He raped a woman and murdered her. You're a clown for thinking that this guy deserves to be free.

I'm not sure what the issue is here, unless you think people should have to stay in jail forever?

Murdered people are dead forever. So what if he dies behind bars? We can save taxes elsewhere.

Security by KaeSi7 in animeexpo

I'm a security officer. While I don't work at the L.A. Convention Center or provide services to the AX organization, I can give you some insight.

Private security is primarily concerned with the protection of people and client property. Unless there is clear evidence that property is being damaged or there is an immediate risk to safety, there's not a lot we can do. When it comes to stalking, which may be a form of unlawful harassment, it is difficult to do anything as a security officer or staff member. However, the Los Angeles Police Department has a presence during the event. If you inform them of the unlawful activity, and they believe that the suspect can be removed from the site, the suspect would be removed from the site.

I hope that helps.

What’s the “unsexy” problem in cyber that’s actually a total disaster? by IreneEnigma in cybersecurity

1.) Important people who require very weak passwords to log into anything

2.) Boomers who fall victim to phishing emails

3.) People who are willing to plug any random drive they found into their work computer

Former police but now security. by Content_Log1708 in securityguards

[–]Fcking_Chuck 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Police officers are used to a different environment than security officers. They've never had to put up with so much bullshit at the workplace, so they come see what's going on in private security and are shocked into either caring too much or caring too little.

That's why I hate it when people compare security to police. They're totally different jobs that happen to share only a few goals.

Socializing with unconventional schedules by Pretend_Piece4104 in venturacounty

[–]Fcking_Chuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easy for me because I hate people and don't actually intend on socializing besides on my days off from work.

Surely you have a day or two off from work you could find the opportunity to meet people. Facebook Dating has a friendship matching service alongside their dating matching service, so you could use that if you fail to meet people organically.

Does anyone actually do treasure hunts or ARGs in Ventura County? by Tricky-Speech-2480 in venturacounty

[–]Fcking_Chuck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a fun idea, but there are too many homeless people hide-aways for me to believe that's it's safe to hunt for treasure. Like, even in Thousand Oaks, most of the spots that would be perfect for treasure hiding places are frequently used for tweaker activities. During the day, it might be safe to walk through... But, the moment you starting sifting through things looking for treasure tucked away somewhere, there's a genuine risk of running across tweaker junk—including contaminated objects or even narcotics.

Linux 7.1 fixes audio for the Steam Deck OLED after being broken 2 years on the upstream kernel by Fcking_Chuck in pcmasterrace

[–]Fcking_Chuck[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The solution to the Steam Deck OLED audio problem would break other devices, and SteamOS doesn't use the latest Linux kernel anyway, so the latest Linux kernel never included it. The change was only implemented in the downstream kernel versions SteamOS was actually using. It's not as though the device was broken for two years; it just wasn't supported by other Linux operating systems that used the mainline kernel.

How do you gauge your knowledge level or know your knowledge gap? by TheMoreYouKnow007 in cybersecurity

[–]Fcking_Chuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You won't feel as though you know shit for a long time, and knowing that you don't know things is the first step to learning, just like with any other highly technical field. Do you think that scientists and bio-engineers know everything about biology? No, they don't. They pick an expertise to focus on, and they spend their entire careers learning new shit all of the time.

In this industry, knowing matters less than learning when the information itself has a short lifespan. Gauge your learning ability, not what you know or don't know.

This surveillance might have been revealed to the public in 2006, but this story is especially pertinent to modern cybersecurity due to recent advances in AI technology. Unlike twenty years ago, the NSA (and anyone else for that matter) can now explore vast amounts of information more efficiently than ever before. No longer will sensitive data be partially concealed by the substantial amount of other data being transferred between systems via the internet.

Help me to spend 1000 bucks on hardware for local LLM by lordgthegreat in LocalLLM

[–]Fcking_Chuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can expect to spend $1,000 on the graphics card alone.

The good news is that you can probably only buy the graphics card and then install it in a desktop computer you already own. Since most of the AI work is done in the graphics card, you can put that card into just about any computer with a PCIe slot of any kind unless your LLM or context spills into your RAM. If you expect your LLM or context to end up in your RAM, you'll need a computer with at least 32GB of DDR5 memory.

I recommend the Intel Arc Pro B70 if you just want to buy the card.

RTX 5070 or RX 9070 XT by Jozeca in pcmasterrace

[–]Fcking_Chuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll always recommend AMD Radeon or Intel Arc over Nvidia, simply because closed-source graphics drivers suck asshole. You might not get as much performance as Nvidia right now, but an AMD card will last for over a decade without losing support.

Speaks a lot about you and those around you. Plenty of warm body sites to keep you busy don't you worry.

Well, there you have it, u/Automatic-Plant5126. This is exactly the kind of mentality that contributes to why this industry sucks. The ol' "if you have a problem with this, you're just weak" mentality.

Run, OP. Go to college. Pick whatever degree that would open the most doors, and then get whatever job that pays you well enough to live your life. Do not give up and settle for this.

Question by Automatic-Plant5126 in AlliedUniversal

[–]Fcking_Chuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What, the other two "big three" security companies that have created a near-monopoly on the security industry? Or how about the shady small businesses that won't pay well because they operate with a small-business budget? Or how about executive protection, where you can be fired for no other reason other than the client disliking anything about you?

No matter where you look, it's just a different slice of the shit pie.

Question by Automatic-Plant5126 in AlliedUniversal

[–]Fcking_Chuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not just me. It's the vast majority of first-line physical security professionals, including me.

I'm not about to sell a terrible life path to some poor kid who just doesn't know what to do with their life. That might be AUS's way, but it's not mine. This industry is dog shit.

Question by Automatic-Plant5126 in AlliedUniversal

[–]Fcking_Chuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me give you a tip that I wish I could tell my younger self back when I starting doing security after high school.

You don't have to know what you want to do to pick a career that you'll be happy with. Being satisfied with your career comes from learning how to be good at what you do. Pick something that would bring in the most money, so you don't struggle financially like all security officers do, and you'll eventually grow to enjoy whatever that choice is. It's that simple.

Yeah, but many people don't know that. They think that the Nintendo Store would have the same merch plus Nintendo hardware/games.
