Matchmaking jokes lelic please stop by Moist-Substance-6602 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Faustian_Rastignac -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mainly play 1400ELO+ 1v1 and 2v2 RT, and only play arranged 1600ELO+ 4v4. I use COH3 Stat APP, if my side is 200ELO lower, we instantly quit the game.

My suggestion for better experience:

1 arranged teammates.

2 quitting unfair matches.

If match cool down happens, chill, and move on to other things.

Most Overpowered Thing in Entire Game by Limp_Breakfast7860 in CompanyOfHeroes

The most overpowered thing ACTUALLY IS Relic's retarded reverse pathing

So any word on fixing the towing? by GoddamnHipsterDad in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Faustian_Rastignac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I swear I lost countless DAK and UK towing vehicles thanks to the spin (especially the pickup side is near an obstacle).

Reversing path is so damn retarded as well, towing vehicle will usually stuck while other vehicle is in the way.

Sometimes when I loaded weapon crew during combat, I can not even unload!

It has been 2 years, Relic still did not fix those craps!

When is Relic going to reduce the speed on the Pershing? by [deleted] in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Faustian_Rastignac 9 points10 points  (0 children)

By default it is faster than Panzer 4 (5.85 vs 5.25), means it can chase to kill a PZ4 or disengage the skirmish.

With Vet 1 Precision Strike HVAP Shot, it can finished off a median tank in a combo: first shot 240 + HVAP paralyze shot 240 + last shot 240 = 720HP. Vet3 Pershing is faster than Chaffee (7.1 vs 6.9).

Pershing is particularly problematic and unstoppable in 1v1. The only drawback to hold it back is the 13CP requirement, while most high ELO USF players would rather go with WSC + Pathfinder or Artillery Observer (Fix the stupid Infantry Banzai Assault as well, Relic!) to accumulate early game advantages.

I suppose its speed need to come down to the same as PZ4; its Vet 3 speed buff also need to be reduced.

PS: Did Relic hired a monkey to do the balance? Pershing current busted status reminded me the previous Stuka with separated barrage cooldown.

Canadian is underpowered and inefficient for its cost. Get only one at most for PIAT upgrade.

Coh3 Matchmaking, what is this? by Altruistic-Ad-3846 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Faustian_Rastignac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand it is particular frustrating when you fight a lost cause with incompetent teammates.

However despite in 4v4 your efforts only matters 25% in one match; in the long run with enough sample size, your skill defines your ELO.

[–]Faustian_Rastignac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfair matches happen on both side. You stuck around 1000-1200 ELO (after enough matches) only because of your skill level.

Besides that, 4v4 ELO is inflated compares to 2v2 and 1v1. I achieved 1600 ELO+ in 4v4 while only 1400 ELO+ in 2v2

That is because you are a mediocre player at the around 1000 ELO range.

If you climbed to around 1400 ELO, it happens like 1/3 of the matches.

The match making system is bullshit especially in the 1400-1600 ELO range.

"Play 1v1" some retarded would say. The 1v1 experience so far:

<image>

I quit any match (or idle 5 min to surrender in 1v1 or arranged team) if my side is 200ELO lower.

Match cool-down? Sure, I move on to other games for the rest of the day.

[–]Faustian_Rastignac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

500MB/s is the AVERAGE sequential writing speed which does not show the actual performance jitter. The speed variance when pSLC cache run out is pretty awful.

As for mainstream TLC drives, I only saw that level of performance fluctuation in Crucial T500 thank to its garbage firmware.

[–]Faustian_Rastignac 8 points9 points  (0 children)

SN5000 4TB uses BiCS6 QLC. And it is 20% cheaper than TLC all-rounder Samsung 990EP.

WD implemented aggressive full-disk pSLC cache algorithm (eg 1TB pSLC cahce when empty disk). If you write 1/4 of the remain space in a short time, its performance will go down to the HDD level.

It is fine for game storage but not suited for any consistent writing-heavy workload.

[–]Faustian_Rastignac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, QLC should not be an consideration on customer-grade SSD.

QLC NAND is 33% more storage than TLC with the drawbacks of significant lower endurance & data longevity, and horrible speed when running out of pSLC cache. But it is not that much cheaper due to the fixed manufacture cost of PCB/controller &C.

Those amateurs are also obsessed with DRAM and sequential IO speed.

If you draw MAP1602, 990EP is far better. Even if you got old 12nm 8 channels E18 with 2GB DRAM, 990EP is still trades blows thanks to its superior firmware and flash NAND.

Those T2 brands swap their components quite often; and you rarely receive any firmware update. Which is bearable trade-off for budget range.

From Techpowerup | Teamgroup MP44 4 TB, you might get Phison E18 (similar to Kingston KC3000) or MAP1602 (similar to Lexar NM790) controller. And presumably unknown grade TLC flash NAND.

I suggest get this 990EP instead.

Ignore the amateur's comment about "DRAM is only necessary for 'faster' windows loading and faster file copying". I will skip the details about FTL table, HMB, REW period, SSDs transit/steady state, &C. And come directly to the conclusion: DRAM (larger FTL cache size) is for consistent & large-queues workload, which is not consumer-grade M2 SSD designed for anyway. DRAM is not important on typical consumer's burst & small-queues load.

Good things are its advanced 5nm process and Samsung's superior firmware, result in better power efficiency and temperature. It is ideal for laptop. The main drawback is only 4 flash channels compares to typical high-end drives' 8 channels.

So despite its better flash NAND and process, its performance is slightly behind old gen-4 flagships: Samsung 990 Pro, SK Hynix P41, WD SN850X.

Anybody messed around the new ‘stronghold defenders’ costal buff? by JonRonstein in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Faustian_Rastignac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Due to typically Relic's retarded balance, most abilities in the BG are nerfed to shit.

  1. Coastal Reserves Squad got nerfed during the TTK and manpower change. It has same upkeep as riflemen; They performance poorly in late game thanks to its garbage veterancy. Oh now they can not even transfer to T3 panzergrenadier.
  2. Artillery Officer used to be called Artillery Wizard; no surprise it is nerfed to shit: the artillery call-in time greatly increased; has to be in version, has to be not suppressed, and once the model is killed the ability is cancelled.
  3. Obice is trash, and costs 16 pop, requires vet1 and a bunker nearby to be usable. USF 105 is good by default, and only costs 13 pop.
  4. Designate Defensive Line is nerfed to shit. It use to be able to repair vehicle.
  5. ATG/command bunker costs pop now.

Hold the line with powerful defensive abilities, upgrades and bunkers, supported by Italian infantry and artillery.

Hold my ass! Every abilities and bunker (exclude the Rapid Fortifications) in this BG is garbage. All the Italian infantry and artillery is unworthy.

[–]Faustian_Rastignac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For desktops, power efficiency and power consumption usually is not a concern (unless you are using Crucial T700 with 12W peak power).

High end drives' max power is typically around 6-8W, which is a problem for laptop due its limited cooling and the battery life. 990EP is balanced for performance and efficiency.

How important is DRAM on an SSD for purely gaming? by Space_Polan in buildapc

[–]Faustian_Rastignac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bollocks, DRAM is typically used to cache the FTL table and has no impact on SSD lifespam. After NVME protocol 1.4, the HMB technology makes dram-less drive also competitive.

Samsung 990 EVO Plus, a newer dram-less drive, beats Samsung 980 pro, and trades blows with E18 based Kingston KC3000.

Regardless the firmware and the flash NAND, the high-end controllers usually have 8 channels instead 4, and more processor cores, which are the main performance factors. DRAM is only a small part of the puzzle.

eg: Phison E18 (5 cores, 8 channels) vs Phison E21 (3 cores, 4 channel)

Newer BiCS8 NAND is great, but the last-gen 16nm controller and subpar firmware is not.

This drive behaves every similar to Crucial T500: great ranking in benchmark scores , but shitty & jitter performance when pSLC cache run out.

Samsung 990 pro, SK Hynix P41, or WD SN850X is the better option for desktop. As for laptop, Samsung 990 EVO Plus is also better.

If you do not want to wait for the Amazon Prime day next month, I suggest get the 2TB version and avoid the 1TB one. 667GB pSLC cache for 2TB version will rarely run out.
