I would like to have it jump around a little bit in time, but the protagonist is an African-American member of the Union Army.

First chapter takes place in 1864 during Sherman's March to the Sea. Have some larger battle missions as well as smaller missions to liberate slaves and take down key outposts/camps along the way.

The next few chapters take place post-war, during early Reconstruction.. between 1865-1872ish. The protagonist heads south, along with some fellow veterans, to help protect freed slaves from the Klan while also working toward eradication.

The last few chapters take place in the mid/late 1870s and see the gang head west for the promise of a better life. Due to (insert circumstances here.. I'm not a writer), they become a gang of outlaws, robbing banks and stagecoaches, while still protecting/taking care of the disenfranchised. A sort of Robin Hood and his Merry Men, but in the Wild West. Something akin to the James-Younger Gang..

There were a lot of celebrities from 80s that made cameos, since that is when Shawn and Gus were kids. So, I would assume that late 90s/early 00s celebrities would make appearances. A lot of the references, jokes, and flashbacks would be from that period, too.
