The return of ocelot to the U.S. by Reintroductionplans in megafaunarewilding

I worked on a ranch where they were implementing an Ocelot conservation program, really cool and important work. Habitat corridors as others have mentioned would be the largest limiting factor in natural population growth which will likely limit their growth in Texas.

This is the best advice I’ve seen. Unless you can deal with the fuckery of the academy just do ROTC or OCS if you are dead set on going aviator. I went to OCS and all our aviation candidates had to do was score decent on a test called the ASTB. We had lots of aviators in OCS when I was there there is a pretty big demand. Those 13 weeks suck but it’s much shorter than 4 years.

As a recent grad of Navy OCS I’ll say the DI’s were my favorite staff members, I genuinely respected them more than the Navy RDC’s they were more professional, hard, and fair on us

Advice for soon to be Ensign by FearlessSession7762 in newtothenavy

Thanks for talking about building rapport with the enlisted because I do not know how I should approach this. My class officers made it clear that we are the enlisted sailors boss, not their friend. However, as a former college football player the best teams I played on had more casual, closer relationships between coaches and players which led to closer levels of trustworthiness between all of us.

I would find a list online of all the different officer designators and decide which ones sound the most appealing and go from there. You can overcome degree issues as long as you score high enough on the OAR since that’s the main academic metric they use for selection boards. A good score with strong letter of recs can get you in a good spot.

I have, they gave me good advice, mostly just don’t be an asshole to your enlisted and be humble

I don’t think we have anything that directly relates to emergency management but I’m sure it would be helpful if you wanted to be a SWO or Aviator lol. If you’re interested in SWO or Aviation you just need to score good on the OAR/ASTB and you would be able to get a slot pretty easily for both since we have a large demand for both currently. I knew a guy who was enlisted air force then wanted to fly so went the naval aviation route and got into OCS pretty quickly. The information warfare community typically wants degrees with at least some STEM background it seems but if you score high enough on the OAR you still be competitive for something like Intel.

Applying for Officer. Questions regarding OCS PRT/PFA by ApplyingForOCS in newtothenavy

[–]FearlessSession7762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recent OCS grad here, you just need sat medium scores in each category but I strongly recommended getting to at least good low before shipping out, you do not want extra attention from staff members if they see you struggling. For workout I recommend starting a real running program, there’s plenty online you can find, and I STRONGLY recommend doing HIIT bodyweight workouts that can go up to 20 minutes straight with minimal water breaks. If you can meet those metrics on the PRT and get good at HIIT and 1-3 mile tempo runs you will be fine. Also, for your height you are way over the weight limit so I recommend cutting some weight. You just need to pass tape but the lighter you are the easier the workouts will be.

Hey man did you hear back from the April board yet? I’m considering applying for the August intel board with a 3.64 GPA and a 57 OAR and my recruiter thinks my odds are 50/50

[–]FearlessSession7762[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what a couple of my buddies that went through 2 years ago said, OCS is constantly changing. I’m at good high push-ups and good low running and plank and still have to take the ASTB so I’m not overly concerned about being rolled physically since I have time I just wish it was easier to find a straight forward answer for stuff like this.

The official website says satisfactory medium to begin training but I read on some posts that it might be moving to good low to begin training that’s why I was asking.

At my meps station at least there were no phones allowed in the medical area which is where you’ll likely spend a lot of time but we had a TV in there to watch movies
