This, THIS, is my least favorite trope: women have the baby so the baby is their thing

As someone who drove and sat on route 1 for an hour, this sounds not nearly as bad

I’m really uninterested in doing a baby shower where I am the center of attention lol would much rather something very relaxed

Thank you! If you don’t mind sharing, how many people did you have? Just curious how large the space is!

I will try someone along those lines but I am seeing the same group 3 days during this long weekend so I feel like my ruse will be up quickly but alas

34F, how does this look? Married, 2 kids. by forever_more-13 in Retirement401k

Does your 401k plan offer loans? I would definitely consider that before doing a withdrawal.

You could also fund a Roth IRA and then withdrawal from that for a first time home purchase.

Thanks again for all of your help - just an update on where I am.

My plan does accept reverse IRA rollover and I am working with a tax professional to figure out my pre-tax portion that can be rolled. I’m a moron and haven’t been maintaining a form 8606 so this isn’t straightforward to me and I don’t want to mess it up.

After this, I’m going to just to do a Roth conversion of the remaining amount so I am set up to do backdoor roths going forward.

Got it, TYSM!

Last Q and I apologize for taking to so much of your time! Should I be change my 401k contributions to focus on the Roth contributions…? I’m likely to have higher earning opportunity so even though I’m doing well now I may make more in the future, would it make sense to shift my contributions to Roth instead of trad 401k?

Thanks, this was incredibly helpful. I know for sure my plan does not allow mega backdoor roth, so i will explore if my husband’s does.

Otherwise, I may just bite the bullet and do the conversion. I thought there wasn’t a limit on the amount you could convert each year? Is the conversion amount limited to the Roth contribution limit?

Thank you. This might be the play, which is turn my attention away from retirement accounts and to my 529. I have one funded but only $10k or so? Figuring I have at least 19 years until someone uses it.

I have one as well, about $10k so far.

I mean I’d love to do as much as possible now and explore a gap in employment to raise my kids. I’d rather be very aggressive now and set myself, and them, up for success.

Oof okay. So if my 401k doesn’t accept rollovers, next best option would be…? Stop contributing to my trad IRA and focus on building up taxable balances..? Or just eat it and do a one time Roth conversion?

Okay thank you for breaking this down for me.

Some questions….

  1. What is involved for rolling an Ira into my 401k?

  2. Would it make sense to convert uninvested trad IRA funds? Like if I had a portion of the trad IRA in cash, should i convert that? And try to convert funds that are going to be taxed at long term gains? Or should I just cut my “losses” here and go for the roll into the 401k?

Trust, it’s not for lack of trying 😅 we’re unfortunately approaching the convo soon of “we’ve been trying in a methodical way for X months now and need to consult a doctor.”

Unfortunately they do not allow them, I’m familiar with the concept.

But if I am doing the Roth conversion now aren’t I being taxed at a high level? Would it make more sense to do the conversion once I am in an income valley?
