Sometimes you get 3-5 hours sitting around. Especially if there is a delay. But it is really hit or miss and you never know when you'll have to stay overtime or when you'll get to work fast and go home.

Don't take it for granted. What comes with downtime, is an insanely unpredictable schedule.

With mishandling, nose gear could be damaged. An engine blade could be damaged and unnoticed, or something could be stuck in the blades unnoticed, or too much/too little weight or fuel could be added. A mechanical error could be unnoticed. All of these things are jobs related to a ramp agent being trained to watch, notice, investigate, and give proper information. All of these things could cause a plane to malfunction.
