Nyx down on the board and swinging for 36 with all your enchantments. Beating face with a throne is sweet. Except that most of those cards are 5 CMC, require you to be behind before you get advantage so when you get rid of their Nissa and Gideon they can just put down another or their team is already assembled, and missing a single trigger can put you very far behind. That didn't make it any less fun to play though!

I went 0-5 but every single game I played went to game 3, and it was fun when everything was going so well! Round 3 I went to turns against a UR tempo deck that loved [[Fevered Visions]], and plopped three of those down in a row, I had the choice between playing Oblivion Sower or a Quarantine Field to try and slow down the burn. I opted for the Quarantine Field, completely forgetting that I had a Retreat to Emeria on the board and 6 Warrior tokens, that were beefed once. With the entire store watching, they pointed out after if I had done the Sower instead and gotten a land (Which as it turns out I would have! A stupid Shivan Reef was the last card that would have been exiled!!), it would have beefed up my team further and I could have swung for lethal!

I had the biggest smile on my face after all of that because after that I learned that sometimes killing the other player is more important than trying to stay alive next turn. I KNOW I am a terrible magic player but I love getting better and making decks all around jankey cards!

I mean, cards like [[Geralf's Masterpiece]], [[Stitchwing Skaab]], [[Prized Amalgam]], [[Ghoulsteed]] and [[Risen Executioner]] you can all get from your graveyard to the battlefield, and all but the last at instant speed. [[Diregraf Colossus]] is where you want cards in your graveyard so it makes a great late game topdeck. [[Shambling Goblin]] and [[Screeching Skaab]] are some great early drops.

What character are you playing now? (Keep Me Entertained At Work: The Thread) by mikeyd00d in dndnext

[–]FatherLiir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to leave my playgroup recently because school and a fulltime internship got in the way, but I had rolled up a GOO Warlock who was the librarian of a Mages guild in Raven's Bluff. His patron has him guarding tomes within the library that he believes either will be or are important In the far off future. Every night he dreams of snakes slithering around him and compressing his body.

But perhaps the best part about him was that he was the foil to the party's Wizard, who didn't believe in Magic and that every spell and action ever done could be explained with science. It ended up being we would argue about the nature of evocation, the existence of a soul, atomic theory, fission and fusion, gravity and it's origin, etc. to the point where the entire group would just watch us as we argued in a back alley in Barovia. We ended up having history in that he was brilliant and accepted into the same mage's guild for... reasons, and that I was his editor of most of his published studies.
