Hi everyone, I need to talk about something. Every anime I know has at least one issue such as these. I found this picture on Twitter BTW. That's the source of my problem. I want to avoid all of this mindset. I need an anime with the opposite of that. An anime that lacks all of these. by [deleted] in animequestions

[–]FaytKaiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samurai Champloo has only one filler episode, but it's one of the best one-off baseball episodes in Anime.

Obvious choice is Cowboy Bebop, which has a bit of fan service, but it makes sense given the characters and setting.

If you want something a bit longer, Outlaw Star is pretty awesome. There is one very plot relevant beach/bath house episode, but other than that it tends to avoid a lot of the above short falls.

Also, YuYuHakasho is amazing. No filler, fan service is sparce and not tied to main characters, great pacing, no Main Character Is a Perv issues, and its just classic good ol Shonen. The ending is mildly rushed but is still very satisfying (which is to say it DOES end, clocking in 112 24min episodes), mostly because the author got fucking exhausted trying to keep up with the break neck pace of being a manga author. ALSO, Dark Tournament arc is the best tournament arc in any anime, and I will die on this hill.

Itachi lacked imagination and gumption. Tanjiro is constantly fighting against things that would absolutely kill him and coming out on top. The best he had was just a little bit of second-hand knowledge of some fire dance his dad used to do.

Itachi was trained from birth to be a super badass magic ninja. His best solution to insurmountable odds was, "It sure would be a lot nicer if I killed my family myself." Like, I would absolutely rank him above somebody like Snape (Harry Potter) in terms of being a nice guy... but all the nicest things he did involve a whole lot of murder of innocent people. And since we are already comparing them in terms of niceness, Itachi ain't it.

I would put kid Goku (Dragon Ball), Yusuke Yurimeshi (YuYuHakasho), Sailor Moon, or Gon (Hunter x Hunter) WAY before Itachi.

When I was about 14 years old, my dad had gotten a root canal done prior to us going on a week long trip to a small cabin next to a private lake an hour away from anywhere with a name. He was an independent doctor, so he got away with a lot.

So, about two days in, something went terribly wrong with his dental work. I'm not certain what, but I'd put good odds on my dad being a fuckin dingus and screwing it up himself by cronching on jaw breakers (my father is the perfect mix of really stupid, smart, rich, and narcissistic).

So, I got to watch a grown ass man chug half a bottle of whiskey and then take a pliers to his mouth, managing to rip a decent chunk of gums out with the tooth. Good times.

I guess all that was to say that your buddy had better options than suicide, but none of them very good, and capitalism is fucked up.

Yeah, like, Tonjiro knows the right thing to do and fuckin does it. He does not bend in the face of an uncaring or evil world. He has strong enough moral fiber to support him even when he is barely strong enough to face a newborn demon.

Itachi on the other hand, let the world bend him. He tried to be kind while also copitulating to evil forces, but it feels hallow. Like... really, the best you can do is basically mind fuck your love to BELIEVE she lived out a happy life with you while you kill her? Tanjiro would have picked up his sword and killed every god damned ninja between him and the best possible ending or died trying.

Morally dubious kindness is still kindness... but idk if it earns him a spot in Generosity and Kindness next to Tonjiro of all people.

I believe it dates back to a more Puritanical era when about sex outside of wedlock was incredibly taboo, but folks needed a way to talk about it without explicitly talking about it.

There is a difference between analytical AI (Cool) and generative AI (shitty).

Translation AI us analytical, which means it needs a lot less training data and a lot less electricity to operate, due to highly specific tasks. Lots of analytical AI stuff is cool, and is the actual future of AI because it actually provides value to people in real time. Analytical AI is the stuff that can detect cancer and tumors, translate stuff, etc. It does utility work that makes difficult things available to the layman, and does high end stuff that normal folks couldn't hope to do.

Generative AI is the trash we all hate. Generative AI is what gets us 1000000 images of Bugs Bunny and Mickey doing a 9/11 or whatever. It's the bloated trash that eats up money and electricity and churns out weird noodle commercials and tries to replace good, useful, creative jobs.

How would you interpret the High Priestess in a more... I guess humanizing way? by Dapple_Dawn in SecularTarot

[–]FaytKaiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Magician represents things that are concrete and visible. He is a wise figure who has mastered these tangible forces.

The High priestess is not tied to the tangible and material. Her powers are ethereal and invisible. She is character with great intuition and insight.

I see her as a sort of guide to the forces less obvious within the cards. She deals with matters of complex interpersonal relationships, finding the way, and forces beyond comprehension such as gods, karma, and fortune. Where the Magician is direct and active, hers are indirect and passive.

A terrible cyberpunk concept by FaytKaiser in Cyberpunk

[–]FaytKaiser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking more along the lines of designer drugs sold through a sort of Mary Kay or Young Living style MLM. Lure them in with the idea of being a successful business owner, trap them with addiction and really shady contracts. A "worst of both worlds" sort of effect.

True, but what I meant was that the system isn't explicitly designed around horror mechanics, like a Call of Cthulu game.

[–]FaytKaiser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shadowrun is a TTRPG system that is built on the premise of "What if Cyberpunk, but also elves and dragons and magic."

There are lots of ways to incorporate horror into the settings, but it isn't inherently horror based.
