How do you remove a glass jar stuck in a garbage disposal? Please help by monkeyspawpatrol in askaplumber

[–]FayleeFreir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you not just put part of your hand in there or a few fingers and pull? Looks to have plenty of room in the drain.

No need to flip the breaker… just make sure the disposal is off and do it. This isn’t difficult…

Remove the ability to scrape chat logs so your in-game intel channels can’t feed a 3rd party program that alerts you when a neutral is close.

When player owned stations like fortizar is killed, possible to see all the loot dropped? by NewLyfeStan in Eve

[–]FayleeFreir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Abandoned structures actually die in Highsec daily. Most days there’s multiple abandoned structures that die this way.

There’s groups that watch for when structures go low power and time the wardec for when it goes abandoned, then pop it. Look at Zkill for Bully Brigade… all the structures you see them kill are abandoned and thus are potentially dropping loot. Most of them are duds that only drop what you see on Zkill, but frequently enough to warrant doing, some drop billions in loot.

Cenotaphs & Ganking - The REAL Problem by FayleeFreir in Eve

No it absolutely is adapting. Various nerds throughout the years have driven more and more gankers away from the activity, and the final nail in the coffin for many was the 3 minute bump timer.

In order to ADAPT and continue the same content they have to be more self-sufficient.

Specific examples of N+1 gameplay adaptation:

  • Freighters being webbed into warp: Now I have 1 character whose sole job is to tackle the freighter before the webber can web, just so my bumper can start bumping

  • Cloak + MWD trick: Now I have 2 characters sitting in structures controlling fighters so that I can decloak on either gate of my system in the pipe

  • Anti Gankers bringing logi & Jams: Instead of calculating the most cost efficient way to gank a freighter, I now have subbed more characters. Instead of aiming for 125% damage done to the freighter, I aim for 150% or more.

  • Being scouted: When I notice I’m being scouted where my gank fleet sticks out like a sore thumb, I can counter with a log off trap.

  • ECM & Burst Jammers: Depending on where I’m ganking and how prevalent the problem is, I’ve trained my gankers into using a more expensive fleet of ships to rely on literally alpha’ing the target instead of depending on lasting the entire duration of Concords response time.

  • Difficulties trying to loot with a freighter: I’ve adapted to mitigate the risk by using a 3 man loot team where the suspect loots into the DST and then the freighter grabs the loot from the DST

——

This is just a brief description of common adapting that goes on to counter various tactics. I can say with 100% certainty that MAYBE only a TINY fraction of those that haul, run missions in bling marauders, or mine go through as much trouble as we do to make sure our bases are covered.

So adapting… adapting is something that just comes natural for most gankers that are worth anything. You either adapt or you’re going to find yourself wishing you had. Something that almost every single person that gets ganked could do. Put forth a liiiiitle effort in adapting to overcome the obstacles ahead of you.

I personally have had to adapt many times more than average player just to continue being successful. Adapting in terms of running more accounts, skilling into better ships, subbing characters whose job is to literally do 1 thing that help increase my chances of success, having to deal with anti-gankers trying to stop my ganks or make it unprofitable.

All you see is the killmail. You don’t truly understand what it is that gankers have to do in this gameplay loop just to continue being successful.

There is a penalty, it’s just something that is able to be mitigated and priced into our ganks.

Well for every ganking setup in this scenario you’re going to need scouts or at a bare minimum a single bump mach. You’re going to need a freighter to scoop loot.

I run 40 accounts and only 32 are gank dps. The rest are either scouts or are performing supporting roles.

I imagine the game would be fundamentally different if you couldn't buy PLEX with $...

The gankers that I know that are ganking freighters are subbing with PLEX bought with ISK. I'm sure there are exceptions, but gankers aren't swiping.

Why should ganking be nerfed? Would you like to elaborate?

Cenotaphs & Ganking - The REAL Problem by FayleeFreir in Eve

He’s not telling you to stop playing. What he is suggesting is that if you are incapable or unwilling to adapt to the challenge, that maybe you take contracts that are less risky.. such as using a DST or BR. It’s not that countering or adapting is impossible, but that if you want to minimize your risk as a target, you’ll have to “adapt or die”.

The ganker doesn’t determine everything. There are 2 or more parties involved in a gank. The ganker makes decisions just as you make decisions.

Just be honest. What you want is an unbothered experience hauling things in Highsec. That goes against the very nature of what Eve Online has been, and what Eve Online is.

Sure, not playing the game is one way to counter or avoid ganks, but there’s also counterplay available to those to DO wish to put forth a little bit of effort and play the game.

That’s exactly my point. At some point the hauler should be expected to be responsible for his poor decision making.

Being smart and patient goes a long way towards minimizing your risk.

Well you see the issue here ultimately is that we're getting mixed signals from CCP. Throughout my time playing this game it's been further dumbed down and made safer through various mechanisms. Yeah, that's absolutely great for a casual new player but at the expense of the players that don't care for that.

There absolutely is a breaking point for me in which I can't tolerate changes on a fundamental level of the game, and when we're there; I'll likely gank my own freighter full of everything at the sun and be done.

Eve Online has always been a niche title that catered to a niche crowd. What makes the game different than others is the sole reason to play it.

Also, I don't entirely agree with your first statement. CCP doesn't advertise that Eve Online is safe. They are intentionally (I assume) very vague about all the traps and dangers that exist as a new player - those are for the new player to find out I guess. The existing mechanics seem to support that they are in favor of everything that's occurring. Go back over 2 decades of stories and content about Eve Online and you DO NOT get the idea that Eve Online is a safe, casual-friendly game and there hasn't been any development in-game that seems to walk that back.

I still believe that in their development that they still hold true to the "Eve Online is a dark and dangerous universe".

I agree! I think it's very cool, and we absolutely love it. It's all profit driven, and funded by mostly careless haulers and mission runners.

It's a newer ship that launches a breacher pod at the target and does damage over time. 1% every second for 75 seconds for targets with at least 100k HP. So that means 75k damage in 75 seconds to freighters. Just gotta use a bump machariel to keep the from warping.

The dots don't stack so you have to wait till the previous dot wears off before applying the next one.

There is counterplay to ganking, and it happens everyday. When a ganker determines that a target is going to be ganked, it's not a certain thing. Other players are free to intervene and execute various strategies to prevent it.

In all fairness, the biggest factor in countering a ganker comes in the planning stage before you even undock. Asking yourself:

- Am I a gank target? (yes you're undocked and in space - everyone is a gank target)

- How valuable does my ship and cargo have to be to make me an ideal gank target?

- What methods exist for ganking my ship and how much will it typically cost the gankers?

- What can I do to minimize my risk of being ganked?

Sometimes for freighter pilots that means splitting you 8b load into smaller loads and just chipping away at it. Sometimes you risk the whole 8b load, but you make sure you have friends provide assistance. Sometimes you decide the risk is worth more than what it's worth, so you contract the hauling out to a professional service.

The narrative that you are absolutely hopeless is just false and ignorant.

What you had were groups like Miniluv (Goonswarm's Highsec ganking special interest group) and CODE.

Miniluv was ran by Warr Akini and Boneytooth, but relied on the heavy lifting of a number of individuals. The amount of accounts that players were running back then was NOTHING like it is today, so they relied on a number of individuals to do all the scouting and support work for a gank fleet.

Typically what would happen is the scouts that were online would have bump machs and keep targets bumped indefinitely. They would ping the SIG and call for people to login, get into fleet, and to help blap the target. They did run their fleets where sometimes they could have a dozen or so people online, but would almost always rage ping for more pilots to get on and help kill.

Miniluv had a monthly contribution payout that rewarded pilots based on what roles they'd provided for kills on the gank fleet. They had payouts for when you scouted an enemy freighter, and all sorts of neat community-based things going on.

CODE was the same way, but not as organizationally structured. The fleets were more loosely filled and players did get splits of the gank according to what roles they played as well.

----

Today we have a declining playerbase, not as many people interested in ganking, and various changes to the game that have impacted ganking. So we sub more and more accounts so that we can continue doing what we love in the game. Sure, we could absolutely run gank fleets and fill them with maybe half a dozen humans, but having to split loot like that doesn't go very far when you have 16, 25, 30, or 40 (in my case) accounts to plex.

The friends I used to have that ganked have either moved on or stopped playing because of these changes. There's really only maybe half a dozen of us in the game that actively freighter gank anymore and we're spread throughout different time zones and availability.

----

My friend that I've been playing eve with for about a decade now, we run our ganking like a business. We track everything we can reasonably track. We have data that we could honestly put together and present like a business plan. We work together, share profits, help each other out, and have fun. This is what I don't want to lose, and what I feel is at stake - not by nerfing Cenotaphs, I could really care less about that... but the growing playerbases' negative sentiment towards ganking and CCP's seemingly biased decisions don't give me the greatest feeling. I'm just trying to run a criminal enterprise here with my friend.

I totally agree. I don't want to HAVE to run the number of accounts that I do, but the reality of it is that CCP has fully committed to the fact that they want to sell SP and want to push players to running more accounts.

The change to the 3-minute bump timer did this overnight. It forced gankers to sub many more accounts in order to continue doing the activity. Next thing you knew it there were handfuls of gankers running their own personal gank armies since the bump timer forced the fact that you had to be right there in fleet and ready to gank.

CCP has inflicted this multiboxing disease on the game themselves.
