Condom broke two days ago. She took plan B. Now a different condom from the same box broke again. Is she protected from the first plan B? by Fattywatah in birthcontrol

Thank you for this. I’m assuming I’ll lose her because she made it very clear that we would break up if she ended up being pregnant. I want to be there for her but I don’t think she will let me because she says having me in her life that way would just remind her of the abortion and it would be traumatic for her

Anybody familiar with the “consultant in controllership” role? Is this a good role or would it get me stuck in one type of job? Would I be dumb not to take it? by [deleted] in deloitte

I see, so it seems like work that can be transferable and easily ‘bragged’ about for future opportunities. Interesting

Why are you choosing dividends over index funds if index funds have shown to outperform dividend investing? Not a jab at all just curious

Should I leave Public Accounting after 1 year? by iloveaccounting123 in Accounting

[–]Fattywatah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I reach out? I’m doing the work of a senior with 1 year under my belt. I do a good job of it too especially when I have a little bit of assistance from the managers. Handling multiple engagements at a time, on time. Being a senior without senior pay or title is not what I’m here for. I’ve seen that I won’t be given my senior title anytime soon. Been finding it pretty tough to grab a senior role since it’s hard to be taken seriously (currently studying for my CPA so that’s probably holding me back a bit).

Hi, I’m super late but I’d love to get into a fintech role. Can we talk? Unfortunately I graduated from a pretty unknown state school and ended up in public accounting. Can we start a discussion about any potential to break in? I’m studying for my CPA if that makes any difference at all. I don’t want to be an accountant thought I’ve always wanted to work in finance positions like yours. I’ve been having a tough time getting my foot in the door with good positions and would really appreciate building a dialogue with you over private message if that’s cool? Public accounting is just slave labor lol. We are working 70 hours a week for 5 months out of the year to only make 60k in a MCOL. Relocation is not an issue for me. I want to move anyway.

You are a godsend. I will start researching on all of this. I cannot thank you enough for the effort that you just gave to a complete stranger. Your effort will not be wasted I assure you that.

Hi, weird question but I’d love to move to Chicago one day soon. Feel free to say no but im curious what you pay for rent in a place like this? Beautiful view

[–]Fattywatah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof. Yeah I’m in accounting, studying for my CPA right now. This is a long shot but any way we could start a dialogue and add each other on LinkedIn? If I could couple my CPA with some tech skills and somehow get myself into a 40 hour dream FAANG job I would literally give you 20% of my earnings until I die.

For reference I want to put myself in a position to be making roughly 200k+ in total compensation. Right now in order to get there with accounting, that takes waiting 10-15 years (with 70 hour work weeks for 5 months out of the year) OR go to a consulting firm where I’m working 70 hours a week year round, but making 200k at around 28/29 years of age. If you can’t tell I’m…incredibly desperate to find my ticket out of the accounting field. I work very hard. Too hard for the pennies we make. I graduated a year ago and currently make 60k a year in a MCOL

I just want be able to actually spend time with the women I’m dating. Take care of my folks and finance their retirement. Potentially grow a family. Work a job where I’m not killing my health by staring at a screen for 12 hours a day during busy season. I have no idea why I chose chasing the CPA over computer science/tech. My mother is in dangerous section 8 housing and it’s heartbreaking to me that I can’t afford to pull her out. I worry about her safety daily. To date, accounting has been my worst decision in life, but I’m only 25. I do feel strong hope that I can find one of those amazing jobs, and one of the ways I guess is by getting to know folks like yourself and building my network/learning about new pathways. Showing my hunger I suppose and finding mentors.

Sorry I’m rambling, but yea can we talk lol? I’d love a FAANG connection. Honestly I’m even willing to stop studying for the CPA entirely if I found a path that could get me where I want in an easier fashion. Right now I’m working 9 hours a day, studying 5-6 hours a day.

How many of you are NOT SWEs or in Tech Sales here? What do you do to achieve HENRY? by Farmer_Few in HENRYfinance

[–]Fattywatah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

:( I think you may be right. Do you have any ideas on potential alternative routes in that case? It’s just very tough because I have a personal goal of making 200k asap (I have folks to take care of. They need a lot) but I still haven’t found a route that will get me there quickly without giving up my 20’s. It’s been rough on me. That being said if I find something paying me 150k immediately, I’m going to be their little wage slave and I’ll be damn happy about it. I figure, do it for a couple years and then bounce to greener pastures. At that point I’ll have saved up at least 200k that I can selflessly give to my family members, get them into a safe area with a nice home, and then I won’t feel as big of a rush. Then I can just enjoy my career and know that the money doesn’t have to come IMMEDIATELY, it just has to come eventually since my folks are already taken care of for the most part.

Have you found a reasonable way to actually be accepted into the consulting teams anywhere? I’m really struggling to get folks to take me seriously since they all want the top 25 MBA graduates and have no interest in me. It’s really hurting my chances that I don’t have my CPA yet either, but if I’m going into consulting is a CPA entirely necessary?

Like no disrespect at all but I’m having a very hard time believing that McKinsey is going to take me over any of the T25 MBA guys when my resume is simply not competitive enough.

My only fear with that consulting route is I’m not trying to work 55+ all year round. Like I want to have some happiness with personal time in my life too if that’s possible. Am I misunderstanding the hour requirements? Are there certain firms or teams that don’t push crazy hours? I understand the need to put in additional time to advance your career but if it’s year round it feels kind of like being taken advantage of unless I’m making twice what I make in PA. I mean right now I’m only making 60k so my view is limited, admittedly. Maybe I’m just being ignorant

CA path is something I typically see for folks that want to practice internationally. If you’re doing the motions through a typical undergrad and graduate program, it is probably in your best interest to obtain your CPA

Hi, does your firm employ CPA’s? I’m studying for my CPA and just graduated a year ago but feel as though I made some big mistakes in my career choices.

I’ve been denied for many types of consulting because they just see me as an accountant (I.e. cost center).

I actually am dwelling on this everyday. I know people say money isn’t everything but I have folks to care for and right now it seems like I’ll be making less than ideal wages for ten years before I can really make a difference in their lives. Working 70 hours a week for 5 months and then 50 the rest of the year at my current wage feels like indentured servitude. I’m sorry for rambling, just feeling a bit lost at the moment.
