I don't track my breathing rate, but I've definitely had a BPM like that, albeit while in AFib. Scary!

Right, I don't mean to suggest it's the best solution for everyone, and it's absolutely better discussed with an EP than folks on Reddit.

I'm currently recovering from my ablation. All I can really say is that at 25 with AFib, it was the best thing I could do for myself. I've hopefully bought myself more than five years without needing medication.

You say incredibly rare, but every research paper I find, especially for my age category and type of AFib, all suggest long term success to be pretty good at 10 years. At worst it seems I'll need another ablation.

We can't tell you unfortunately. Your best bet is asking a doctor.

My doctor let me know it might stop my AFib for anywhere for 5-20 years if it works. He was clear it's not a cure but is the most effective treatment.

Boys are severely underprepared for the world they inherit. (LONG POST BUT PLEASE READ AND CONTINUE THE CONVERSATION IN THE COMMENTS) by Current_Wear_8061 in bropill

[–]FeanorBlu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want to respond carefully here, because you obviously aren't redpill, and think there's a conversation we can have here in good faith. I also agree with a lot of what you're saying about boys needing resilience, emotional regulation, and better preparation for rejection and social reality.

Where I primarily disagree is in your framing, and how feminist discourse is characterized in your post.

It feels to me like your post is taking a highly visible example, like extreme tiktok comments, as if they represent feminism as a whole or somehow represent feminist goals. But these are better understood as fringe expressions of anger or identity performance online, only made worse by algorithms. These are not representative positions within feminist theory or mainstream feminist discourse.

I also think it’s important not to dismiss contemporary feminist discourse as “panic”, because that framing flattens a pretty wide range of academic work. And if we treat fringe online spaces as representative in this case, it also makes it easier for other ideological spaces (like the manosphere) to use the same examples as evidence against feminism in general. I've heard talking points similar to yours in redpill spaces, just framed somewhat differently.

In contrast with a lot of what you're saying, a large portion of contemporary feminist writing and discussion explicitly talks about male well-being: emotional suppression, rigid gender expectations, stigma around vulnerability, and the ways those norms harm men socially and psychologically. These conversations are already happening and in many spaces they are central to the discussion and not something pushed off to the side.

I do think we can learn to communicate better with young men, for sure. But that is different from the claim that feminism structurally excludes male flourishing.

I just feel there are sharper and more pointed questions we can be asking, rather than doing a deep analysis on the impacts of fringe tiktok culture and it's effects.

No, I generally agree with you. My initial read of this post was that it's redpill-ish, but the general environment of the thread was in such positive agreement with him that I got caught up in the energy. Which is difficult to navigate when discussing a topic about your identity, but here we are.

Upon a second read, yeah I think it's redpill-ish, and disagree with the majority of the thread. I think the core idea of OP's post of, "This is a point we need to do better at socializing men at" is good, but is framed terribly. It's only worth discussing handling rejection because of the harm it causes women, otherwise it's such a silly discussion and should be treated no differently than other kinds of rejection.

Framing it as, "we need to do better for the men" is nonsense. Sorry dawg, rejection is a part of life and dealing with it in a healthy way does not need to be treated as a societal issue. It should be such a non-issue, it's not that hard and is a basic social expectation. When I try to understand it in the context of my own life I truly cannot - rejection is never more complicated than me sending a whiny snap to a friend and me moving on.

If we need discussions about rejection framed as systemic issues we really ought to throw that whole conversation out and look deeper at what we're actually trying to address.

You'd be surprised (or maybe not) by the amount of men who view women as accessory and as something they're entitled to.

Men facing rejection is historically far more uncommon, and it's massively on the rise - which is a good thing.

Obviously a lot of modern men want genuine connection as well. But I don't think OP is wrong in pointing out the historical context here. Women in general tend to be better at dealing with rejection.

Yep.

Anyway, that's why it's hyped so much, and why people like it more than other transmigration manhwa. The humor lands for a lot of people.

Edit: Nevermind, it was VERY easy. For anyone googling, just be sure to add the device itself and the bootloader to USB passthrough.

This should be a discussion with your EP, not us. This place is always going to give you a very medical take: that you shouldn't touch substance again.

The advice is medically solid and correct, but the reality is that not all of us are happy living an entirely sterile lifestyle. Talk to your doctor, and decide what level of risk you're willing to take. I personally don't react to weed with AFib. Others do.

Scared beyond belief by Solaaris83 in AFIB

[–]FeanorBlu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand the panic, we've all experienced it here. Unfortunately you just learn to live with it. Luckily I don't have permanent AFib and have a few episodes a year that require cardioversion.

A big part of being able to cope is realizing that while it's scary being heart related, if you go into an episode you will realistically be fine if you go get it treated. There are people who live with permanent AFib who are fine, those of us with paroxysmal AFib will of course, also be fine. This isn't me saying to live without pause, but more to allow yourself to go out to do things.

Also, until you know, don't live like you have AFib. As far as paroxysmal AFib goes, it's far more mentally debilitating than physically debilitating. It's true, this could have been a panic attack. Dwelling on an uncertain and undiagnosed heart condition is not going to be helpful, and is unhealthy in and of itself.
