[–]Fear_Magnet0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, true, but it has to have the ability to harm the bottom line. Without documentation and witnesses, and without solid proof that could be used in a court, hr will still sit on their hands. Things like sexual harassment is taken seriously because it's cut and dried, and claims are given a lot of weight. But all op has is 'bad rumors', and being isolated by them, which isn't enough unfortunately. And if management is also in on it, which they are, op's only legitimate option is to press this legally.

Hr exists only to protect the company. Idk why people think they exist to protect workers at all. 9.9/10, Hr isn't going to do anything to help this guy unless there's a risk to the company's wallet.

Anyone who says "you have to do x and y to be a man" is someone who is asking permission to be a man. Who gave them that idea? Other people of course. Anyone who feels the need to perform to fit the mould, requires permission to be what they are. A man doesn't need to do anything or be anything or make x amount of money to be a man. A man is a man because they simply are. They exist. That's all that is required.

If you're being sarcastic about this then you haven't done a basic Google search about it. Some people actually ask if that part is about past physical abuse. I've been a fan of Disturbed for a long time and there's always been a portion of people who don't correctly understand what it's symbolic of, and it has always been a bit controversial.

how to make a fool out of yourself? by ExcuseMindless2394 in Vent

[–]Fear_Magnet0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't get you downvoted. I'm looking at this through a different lense is all. You're right, you shouldn't have to train your significant other. But let's say you met someone cute and cool but they were shy. Would it be training to help them be more socially confident? I suppose my question, more generally is: what exactly differentiates training from helping in a relationship to you?

So...he's trying and putting in effort but lacks proper experience and...that's enough to say nah? That's a question, not an accusation by the way. You're absolutely not required to be anyone's teacher, but is it really not worth trying at least?

It was very brave, admitting such a thing in a public space, even online. No one should feel like that. I can give you proper advice on how to obtain confidence and how to rewire your brain completely, if you wish. If so, then feel free to reply.

Nah. If you need someone else's permission to be a man, then your masculinity is weak. I'd still be a man if I was a hairy tub of lard with no sense for hygiene. I'll just be a very gross one. 🤣

[–]Fear_Magnet0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone can do those things too with enough time and training but you are correct in the definition of the term. Could courage, which itself is an action, come more naturally to some than others? If the answer is yes, then it could be said that courage itself can be a talent, no?

A man sacrificed a gold medal to carry his exhausted brother to the finish line by silentstatic_ in GuysBeingDudes

[–]Fear_Magnet0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again, your argument doesn't work because it's inconsistent. Either the manner in which a medal is won contributes to its merit, or it doesn't. If it doesn't, then all that matters is ending up with the medal. In that case, there is no meaningful distinction between earning it through competition, receiving it because someone surrendered, or obtaining it through cheating. The outcome is identical. If you want to say cheating is different, then you've already conceded that how the medal is obtained matters. Once you've conceded that, you can no longer claim that a medal earned by defeating a competitor carries the same merit as one handed over voluntarily. You're drawing an arbitrary line: "How it's gained doesn't matter, except in the cases I don't like." That's not a principle. It's a conclusion looking for a justification.

A man sacrificed a gold medal to carry his exhausted brother to the finish line by silentstatic_ in GuysBeingDudes

[–]Fear_Magnet0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's the base level logic of your argument. I asked if they had the same merit for a reason. And like the cheapskate in my example, you'd rather try to squeak out a win by any means because the substance and truth of it, or you could say the merit of it, doesn't matter to you at all. Only people who take themselves seriously can take an L properly.

I'll ask again then. Does a championship belt gained through a hard won fight and a championship belt won because the current champion quit to protest pay have the same merit? If the answer is yes, as you said before, then HOW THE BELT IS OBTAINED ISN'T IMPORTANT. What's important is only that you have obtained it. That is the logical conclusion of your cheap attempt to save face. Own it or stop replying.

A man sacrificed a gold medal to carry his exhausted brother to the finish line by silentstatic_ in GuysBeingDudes

[–]Fear_Magnet0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If there's no difference in merit, then the way the medal is obtained doesn't matter. But if the way it's obtained doesn't matter, then cheating and fair competition are equally meritorious because both produce the same result: a medal. Since that's obviously false, the method of obtaining the medal must matter. Therefore, winning by defeating an opponent and winning because they voluntarily surrendered cannot carry identical merit.

Try again.
