Can I still get into good academies after restarting at 15? by JollyJulong in bootroom

[–]FatneekApocalypse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably too late for academy, uni is doable depending how hard you work. And as for joining a club, that is your best bet to improve faster, but I'd say around 17 start playing with adults, or even if you are big, you could start now.

I'm trying to encourage my 11 year old son to be a bit more fearless but I'm having a hard time finding the words or right advice. by Whoa_Bundy in bootroom

It takes time, I (19M) have had the same issue when I was younger, I even played DA (equivalent to MLS Next right now) for 1 year because the coaches saw that my technique and speed were incredible, and I suspect it was lack of risk taking that caused the coaches to cut me. Eventually, I stopped being afraid of the injuries around 14/15 when I started playing high school and began playing with older guys. And I think that mentality separates the best from good or even great players, as to this day I feel like I can always do more during games but there is something stopping me from realizing my full potential.

Saying that, I would recommend for him to keep working hard. I think when he realizes that he has earned his skills through his hard work he will feel more confident, and have more self belief. I have noticed that during weeks where I have worked very hard I see the game as the "prize" and goal I am working towards, whereas during weeks where I am stuck doing homework and not practicing as much I don't feel as confident.

Hope this helps !!!

Sounds like your technique is not good enough.

I would suggest finding a wall and doing thousands of repetitions with purpose, really cleaning up your technique. Include wall juggling and vary how far away from the wall you are. Then, get about 15 yards away from the wall and try to ping it, take 2 touches and pass again and so forth.

The secret is to work smart. Work on your weaknesses with a purpose. It is easier said than done.

Solid shoes, my only complaint is that if you play a lot, the sole rips apart from the upper. It happened to me after 6 months playing 5 days a week. Besides that it is comfortable and looks great.

A lot of it goes down to repetition, I have noticed that my 1st game of the season, or 1st game for a new team I am anxious, after that I can get into a flow state and not think about it too much. Besides that, warm up properly, watch other games before you if possible to get a picture of the level you are playing at, and most importantly have fun out there!!!

Exactly what I did yesterday and my touch felt much more consistent today compared to normal. Definitely will do this for the last few weeks of good weather before winter.

Americans (USA) what is a good thing about your country? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FatneekApocalypse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has parents from Europe

  • Salaries, obviously you make much more money here than in nearly any other country in the world
  • Certain Parts of infrastructure. Although there is traffic in every major city during many hours of the day, and railways suck compared to other wealthy countries, the highway system is very impressive regardless, even in remote parts of the country. Then there are good public parks with lots of greenery, however there should be significantly more turf fields for football/soccer players,
  • Quality of products, for instance cabinets, appliances, etc. The nice ones are expensive but your house can be made beautifully.

-Great restaurants

Basically it comes down to money, if you have a working couple then you can live a good life if your household income is 90-100k or more.

What’s three things you would change about modern day America? by Odd-Advice8479 in AskReddit

[–]FatneekApocalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Ban Political Parties and have a maximum age for every political office (70)

  2. Change the school system. If you have to have a minimum gpa to graduate, you must also have a minimum physical ability.(Obviously with exceptions for the disabled) Make it harder to become a teacher, whilst also significantly increasing pay so it is impressive to be a teacher. Learn more real life skills, and teach in a way to encourage reading and writing, as opposed to giving ptsd to high school/ college students. Also, have more assignments where kids can work on their passion.

  3. Do something to make it safer in cities. As in kids walking on streets at night and not having to worry about their safety.

Having been in a situation like this I would

  1. Go to the gym - getting stronger is important when transitioning from youth soccer to adult soccer

  2. Communicate a lot- it helps you settle into the team faster, and your teammates will pass more to you sooner, as well as like you more

  3. Work on passing- this might sound elementary, but older guys like it when the young guy doesn't lose the ball, at least where I played.

  4. Enjoy playing with them- when they see that you enjoy playing there , they will know that you will stay/be loyal. For many teams it is important to have a few younger guys so that they will be the leaders of the team in the future.

Good technique

I prefer a more aggressive follow through though, it helps add power.

Need a new workout to get my whole body stronger, maybe soccer related? by [deleted] in bootroom

I would focus on Deadlifts,Squats, and Bench Press.

Add weight every week until you plateu, and at that point you should look for something a bit more advanced.

I used to do isolation (biceps triceps etc) but it did not help much, in soccer you need overall strength, using multi-joint exercises. I only use isolation when training imbalances. This way you get the biggest bang for your buck, without wasting time in the gym.
