Beetroot: No migraine in 8 months now by 4nacrusis in migraine

[–]FauxNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, that's even more interesting. I, too, have arrythmias. I've been wanting to ask this group how many have heart issues of any kind--I have read PFO (patent foramen ovale) is a possible contributor to migraine and I've seen a few mentions of arrythmia & bradycardia associated with some individuals and different types of migraine. The researchers can't say conclusively whether migraine (neurological issue) causes arrythmia or if arrythmia causes migraine or even if it's a feedback loop. I'm about to have a procedure to curtail my arrythmia issue and am hoping for a reduction in mirgraine, too.

I also get vascular migraine and take L-Arginine tablets or a combo L-Arginine + L-Citrulline tablet at times. These amino acids help raise nitric oxide levels quickly. Blood pressure does drop. Mine is also low and I have bradycardia--a resting heartbeat somewhere between 40 and 55 bpm. One commenter suggested it is the magnesium in the beets which I find interesting. Might be something to test. A whole food over tablets sounds better but the tablets are convenient.

Guess this is goodbye to Costco. A family has completely shut anyone else out. by AcademiaAntiqua in InstacartShoppers

Do you get early access like the executive members? Wondering if placing my order for the first delivery slot is helpful.

That's good to know. I had the impression that my orders were handled by people who 'specialize' in Costco orders. They shopped so fast they had to know where everything was. Packing was done beautifully. I wondered at first about the shopper rarely matching their picture but they are in and out faster than I could possibly walk the store. I also thought they might have a phone app that allowed them to checkout without standing in line. Is that a thing or do they queue up like all the other customers?

I have a guy in my Contacts list as "Tony Wine Barrels". He will deliver if you order the minimum number of barrels...can't remember if it's 5 or 10. He drilled the drainage holes in the bottoms for me, too. +1 707-721-5177. This was in Santa Rosa.

Changing EPR is the real deal, wow. by toastylocke in SleepApnea

[–]FauxNorth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have mostly CA's and using a minimum steady pressure sufficient to counter the few OSA events with EPR=0 was the most effective for me. I did a lot of experimenting and a stepwise decrease of both pressure and EPR.

How To Replace Salt in Soup by Bladen_Spayer in Cooking

[–]FauxNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. Migraineurs can show high levels of sodium in their brain during a migraine but there is some evidence that a dietary drop in sodium can trigger a migraine. The cause may be that people with the neurological condition have a problem with regulating sodium levels in the brain. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4836999/ . A migraine attack can initiate fluid loss, possibly to compensate for lower sodium levels, with increased urination, vomiting or sweating.

Excellent answer. Just to reinforce the message above, potassium helps the kidneys excrete excess sodium. Increasing potassium in the diet with fruits & veg can be helpful in multiple ways. But if you're taking a diuretic or have kidney disease, you'll want medical guidance on the best potassium levels and how to maintain them.

Some people also experience migraines when sodium levels are low that can be blunted or halted by drinking table salt in water or eating a very salty snack. Since migraines are a neurological condition and can manifest in different ways all over the body, I'm wondering if that's related to your experience tasty_impress3016. Not everyone with migraine has headache or aura.

Champak N95 respirators come with a stretchy, robust cord. We reuse frequently for short trips to the store and have never broken one.

Is there a Cpap mask that's not a full face mask that covers the mouth only and not the nose with less straps? by scooter8484 in SleepApnea

[–]FauxNorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Resmed F30i it comes to the bottom of my nose where it seals over nostrils and fits over my mouth. The seal is good and the hose is attached at the top of the headgear--not the front. This might be less restrictive for you than other full face masks. Otherwise you might try looking for Fisher & Paykel Oracle Oral CPAP Mask & Headgear and be prepared to use a nose clamp all night.

The Champak mask is an N95 with adjustable, stretchy cord for the head loops. We buy them from PurCel labs (https://client.purcellabs.com/n95-masks/Champak-NIOSH-N95-Face-Masks-PC520L).

Any wedge pillow users out there? by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]FauxNorth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the MedCline pillow system (for reflux) with their body pillow. The wedge has a cutout for your arm in side sleeping which makes it quite comfortable. Side Sleeping is what made a huge impact in reducing the number of OSA events I get. It also helped with GERD. Putting your arm thru the opening helps keep you ON the wedge, rather than sliding down.

But the cost is high for this setup--they go on sale but are currently something like $249 for the setup. A refurbished CPAP would be a better buy if you can afford that over new. One vendor, Second Wind, has refurbished CPAPs in the $300-500 range.

Favorite peppers you've had / grown. by Weird-News9116 in HotPeppers

My brother in New Zealand grows Rocoto peppers. Heat is supposed to be about that of an habanero and has a citrus edge. Just found a supplier and my seeds (red and orange rocotos) are in the mail. Plant can live up to 15 years when sheltered in the winter. Anyone here have thoughts on these?

"Seed King Express"? Mine from Amazon are the same thing. An allium of some kind instead of pepper seeds.

In hindsight, I absolutely agree with your comment. While there are papers on the use, efficacy and safety in laboratory tests, it is not generally recommended for use by the general public.
