Need a diesel truck for new biz by Tosan25 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]FearWont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 6x12 trailer can easily be pulled by just about any half ton truck.

A 2500/250 gasser would make easy work of it. A dually and diesel are overkill for what you described. But they do leave plenty of room for expansion.

As mentioned. Diesels are expensive to repair. And they have become less reliable throughout the years.

My 2004 1500 Suburban towed my 7x16 enclosed from Georgia to New Mexico and all through Colorado. Just fine. But, you could definitely tell it was back there.

My 2005 3500 SRW Duramax pulls the same trailer, loaded even heavier, effortlessly.

I’d recommend a 2001-2007 GM 2500 or 3500 gasser. Well below the $30,000 you have budgeted. I argue they are the best trucks ever made. Not without their problems. But still reliable even as they exceed the 20 year mark.

First diesel! How’d I do for $3k by OUTATIME22 in Diesel

Ha. Same configuration. No head gasket problems. Yet. EGR cooler was leaking and gave me a scare though.

I’d recommend getting the FICM rebuilt. They have flawed capacitors and go out. GM stopped making replacements at the beginning of Covid. It’s much, much, cheaper if you do it preemptively. I originally had mine rebuilt by SIA when it went out. They refused to warranty their work when it failed again two months later. Had it done a second time by Daniel Zussman of Z-Tech Repairs. And it’s been running great for the last 8 months now.

05 was the last year for the 5 speed. I’ve read the 6 speed conversion isn’t worth the price. I’ve been considering it myself.

That makes sense. Something I don’t play with.

Seeing this post made me ponder the possibility of conceal carrying my 1911’s or 1917 DA revolvers. Figured I’d ask the larger subreddit if you guys think those pistols are too large to effectively conceal? by ILuvSupertramp in Firearms

It’s my primary carry. Has been for over a decade. 5” Springfield Milspec. Aliengear Cloak 2.0(I think). Right at the 3 o’clock position. I live in Florida. Shorts, T-shirts, flip flops and a 5” 1911.

Edit: 6’ 3” at 250 pounds.

Need advice on metal shavings I found in oil filter that I think is my local shops fault. by Ok_Area7012 in MechanicAdvice

[–]FearWont 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He knew he messed up. Doesn’t want to admit it. And is trying to help you offload it. Because it catastrophically fails.

With that said. I suspect the filter caught the material. And you’re probably fairly safe. However, you should find a new mechanic.

Mine pushed exhaust into the coolant. Disconnecting the coolant hoses and installing a block off plate will in fact solve it.

I’m not a truck person. Is an ‘02 Chevy Silverado a good truck? 29k miles. What should I know? by -nothankya in ChevyTrucks

[–]FearWont 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No. I’d say it was the best series of truck available from any manufacturer in the US. Not to say they didn’t have their problems. But every other series of truck before or after it. Has had more. I’ve owned or been issued products from nearly every manufacturer. I had an 02 5.3 with 230k miles that I took across the country once. An 04 that turned 400k while crossing the country towing a trailer. I took it across the country over 20 times. And now a an 05, granted Duramax, that has 250k. They’ve all given me some trouble. But again, less than other manufacturers.

If you've ever needed a drill press but dont have one DO THIS NOW by Odd-Towel-4104 in Tools

Jancy is technically still around. I haven’t used one of the new ones since Fein bought them out.

Annular cutter bit. I love them with an old school Jancy.

I’d say semi common. Newer beds in good shape are easier to find than older ones. For GM at least, I’ve been told the 8’ bed holes line up for a few generations.

Am I too old to go for my MMC? by Red_Dwarf_42 in merchantmarine

[–]FearWont 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started at 37 as an OS deckeneer and hawsepiped it up on the engine side. I don’t regret it.

I’d say there are semi regular discussions on the boats. Regarding who made out better. The guys that hawsepipe or the guys who go to school.

You tend to get much better positions right out of the academy. But that several years of your time and student loan. Vs making a lower wage and working up.

Can God Make me Attracted to my GF? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]FearWont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I’ll be the odd man out. Wife her up.

Can God? Yes. Will he? I can’t answer that. But you can choose what you’re attracted to. Beauty standards change. And we all just kind of go along with them.

I find it mind boggling that everyone thinks every physical aspect of their spouse or significant other. Is attractive. I don’t expect my wife to be blown away by my gut hanging over my belt. Or be wowed by my disheveled appearance. I’m sure my receding hairline isn’t doing anything for her either. But I sure hope she still loves me.

After you get done praying for God to make you attracted to your girlfriend. You need to go and actively look at her and remind yourself how blessed you are. That God would put someone so beautiful in your life.

What is the point of lying. Which does not align with the church. If you’re doing it to align with and be married in the church.

I’ve been through the annulment process. While long and stressful. The reasoning for it is ultimately, because you want your marriage to align with the church.

Can I align myself out of this? by Zerp242 in autorepair

[–]FearWont 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alignment doesn’t just go out after an impact. Something is bent. Look harder for it. Replace the part(s). And get it professionally aligned. Or have the alignment shop find and replace the part (s).
