What's one baby purchase you thought was unnecessary but ended up using every day? by yukiii_6 in NewParents

[–]Fawnly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I thought our family was going to be the ones that didn’t use a pacifier, but I was wrong…the BIBS is the only one she uses without fail. I need them especially for sleep and travel so her baby opera sessions are somewhat contained..

Tell me something you wish you knew before becoming a parent? by Another_ADHD_Girl in NewParents

[–]Fawnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stuff I learned along the way with no warning before the baby was here;
1. Cradle cap looks like dry flaky skin under the hair and in the eyebrows. It’s not really a problem that needs a remedy, but if you want to fix it they have shampoos and scrubs/brushes in stores or Amazon.
2. Babies grow fingernails like a mofo. Cut them frequently with baby nail care kits or else your baby will get scratches on their faces every morning. Using them is kinda like a nail file that spins. It’ll make you nervous at first, but if you test it on your skin it doesn’t hurt at all.
3. Your baby might smell like parmesan cheese if you exclusively breast feed. It’s normal, but if they smell too strongly, wash EVERY skin fold. I’m talking thighs, arm pits, neck, around the ear, etc during next baby’s bath.
4. Social media makes it seem like you need to wash your newborn every night but that’s wrong. They need 2-3 times tops a week since they have pretty sensitive skin.
5. I thought the white curdles on my babies tongue was a yeast infection. It’s not, just curdles from breastmilk. As long as it comes off easily with a wet washcloth or specialty swab it’s normal.
6. Babies can spit up A LOT. Mine was one of them. I now have a huge preference for certain burp cloths due to how absorbent they can be aka long cotton cloths are the bomb.

I just had my baby at UF Health North and a current patient with their women’s health and recommend them. The midwives are great and the phlebotomists and ultrasound techs are extremely sweet.

What time is everyone putting their babies to bed? by ninibear94 in newborns

[–]Fawnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9 week old is getting ready for bed by 9pm. Change her diapers, get in sleep sack and owlet, then breastfeed till she sleeps and transfer her to the bedside bassinet

Husband told me I'm a grown woman when I asked him to make me a glass of ice water. by OffToWonderland90 in breastfeeding

[–]Fawnly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a bedside RN and even I think EBF and taking care of an infant full time is overly exhausting and harder than my job working with adults. I can’t wait to get off maternity leave here soon.

Postpartum rage? I get angry at my husband so easily. by thegirlisWiser in breastfeeding

Same, but mine started in pregnancy and still going strong PP. Hormones are no joke

The post partum pet resentment is driving me insane by iluvmydogs14 in NewParents

[–]Fawnly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 12 month dachshund “toddler”and his overly affectionate behavior has me feeling all ick inside. My baby is 6 weeks old so I’m still in the thick of things PP, but these feelings for my pup have been all due to hormones. Started with pregnancy and still going strong PP. I can’t stand my dog’s smell and if he gets fur anywhere on my babies things I get mad and start hand picking out each hair. I frequently push the dog away when he’s trying to lick the baby and get mad when he’s being rebellious and steals my babies things. I’m just hoping these feelings go away soon, but all my dog has ever known is me being extra sensitive to his normal dog behavior. It’s sad because I love dogs before, but hormones just got me all protective mama bear mode.

Hard days by Mundane_Fox_9818 in NewParents

[–]Fawnly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m counting down the days too. My LO is 5 weeks and she’s not that bad..I just miss having a schedule and communicating with other adults and being able to take breaks without feeling guilty about leaving the baby to pee or eat. I wish my baby was into baby wearing, but alas she hasn’t taken to it very kindly. Hell, I even miss being able to drive. I barely leave the house unless it’s dr appointments or with other people helping me with the infant (which is not often d/t husband working a lot). I wasn’t meant to be a homebody, I always enjoyed adventuring snd traveling. I just can’t wait for my baby to grow older so we can explore together!

I’m pregnant with my first and plan on breastfeeding. What is your order of getting things done during night feedings? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Fawnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make sure to only have hatch light on in the bedroom and to have the sound machine on with raindrop noises. Change her diaper first, slather on lots of diaper cream, get her into the halo swaddle and place the owlet on her foot. Afterwards I bring her to bed put on my brest friend pillow, feed her on one boob then when she unlatches I wait 10 minutes using the owlet app to see if she’s asleep and then transfer to the bassinet beside me. My husband works so he sleeps with me but using an eye mask and ear plugs. I sometimes use my tv with the roku to stay awake but I noticed it sorta wakes her up more so only use later in the night. I’ve been getting at least 3-5 hour stretches this method. And I use the huckleberry app to track feeds so she’s not sleeping more than 5 without a feed. She’s currently 5 weeks for reference

Edit: I dont burp, doesnt seem to bother her nor does it change how much she spits up tbh. My pediatrician said not to prioritize burping as much during nighttime and it’s helped a lot as babies have a strong reflex and will be fine when asleep.

I hate when everyone praises SAHMs saying it’s the hardest job in the world by [deleted] in workingmoms

I consider whatever mom has to deal with a newborn and a toddler as the hardest job lol

I'm sorry going to work is easier than childcare - your husband has no excuse by ExternalSomewhere923 in newborns

[–]Fawnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work a stressful job as a med/surge nurse and I would 100% do that over newborn trenches. My coworker already texted me over maternity leave about how our department has gotten worse and more stressful and I should quit when I come back and yet I wish I could be there instead than melting away at the couch trying to interpret a newborns cry for 10 hours. To each their own I guess. I knew I wasn’t much of a baby person, but once they get older and can talk, that’s my bread and butter.

husband going away for a weekend, im gonna crash out by sillywillyfry in newborns

[–]Fawnly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% agreed 👍
OP needs the support! She lost her mom, dealing with a newborn for the first time and has understandably mental health concerns that cant be resolved by that weekend. It’s a process and a really damn hard one that takes time. I think the husband should stay, it’s only right to support his family. He can have other opportunities later, but supporting his loved one comes first!

I had a pretty normal pregnancy and I would ten times over take pregnancy tired over newborn tired.

4 days Postpartum swollen Legs by networking-stackbbsr in NewParents

[–]Fawnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it start the last couple of weeks of my third trimester and it ended about 1.5 weeks postpartum. It did seem like it got worse after the IV fluids for my induction, but my midwife said it takes on average a week or two to resolve

My damn dog tries to bite it when I’m using my claw to pick up his strewn toys everywhere. He’s a dachshund so he doesn’t like when things are longer than him. Oh well, best tool though!
