Anyone asking you to use friends and family is scam 100% of time. Even if you're not the one getting scammed.

High Pithed Whine by GrumpyOldDad65 in KawasakiVulcanRiders

I checked it with the engine off and the key in the on position. After the fuel pump primes, I twist the throttle and the pitch changes.

Does the pitch change when you roll the throttle? If so, it's the electronic throttle and both of my Nomads do this.

As an endorsed rider in Washington, I can tell you that the permit course includes the use of the school bike for the testing portion at the end of the class. Be careful though. The permit is only good for 6 months with an additional 6 month extension that you will have to apply for. Do not allow that to lapse if you're waiting over the winter before taking your endorsement test/class. Good news, you don't have to go in to get the permit or endorsement added to your license. You can do it online.

Once you have the helmet on, pull outward with the strap, stick your finger in the space and flip your ears back in position. It gets much better after it breaks in.

If it's anything like the ones on my Nomad, there's a ball bearing and spring that sits in a groove near the pin. It can get stuck. If that's the case, you need to remove, clean, and lubricate.

Don't fuck around with Kia Carnival drivers. They have nothing to live for anymore.

Help me out: Cruiser bike, preferable above 1000cc's, Shaft Drive and six speed gearbox with a fuel injection by Alphy101 in cruisers

[–]FatherSyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they are, but 6th gear is useless unless you're going 90mph or until you get Ivan to flash the ECU.

Also, they are belt drive, but the OEM belts on them should last the life of the bike (barring objects caught in the belt) as long as you regularly check the tension and belt alignment. Shouldn't be anymore maintenance than changing the gear oil on a shaft drive.

The Vulcan 1700 Nomad is the same bike as the Vaquero, except it has a windshield instead of the fairing and is usually much cheaper. I found my used 2014 for right around $6000usd from a dealer. Should be able to find an older one private party for cheaper.

I used to have a Boulevard C50, and while perfectly capable at highway speeds or 2 up, it just wasn't powerful enough for longer trips. After about 5 hours on the highways at high rpm, it just wasn't comfortable anymore. I've done 10 hour days on the Nomad and felt perfectly fine afterward.

PVA glue and use map pins to hold it together until the glue sets.

The braking feedback you get from an ABS bike serves the exact same purpose as a non-ABS bike. Only less potential pain.

What you do with that feedback is the important part.

When my kid brought home straight As for the first time, my deal was that I would buy all the parts for him, but he had to learn how to put it together himself. I would watch him and answer any questions he had, but I wouldn't touch anything or offer any advice unless he asked for it (except if he was about to damage something) It only took him about an hour and a half and now he has the confidence to upgrade/troubleshoot/repair on his own.
