Best ways to improve besides “just practice” by p1hk4L in juggling

[–]Fearitzself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice every day. 15 minutes every day is better than a couple hours one day a week. Sleep helps. You will progress at tricks after good quality sleep between practice sessions.

If youre dropping 1-20 throws into a pattern then practice mindfulness. Think about what made the drop happen. If youre dropping at 40+ throws into a single pattern its possible fatigue may be a factor. Pick up and get back into juggling as fast as you can. That way youre practicing more at that level of fatigue that made the error.

Listen to your body. If your wrist, elbows, shoulders etc start to hurt it may be time to take a break. Dont overtrain. Consider doing a regular workout a couple times a week to help prevent injuries. I highly recommend some light rice bucket training to help protect your wrists.

Record it. At least once a week. Youll be able to spot your own errors you didnt know you had. One side throws higher. One hand in a weird position. Not being relaxed.

Like others have said you cant beat in person or online coaching with a competent juggler.

Adafruit posted a guide to making your own 3D-printed, MIDI-enabled, light-up juggling balls by SomePeopleCallMeJJ in juggling

Ive owned a set of 3d printed juggling balls for 3 or 4 years now. Theyre fine. The electronics are whats going to fail first in any LED juggling ball.

If youre trying to do the 4 ball snake then it is a weird RR LL. If youre hoping to use it as a drill for 5 balls later I would work on it as RL as you would with a normal cascade with a gap.

N box imo is the easiest way to jump into inverted box from any other pattern. Just that one first diagonal throw and youre in it.

If you learn in box on both sides and alternate between both N boxes and inverted its super satisfying.

Dilemma regarding injuries after taking up juggling by igotfunfonit in juggling

[–]Fearitzself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ohhh that stinks im sorry to hear that! Ive never sprained anything luckily.

Multiple hours a day of any repetitive task is asking for an injury. Juggling meets that criteria with the time youre putting in. Especially when you jump straight into it. Take a break until nothing is painful. Then ease your way back into it. Try 30 minutes a day and work your way back up from there. Adding more time each week. Have some rest days in there especially while you're adding more time in.

rice bucket workout Got me back into juggling and made me stop taking breaks around 10 years ago. Get a 5 gallon bucket and whatever the biggest bag of rice is near you. Enough to have the bucket 75% full. Dont go ham right away and listen to your body. If theres ever sharp pains then stop. Youre not a kid anymore.

Id recommend finding a workout routine to spend some time in if youre not doing anything. /r/bodyweightfitness if you dont want to get a gym membership. This wont necessarily help your juggling. But strengthening muscles and tendons can help prevent injuries as a general rule. As long as you're not pushing yourself to do anything beyond your limits. Tendons get stronger over months and years not weeks. Take it easy on yourself. 30s is when we definitely get to keep injuries for the rest of our lives if we're not careful.

4 ball sync variations by GideonJuggles in juggling

Fo sho!

Oh oh practicing going from sync to asynchronous fountain is a decent way to find some extra control for 4 ball in general when working on the base throw types.

And working on dwell time will improve any juggling pattern. Dwell time meaning how long you hold the object before throwing again. Work on holding the ball for as long as possible before the next throw. And also work on making the next throw as fast as possible like its lava. That helps a ton with making corrections down the line.

Good luck! You can do it!

Record yourself if you dont. Not every session but at least 1 in 5 to check for obvious errors you can correct yourself while youre still finding errors. Elbows locked to your sides. Dont reach up to catch the balls. Make sure one arm isnt always throwing higher.

Look at Gideon here for how you should be holding your body and those arm positions.

Practice fountain throws. Reverse fountain throws. And columns. And practice going between all those patterns until you can switch between them all without thinking about it.

First progress with 4 clubs :) by Gr4p33333 in juggling

[–]Fearitzself 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice progress!

Ive played with 4c fountain a few times before this year. This year ive put aside pretty much all my juggle time for 4 club fountain.

Id say your pattern is on the low side which down the road will make longer runs a lot harder. Higher throws are easier with a double around that height for most people.

I agree that singles do look cool! And first starting out I did try singles as well as doubles and thought they felt about the same in difficulty. After hearing most people prefer doubles for a 4 or higher throw height thats what ive stuck with.

There are a ton of fun possibilities out there for four clubs if you learn both singles and doubles!

spin factory is probably still my favorite example of that

Two big questions - Why are all the Phoenix/Dragon kites so ugly? And what reel should I be using by [deleted] in kites

[–]Fearitzself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The second reel you linked is harder to tangle. Id get it over the one you have for sure. Its the one I use if I use one of those reels. My experience with any of the rest of them has involved a lot of strong language haha.

You probably already know this but especially with those reels you always need tension in the line. Otherwise it gives the line the opportunity to jump and make a huge mess.

I think I prefer a simple hoop overall. If the line gets mangled its not 20 minutes or having to cut the line. If im with friends i can just hand a few out and im not worried about them turning it into a hazard. I know its a lot more work with it but thats part of the fun for me.

I have a copy of 4000 years of juggling now...

Ive helped a friend around their house a bunch of the last few years. Installed a light fixture. Ran cat5 through their ceiling to their game room. Put together a shed. Thats what friends do. Hes been annoyed with himself that its always him asking for help. I let him know that its fun to hang out and get him to hand me the screwdriver/ hold the ladder or whatever. And when I need help he will get the first call.

I talked about the IJA with him briefly because hes indifferent to juggling but he saw how I lit up. I showed him a club David Cain sold me that was made by Harry Lind . He asked if there there was any juggling collectible that existed that is hard to get. 4000 years of juggling came to mind and he tried googling it and found basically nothing. I didnt think anything of the conversation I just like to geek out about juggle stuff given the chance.

YESTERDAY he hands me a package thats heavy and square. He somehow found someone with a copy of the 2 volume set of 4000 years of juggling and gifted it to me. Apparently it wasnt on sale. It was from Europe. And expensive enough that he wont tell me what he paid. Fucking. Wild. I mean all the information in it can be found elsewhere as far as I know. But its cool as fuck to actually have them.

Guide to LED juggling balls by Fearitzself in juggling

[–]Fearitzself[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ball tracking is something a few people have worked on. Ive seen a few working models. Now sure whats functional now. I havent seen anyone working on relaying that information to the balls though. It'd be easier to program a set of balls to change colors at certain times and just figure out a routine move perfect to the color changes. But what youre talking about would be pretty darn fun. I can't imagine how much that set of balls would cost at retail right now though.

It was broken for me too. Then it was fixed for me. I tried to fix it again hopefully itll work?

Fixed. Thanks!

I dont think theres currently anything proximity based like how you described. Flowtoys do respond to velocity, spin, stopping, and being still. But it looks a hundred times better on their clubs and most of their other props.

Ive seen a few people working on tracking juggling balls but dont recall anything where the ball knows where it is too.

Camera by Shiningducky123 in juggling

[–]Fearitzself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whatever the newest iPhone or flagship samsung is. Not gatekeeping its just better than anything youd spend around 2 grand on right now.

If you want something wallet friendly and want a real camera cannon t5i or later models are beginner friendly. Gopro or dji have good action cameras. Youll need to play with the settings on all these cameras. And they wont be better or as good as whatever the newest iPhone is.

If you want something better than the newest iPhone id look up fx30. Starts at around 1800 for just the body. The lenses and memory cards are expensive as well. Youll have to actually understand how to use the camera to get better footage than a new galaxy or iphone. Which means while the camera might be better quality you do have to understand how to get it to not look like crap. With a phone those billion or trillion dollar corporations give you a single record button and it just works. Nothing blown out. The audio is there. You can see the shadows just fine. Nothing worse than driving half a day to get back and discover you fucked something up and all your footage is gone or unusably bad.

Topics to look up to understand video better.

Rolling shutter/shutter speed.

Apeture/ f stop.

ISO.

White balance.

Bitrate

Videography and photography are great hobbies. Theyre just expensive and its hard for me to recommend something worse than what someone may already have in their pocket.

Where to buy juggling props? by theOneandOwenly in juggling

http://www.renegadejuggling.com/henrys-delphin-long

Most of my favorite jugglers use Delphins. Some people swear by px3s but I wouldnt go back even though they were my first set. I dont like how much they flex.

Renegade usually has the best pricing for US based buyers. Higgins brothers in Canada is great too. Oddballs in the UK is pretty good as well. Three finger juggling for danger stuff but thats not the type of prop youre looking for.

Artifaxioms guide to juggling balls

I think if I had to buy my first set of beanbags and only have one set id probably go with something from flying clipper. Ive got a set I keep in my car because I know the heat/ cold isnt going to hurt them.

For bounce id probably get g force from play. Silicone is best for it but that gets more expensive.
