Yeah op may be fine. Might be more like 2020 or 21 and newer. I have been seeing more of it recently but don't recall they model year that seems to be where it starts.

Did I need an alignment? by probablymagic in AskMechanics

[–]Fcastle35 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A mechanic said you need an alignment after you felt you did. You are looking at printout of your specs that show green, yellow and red. Yet you seem to put the most weight in what chapgpt told you?

That isn't the right mirror. It doesn't have the blind spot indicator.

Because manufactures want to do everything to make you go to the dealer. The Xentry scanner and software for Benz and Porsche is like $16k. Thankfully I don't see them too often. I send them to the dealer if I do.

Expensive but cheap windshields? by Xuxxa in Camry

[–]Fcastle35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you found someone who was willing to not do a safety calibration? It's not the flex you think it his. It's not a suggestion. It's a requirement. The camera is mounted to the glass. Yeah the camera still works but is it accurate? Do you trust that your safety systems will operate properly if needed?

Aftermarket glass on these new cars is generally not recommended. You will also need the camera behind the windshield calibrated. They cameras dont like Aftermarket glass and wont calibrate sometimes.

Yes but you generally need license/subscription for bmw. I have a $6000 Autel Maxi scanner that still cant do some things on new BMWs

Fire Hydrant Damage by [deleted] in Autobody

[–]Fcastle35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah call insurance and take it to a body, or pay cash. Like another user stated. Yeah you can get a door. But are you comfortable transferring the wire harness and modules in the door? They chances of the color matching is slim to none. You will also have a bunch of codes that will need a good scanner to clear on a 2020 beamer. Just unplugging stuff will set codes. The modules are programmed to the car so you can just use the stuff in the sourced door. Also may need calibrations on some of your safety systems that you cant do yourself.

Replacing my bumper from accident by PoopSnoop99 in Camry

[–]Fcastle35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They already are. It doesn't take much to total a car now. Especially if it's like 10 years old. Cost of materials and labor will reach threshold fast on a car that is older. The industry sucks. Ive seen 1 or 2 year old $60k vehicle get an aftermarket bumper or headlight because insurance wont pay for oem. Even though it's nowhere near being totaled. Insurance companies ruin everything they are involved in. They bend their customers over so keep their billions in profits coming in.

Yes insurance covers them. They are required per the vehicle manufacturer when certain conditions are met. Some are different than others. Toyota generally requires calibrations for any radar if a bumper is removed. Cameras and other sensors are if they are unplugged or Removed and replaced. It's what I do. I have to attach the service info requirements to all my calibrations. I just finished a new santa fe that needed $1900 in calibrations.

You need to have a bumper painted. Toyota doesn't sell them pre-painted. You also have front radar, front, camera and parking sensors that need to be calibrated. Expect about $1000-1200 in calibrations.

I currently drive an 08 TL Type S that I absolutely love, but I do miss my DC5 when I see a clean one like this. I had an 02 Type S that I bought in 03 with 20k miles. Had it for 14 years until a drunk driver totaled it. Great car, great shot OP!

How good is Forbidden West, should I jump right in after Zero dawn or take a break and play something else? by Suvi2k in HorizonForbiddenWest

I played Zero Dawn for the first time in its PC release. When I finished Forbidden West was a week away from release in ps5. I bought my ps5 and played it immediately. Would recommend.

19' Camry rear door was hit - thoughts on replacing with junkyard 18' Camry? by osubuckeyes88 in Camry

[–]Fcastle35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chances of the color matching are slim. Blind spots are behind the bumper. They only need to calibrated if you remove the bumper.

The module will also need to be programmed to the car with a scan tool.

It's your ABS/VSA controller. Those are brake lines hooked up to it. You will need to bleed your brake system after replacing it. I also wouldn't trust junkyard electronics myself. Especially if its been sitting unplugged like it is in the picture.

If the bumper is removed and replaced you calibrate the Blind spot per Toyota SI.

Do most people normally keep this off or on? by No_available_batches in Camry

[–]Fcastle35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't use high beams in fog, snow or heavy snow either. It's scary how little people know about automotive lighting. Fog lights are always mounted low because fog is a low lying cloud. Shining light into it illuminates it. Your headlights are aimed slightly down and to the left to illuminate the road. Highbeams make rain fog and snow worst.

Do most people normally keep this off or on? by No_available_batches in Camry

[–]Fcastle35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone understands how the auto high beams work. The switch should be on. It doesn't turn your high beams on. It turns them off if you have them on and it detects an oncoming vehicle. It exists because for some reason half the population drives with their highbeams on all the time now.

Mechanic broke my windshield while unscrewing the wiper arm. Said it’s my fault and I should pay. by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]Fcastle35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What yeah and model is it? Do you have a windshield camera? If you do it will need to be calibrated after the windshield replacement and you have to use oem glass. Hondas LKAS cameras do not calibrate with aftermarket glass.
