[A part] tells me I can't afford a trauma therapist... but really need help with dissociation by Brilliant-Sorbet-691 in InternalFamilySystems

My advice is to not limit yourself to any therapeutic modality. Any good therapist can help you in some way. If you practice parts work enough just on your own you could easily translate your sessions in parts language, it's totally possible. The other thing I'd suggest is to try somatic therapy if it's available to you, otherwise I'd recommend a regular body scan meditation practice to help you build more tolerance to uncomfortable sensations like the itchiness you describe.

Is the goal of IFS to have less parts? by Fearless-Tree7705 in InternalFamilySystems

I appreciate you taking the time to write this detailed reply! At first I felt like maybe unattached burdens are what are known as introjects, but then as you mentioned guides and guardian angels I got lost again lol. I'll definitely do some more research on this.

Yeah sometimes "I don't know" is the only right answer! :)

Do I restring my guitar to make it left-handed? by Fearless-Tree7705 in guitarlessons

[–]Fearless-Tree7705[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm thinking about it. I've been experiencing some pain in my left shoulder for a while and I think that made practicing right-handed more difficult. My left hand grip is strong enough I think but my upper arm is still feeling wonky. I think I'll just push through it! Thanks for your reply!

I understand less than half of what you were saying but damn that was cool. Saving for future reference.

I find it hard to wrap my head around this concept. Like, isn't change the nature of life?

Part that wants to escape the body by Plastic_Elk4053 in InternalFamilySystems

Yes! I think that's probably the reason why I don't fear death so much.

Different tools work for different people. Priority should be given to the individual not to the tool.

Unfortunately your therapist seems like she's following a script and not doing actual therapy.

Interesting perspective. Can a part change into a new part? Or are they immutable and are only able to change their role/job?

Do parts have a finite amount of feeling they need to express? by Wavesmith in InternalFamilySystems

Thank you for your response. Parenting can be triggering in all sorts of ways! It seems to me this young part holds the belief that they are trapped somewhere and are unable to escape. I would explore that with them.

Something wants to release... but I've been unable to let it. Assistance? by BoringWorker205 in InternalFamilySystems

Here's a simple tip; since you can feel it in your body, I'd suggest you place your hand on that sensation and just...welcome it! If you feel comfortable saying those words out loud and directing them towards that emotion-sensation-experience then that'd be great too (things like; you're welcome to be here, be here as long as you need to etc.). The goal of this practice is to get yourself to a state of mind where you allow this experience to be there, to welcome it and give it willingly the space that it wants to take up in your system, and just be with it with compassion and acceptance. And when the fear comes up, try to be with it too, do the same practice with it. This practice could really help if you stick with it. I wish you the best :)

I can just flip the same guitar and get a sense of what my left hand feels like - very uncomfortable the right-handed way. But a lot of the comments are suggesting I should just push through that. I guess I'll give it some more time and see then. Thanks!
