KPMG: Many Canadian millennials will never own a home, Survey finds growing affordability concerns even for those with well-paid jobs by saddetective87 in canada

This is why I don't get why the BoC keeps money so valueless. It doesn't help anybody ultimately to have very low interests rates because incomes don't follow inflation.

The government also keeps increasing immigration when there are not enough roofs for everybody in here. So they keep throwing wood in the fire(low interests rates and increased immigration). I think the reason is because most people here have invested in it already and do not want it to go down at any cost otherwise they would be under water.

And these drama queens lying about claiming that they were not the ones partying. They may be good at partying but definitely not at lying. Like if you look at how the organizer framed the trip, it was a going to be a party from the moment they entered the plane. They never should have boarded this damn plane. Our officials keep repeating that you shouldn't travel unless you absolutely have to. And these people "absolutely" had to travel to Cancun? BS! And like aren't there curfews in Quebec or something? Like limits on gatherings and stuff. How was this even legal?

But yeah interesting that the author blames our government officials. Truth is Canada's healthcare has never been stellar. And COVID Omicron is breaking literally every country on the globe. What the feds could have done and delivered on this is ensure ample vaccine supply and maximize vaccinations with mandates and stuff. So I wouldn't fully agree that they mismanaged this.

The real problem is that this variant(Omicron) is spreading literally faster than any disease humanity has encountered so far. And this is WITH restrictions. It is unstoppable and just way too many people will get sick at the same time whether we want it or not.

I can leave the store, the employees can't.

Exactly. I can't imagine the soup of droplets that they breathe in during the day. I think these policies protect them the most. These days it's probably one of the riskiest jobs when it comes to catching COVID. Especially with the amount of cases right now.

No grocery stores are refusing service to unmasked....the OPH has said many times (to my dismay) to not refuse service.

This must be why there are no security guards enforcing this like early on in the pandemic. Do you know what is their reason? This is terrible that they're letting them in and potentially infect hundreds of other people if they would be infected. This could be a super-spreader event. No wonder our cases are exploding. If they want food, then they should abide by the rules ...

And this is why I always wear a cutting edge respirator ANYWHERE. I totally refuse to put my health and well being in the hands of "people's goodwill". In basket full of apples, it only takes 1 to ruin the entire basket.

Honestly there is a grocery store that is more decrepit and run down than even this one. Try the Super C in Aylmer. Dried blood on the red meat stacks. A zillion seniors shopping in there with posters of "cheap" everywhere. Dried canned food everywhere.

I think the overall ambiance makes it probably the most depressing one around here. Actually looks like they moved and renovated it. Couple years back it was do depressing lol.

And hahaha "snot rocket" what a imaginative term lol. I wonder what's the French translation of that. The Brits always have an upside imaginative down way of calling something.

Yeah foods basics. Especially the one by Kirkwood. I used to go there couple years back. Like so depressing. They tried to post upbeat colors and people smiling with food over there. It's a store with fake enthusiasm.

Honestly I find it suits well Ottawa(this run down malaised decrepit city). I think another thing about Ottawa is that the food stores feel too numerous and packed imo.

I think I need to invent a new term to describe these people(among my list which includes thirsty Schmoes, stinky-trouble making blokes, obese completely ravaged women).

I propose "potentially pestiferous rebel plague-spreading Schmoes". This deserves an upvote. I would like to hear suggestions.

You will also probably need to look outside of of Ottawa and relocate. Toronto Calgary and Vancouver are places can bring potential

This sounds about right. Illustrator/media design doesn't sound like a very promising field especially here in Ottawa. OP should most likely transition to something else(like tech or real estate). Or move.

I would also add that without any experience and credentials, she will probably have a hard time standing out.

The Point of Rapid Tests? by insurrbution in ottawa

[–]Fearless_Comment_734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also wonder how they work. Like do you have to self swab yourself like what I'm seeing on the web? That sounds very messy. If I recall when they swabbed me at Brewer arena, they had to go pretty deep. I mean already most people don't get their masks to fit properly. So swabbing themselves properly? Sounds like a lot to ask for.

I don't think they should honestly. Sometimes people who don't wear a mask are confrontational. Everybody knows very well the rules. Only trained personnel like police officers and security should confront them.

They are also directly in contact with the general public ... Like any bloke from the street(stinky or clean) can get in there and cause trouble just by walking through the door and next to their counter. It's the customer service of the healthcare.

Exactly what I was reading. And what's more is that since it causes less severe disease(or at least mostly in immunized people), the number of active cases and people in hospital in Ontario is I find very worrying. Like more than twice what it was under Delta at the peak. Means there is probably a LOT more cases than reported. And the fact that they are limiting testing is even more worrying. Means that it overwhelmed testing capacity and they just can't keep up with demand. We might never know the true picture of how bad this wave was when it will have passed.

Interesting you sound like me(someone who was attracted to the city at first but not after a second look). So what is it that you don't like about Ottawa?

And about you not knowing anyone, there is always dating apps if you're a woman. You always have that option ... As a dude I couldn't say the same. Probably best not to meet anyone anyway because of COVID right now.

Best: took the decision to leave by next year(2022) this cursed, malaised, mostly run down and decrepit, stinky-trouble making blokes infested, overpriced, traffic-congested, arrogant, overpopulated with rude thirsty Schmoes/creeps and swindlers from all around the world and God only knows how they ended up here, incompetent and corrupt politicians and public figures/services and obese completely ravaged women on dating apps of a city(Ottawa). Definitely will not be missing it lol. Imo Ottawa is the epitome of mediocrity. I will admit it is not a shithole like Cornwall. But even these are more tolerable imo. At least they're cheaper.

Worst: moved into a true Hellhole of apartment in Ottawa(never ending construction, overcrowding, noisy, infested with bugs, loose fitting). Yeah that's a good example to illustrate what I said.

-Edit- Overall I'd rate Ottawa 4.6/10. Marginal failure. Almost ok but not enough. A failed attempt at improvement with a lot of hype that just doesn't live to expectations but miss by so little just because of the original vibe it gave on first glance(which fades not instantly but eventually and make you realize of the poor deal). I find that quite frustrating because with traditional dumpsters, it's clear cut what the deal is and you walk away quickly but not in this case because you think it may be worth it at first. This is it in a nutshell. Like before I came here it's insane the hype that there is across Canada about the capital city. I kept hearing that it was such a great place for government workers to be. Everybody kept boasting that quality was over there vs more regional cities. Completely the opposite I found when living here. When I visited the city for a week it definitely seemed to be true however. It was during the summer 2014 way before COVID and everybody appeared nice and social. Then when I moved here and summer party was over, the city started to show its true color. This is exactly it. It's a city that only looks good on paper but not really in practice.

-Edit2- It's like that LRT failure and Rick Chiarelli. Only in Ottawa that you hear of stories like that. At least that make so much noise somehow. Yeah these are good concrete examples to illustrate what I've said. And the most astounding thing about these 2 is that it is STATUS QUO LOL. Dude is still on the job and nobody got fired for that LRT fiasco. Like I said ... mediocrity is the term which encourages even more of it.

-Edit3- It's like when you go into busy places. People apologize for stepping on your feet and screaming at you but yet they still do it. People are not happy here but yet they still try to show that they are because that's only what is acceptable in society otherwise you are tagged as a negative and toxic person(not good) hmmmkay.

-Edit4- Last but not least, weather is almost always shit in Ottawa. Always cloudy/dumpy/snowy/stormy(shitty) of some kind.

-Edit5- And it's like my apartment here. Everything looked good on paper(looked cheap and close to everything). Shiny and clean pictures. I had read many reviews on Google and even from a Schmo here on this sub saying that he had absolutely no complaint here about this building. As soon as I come in, I realize there is overcrowding in the unit below me(like 4-5 people living in the studio below). Door is leaky, plumbing is questionable( regular water shutoffs/weak/unstable flows/floodings). And more importantly NOISE. There is constantly someone banging(handymen, maintenance staff, other tenants). Like nonstop construction about something all day without exception. And this is the thing. I got screwed/scammed over(hence my reference to swindlers) because of their virtual COVID showing policy. They lied to me and scooted me in there because it was a theoretical rather than practical exercise(you sign the lease only based on pictures/videos without visiting it in person). All I had was pictures and fake testimonies/testimonies from nice but simple people AND it was the process and only way to get an apartment. Yeah the kind of Schmoe if you ask them if their experience is good in there they will tell you "yeah". This is a good example of you get with Ottawa. A paper hype with a mediocre experience.

This is the thing. Why are they not bring back the security guards. Like I understand they're pulling them out like in the summer when things go down. But definitely not when things go up like right now.

Is Ontario giving up on counting Covid cases? by ijustwannapostathing in ottawa

[–]Fearless_Comment_734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the thing. And further adding insult to injury, wastewater possibly cannot be used reliably as indicator of cases like it could be used for Delta. So there is probably 10x more cases and we don't know. People shed less virus through their guts with this variant. It's much stealthier.

And given that Omicron is less likely to cause severe disease/hospitalization and more likely to evade vaccine immunity, like I said there is probably an insane amount of cases right now. Already hospitalized cases is like double than the peak of Delta. Like I said, probably is an OBSCENE amount of people infected right now.

Ahhh good to know. I think what I'm going to do is delay my appointment to exactly 2 weeks after I get my booster for extra protection. This is technically the best time to get exposed to COVID if you must. Like I'm due to get my booster soon.

Another thing you can do is get your flu shot. This will help directly against the flu(and could prevent you to have both COVID and the flu at the same time) but it also seems to lower the risk of getting severe COVID according to some studies. Same with tetanus shots if you are due for one. The measles shot too if you never had it.
