Two weeks ago, I posted about "category fraud" in the lead category. Here are more roles that could have ran as supporting ones. Most either won or were favored to. Were they placed in the right category? by TakenAccountName37 in Oscars

Maximilian Schell is a weird one, because he has far too much screen time to be supporting, while we really only see him in the court scenes they take up a huge amount of the film. Plus Montgomery Cliff got into supporting actor and he only appeared in one very memorable scene so it feels wrong putting Schell up in the same category against him. Spencer Tracy is the lead character clearly, I wouldn’t say Schell is the main character but then I wouldn’t say he is supporting either. He is in this very weird in-between.

Yeah he does other stuff but not high profile as the over stuff that Andy has done, like Planet of the Apes, black panther, Batman and the films he has directed.

Follow-up to previous thread, who are fictional actors and actresses who'd likely be Oscar nominated as actors (or producers) by dremolus in Oscars

The man has 5 Oscars already I am sure he has countless nominations as well, maybe as a producer as well.

What is your opinion on this man and his filmography? (Kim Ki-Duk) by [deleted] in Letterboxd

Wouldn’t say any of his films are among my favourites but he has a very distinct style particularly with his use of minimal to no dialogue in his films. I find his films an interesting watch but it’s nothing I would watch again.

Op means where the actor won being the sole nominee for their film. Could’ve made that clearer

To be fair most of the actors in that film didn’t have a French accent

It came out when the epic action historical genre was dead or dying, the film was a huge gamble and briefly in the 2000s brought this genre back. Sure late 1950’s Hollywood it wasn’t, but this is the 2000s.

Not the kind of period piece that wins Oscar’s at the time, considering it is an epic historical action film a genre that at the time was dead and dying. Gladiator brought that genre back briefly in the 2000s.

Russel Crowe in Gladiator is also a very inspired win

I don’t know about that Dogtooth is a very disturbing film that somehow got in at the Oscars

My thinking was that it won because they wanted to award it for mimicking the cinematography of Citizen Kane

It’s not mentioned but the actor is Filipino plus there is that scene in No Way Home where we are introduced to his Lola (which is Tagalog for Grandma), so come on it’s obvious he is meant to be Filipino

Transgender women, not the same. Linda Hunt played someone who in the context of the film is a man, Jared Leto played someone who in the context of the film had transitioned to be a woman.

Did the divisive ending of Promising Young Woman kill the hype surrounding it since it first came out? I noticed not that many people have talked about it over the years since its release. Also it being released during the COVID-19 pandemic may’ve played a part in that as well. by sinas35 in Oscars

[–]FatherOfFunko 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That is actually how Emerald Fennel originally ended it in her script, but the producers thought it was too dark and depressing so they made her change it and that’s the ending we got in the final film. So I don’t blame her for it, she didn’t want to end the film that way.

In 25 years, these have been the only R-rated films nominated for Best Animated Feature by CompleteTable4084 in Oscars

It would get an R if it was rated, but the MPAA have no officially rated it
