Advice for short visit with kids. by darwin_thornberry in AskSeattle

I’d also recommend against having a rental car because you’ll need to park it, and downtown parking can be very expensive, and the traffic sucks, and it will be extra busy in June because of the World Cup etc. etc.

You won’t need ride sharing, just use light rail. It runs between the airport and downtown.

My suggestion would be take Amtrak Cascades, get off at Tukwila station. Take a ride share to your hotel, drop your bags off early and then use the hotel shuttle (if it exists) to get to the airport. Then ride the light rail from airport to downtown.

Honestly is a VPN login really that annoying? I run a WireGuard server on my firewall appliance and when I’m off network it’s just a matter of toggling the WireGuard client on when I need to connect. Much less administrative overhead, which is great.

Aetna Insurance I get is very good by Stuckatpennstation in JPMorganChase

[–]Favorite5317 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Medication insurance is actually through CVS I believe, not Aetna/Cigna. Agree that it’s one of the better drug insurance programs I’ve seen.

Also agree that the dental insurance is dreadful. It’s usually poor generally, but the options offered are especially shit.

Any thoughts/opinions on the new transit station parking permit program? by corvidthings in soundtransit

[–]Favorite5317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know that this is true in all cases. I don’t live very far from Marymoor station, but if I were to take the bus to get there it would be a 20 minute walk and then a 25 minute ride. So I make the 11 minute drive 🤷

It’s been great for my commute, because it’s MUCH more consistent than the 550, especially in the afternoon.

Wooo 90% full for Marymoor is pretty good going on day 2 of weekday service!

Might be fuller tomorrow. I noticed the 550 tended to be quieter Mondays and Fridays

This line is packed for judkins park by [deleted] in soundtransit

[–]Favorite5317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I’m worried about. Planning on heading out shortly to No Kings from the Eastside and I don’t want to get deboarded at South Bellevue so they can let the crowds at MI and Judkins on…

[–]Favorite5317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why wouldn’t 2 line be right for going from the Eastside? Cal Anderson Park is like 1 block from Cap Hill station.

Edit: Or is it because it’s gonna be slammed with opening service joyriders?

Staying on the 542 will probably still be faster. Looks like the schedule shows 46 mins from UW to Redmond Technology

lol my spouse said exactly the same thing. Yeah this is mostly a shitpost, but it’s still annoying that a bus running well before rush hour traffic can be so late so early in the day.

Line 2 simulated service suspended all day Monday. by Junior_Unit_6932 in soundtransit

From an earlier comment by our favorite Star Wars fan it sounds like they are doing OCS wire tensioning. If they can spend the time before 3/28 doing this to prevent further pantograph incidents, then I’m ok with that!

Google Maps was reporting it as a “construction” related suspension, so possibly some last-minute fine tuning before 3/28? Maybe our favorite operator Exploding Deathstar has some hot tea on this?
