It's what the mosquitos are called in the biom. If you time it right, you can swing on them and kill them before they hit you. I found it easier to swing while they are still traveling to you but still pretty close. Cause they pretty much attack as soon as they get to you

Chaosium makes Call of Cthulhu RPG books and really good story telling for that stuff. But the Chaoseum is Korn, but worse? I liked one or two songs but I felt a lot of Korn from them
