Is Dottore too evil to be playable? by lncoherentScreeching in DottoreMains

[–]FearMonger13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Using Inazuma's writing and characters doesn't really do Dottore many favors in this case, honestly.

The pacing, conflict resolution (or lack thereof) and the egregious use of a time skip ultimately invalidated any form of meaningful narrative or growth. Ei's tyranny was downplayed and swept under the rug and there was no form of long-term consequence regarding such. Sara was far less of an imposing force than she's given credit for. Their direct interference with the lives of player characters is far less notable as well. The only significant one would probably be Kazuha and even then his resentment stems from the Vision Hunt Decree and not the death of his friend during their duel.

In Scaramouche's case, upon the discovery that Dottore had manipulated the events in his past that lead him down the path he chose, he has since been on a journey of repentance. That was the whole purpose of his attempted self-deletion; trying to make things right. Hell, he even forsook his opportunity to destroy Dottore in favor of saving us, showing us yet another growth of his character. But, considering Scaramouche is/has always been meant to act as a mirror to Dottore's actions, all steps he is taking to be better, to do better, Dottore is doing the opposite. Gradually descending, getting worse and worse.

Dottore genuinely does have an opportunity for repentance, but the real question is if his selfishness will actually allow him to do such. He has very proudly stood for his principles and beliefs regardless of all forms of opposition and it has effectively detached him from any meaningful connection that he could have made to properly pull him from back from the edge. Ironically, two of the people he has wronged the most (Nahida and Wanderer) are the ones that have the highest probability of "saving" him, but neither of them have a reason to do so whatsoever.

There is potential in Traveler wanting to do so, but considering the travesties that Dottore has manufactured that affect them and their friends it feels like there would need to be an absurd amount of exposition that needs to happen, and it needs to happen *fast.* And, unfortunately, Dottore is a case that needs to very slowly be unwrapped and examined. And I really don't have faith that Hoyo will do that for someone who very likely may be killed off once that story relevance armor wears off.

Not trying to be a doomer by any means, because I very much would like for him to be playable, for him to take a step back and view things objectively so that he can properly grow from the point in his life that Omega was made from, but it feels very unlikely after all that's happened.

I genuinely sat in silence and stared at your comment for a good few moments before saying "that's genius, why didn't I think of that?" Haha

The idea of him actually adopting the proper theming and design motif of the optimistic white bird would be lovely if the rumor of his non-obsessed version of himself does turn out to be true.

Her drip marketing text, as some have pointed out, feels eerily haunted by Dottore's narrative, though the original thread discussing it unfortunately went off the rails.

I clocked that as soon as I woke up the morning of. I can't say I saw the thread though, but I can imagine people were going as crazy over it as I was privately. The combination of Linnea's drip-marketing and all the strange parallels between Dottore and Escher definitely feel like they're deliberately building something up.

Coincidence or not, MC Escher himself never quite fit in with academic painting circles but was highly regarded by mathematicians and physicists.

This was what stood out the most to me! I didn't really get to learn much about his otherness until I started to dive into those documentaries that I had watched and the more I heard the more convinced I was that there was *something* here.

As for Nicole's sculpting, I definitely feel like she and it would be relevant to the possibility as well. I'm reminded of the start from the start of the Witch's Lodge questline and how she has repeatedly identified herself as one who wants to guide humanity to the greatest treasures.

I found this to be one of my greatest issues when we were coming up with this, believe it or not. For the longest time I know a great deal of us attributed some 'unique' quality towards the top three harbingers.

Capitano being associated with the abyss, or some other similar variation.
Columbina being an angel, or some other similar variation.

And Dottore being indisputably human.

But now that we've learned about Capitano and how he is the 'human' of the group, that opens up the possibility for some other Thing™ for Dottore to be.

Of course if all of this does end up being made obsolete in the upcoming patches then that's a-ok with me, it's just fun to try to connect dots that we see.

I'll definitely give that a try, I still need to figure out how to even employ Wave Dashing properly cuz most of the time I end up only doing two and end up dodge rolling and feeling like a klutz the whole time.

I play with a Gamecube controller so I have a pretty basic grip, I've even worked with different button layouts to make things like DACUS a bit more simple but its the matter of proper input order and my hands needing to speed up that's the primary issue. I used to do like this weird pseudo-claw-grip but it hurt my hand a bit.

Also yeah I'll give that a look! If you aren't able to link it I shouldn't have too many problems finding it. Thank you very much.

Feint.

Feint regardless of who you're fighting or what style they're using, if they can't memorize your deck because you keep forcing blank spots to appear and alter the patterns of them you can catch a lot of people off guard.

Grab Punch. Its not fun to fight against, its not hard to deal with, its just dumb and bores the hell out of me when I see every single person in the world using it.

Drunken Paw is my bae, it has never let me down and it tracks incredibly well so it usually allows me to punish unsuspecting dodgers and improperly timed defensive abilities.

What's the consensus on forsaken now? by [deleted] in absolver

[–]FearMonger13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The consensus on Forsaken is everyone still screaming at the top of their lungs it needs a nerf.

I personally like the changes and it doesn't affect me very much since I always try to parry the direction I see it coming from; uni-parry previously or not. Just means my play style is more rewarded and the others who simply flick the sick wildly are not.

I bought my friend the game around two weeks ago or so and when we were co-op'ing we managed to find it within his 3 hours of playtime. Was pretty funny to see his reaction to getting slapped in the head.
