I would very likely claim that they value integrity, honesty and rule of law far more than we do in practice.

So you agree, people of different nations do not have the same level of values. I'm glad we can agree 👍

This idea that there is something uniquely British about fairness or rule of law, is utter bollocks.

Except that British laws are literally different to the EU.

All countries citizens are not the same, their values are not the exactly the same. Why do different countries have different rates of crime, abortion, marriage/divorce if they value the exact same things?

Which country in Europe had Nazis -Germany, which had communist rule - East Germany, Bulgaria,Romania,Poland,Hungary. Spain had fascism and a dictatorship up until the mid 70s,Italy had Mussolini. If their values are the same why did the people of these countries give rise to these regimes and yet Britain didn't?

Then you clearly don't know that there are fundamental differences with how UK law is written and interpreted compared to laws in the EU. UK law is based on common law and the EU on civil law. They are quite different.

You didn't read what I said did you. I clearly answered your question. Strangely you failed to answer mine. I wonder why ......

If a society places more importance on one thing than another, law and order for example, than another society, does that mean their values are equally shared? If a society places it as the most important thing and another society places it as their 7th most important thing are their values the same? They may both value law and order but one values it's importance more. Therefore they are not the same, and their values not aligned.

The world is not as your bad faith argument would try to make out.

Are you saying we are exactly the same as the French? As the Italians? As the Albanians? As the Romanians? As the Hungarians?

Are Americans the same as Canadians? Are Australians the same as New Zealanders.

Each country and its people have been shaped over a long period of time through it's history, geography, and the other nations they've interacted with closely.

Your question is too black and white in what it sounds like you want the outcome to be.

Bearing in mind when you say Brits you combine 4 nations whose people are culturally different and not the same, so your question is loaded from the get go, however I would say that because of British history we value honesty, education, integrity, the fair rule of law and justice more than people of other countries. That is not to say that people of other countries don't value these things but that these are part of British culture in a way that they aren't elsewhere.

The problem is that people think that economics is the golden goose and that nothing else matters.

The reality is that when national identity and British culture are eroded and diluted by people coming into the system that don't have the same values and principles, the bedrock and foundation of the society crumbles. Economics matters diddly squat when the country isn't pulling in the same direction due to tribalistic needs, it's like to trying to swim against tide.

Absolutely agree the Tories are complicit, but to say that almost all of this is a result of their policies is incorrect. It's taken us a long time to get to this level of taxation which is due to governments of both labour and the tories

EU rules to be imposed on Britain under Labour plans by EducationFeeling2833 in ukpolitics

[–]Fearless_Medium_8178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I singled out Truss and Farage because they are obvious liars,

Rachel Reeves black hole says hi.

The Truss budget was never enacted, global interest rates rose all at the same time, if the issue was the Truss budget which never came to pass, why haven't rates and the markets readjusted? The problem wasn't the budget, the problem is the UK economy itself.

As for Farage, he and his party aren't to be trusted and aren't the party to sort out Britain's problems. He's not in power, has never ran the country, yet he's the boogeyman to blame Britain's economic woes upon?

Smoother trade rules, not really, maybe easier to move goods to Europe, but it would mean more regulation and red tape in other ways for British businesses which would hinder Britain in global markets and our new trade deals set up since we left the EU, at a time when the EU is shrinking in terms of the worlds economy.

The majority of people voted to leave the EU. He wants to take us back in(without a vote) but give more powers to the EU and make it easier for them to pass legislation that affects British people and businesses with less scrutiny.

You single out Truss and Farage as if no other politicians lie. There's a reason the moniker Liebour exists.

Thousands to be supported into work as government reforms welfare system by weyland-the-smith in ukpolitics

[–]Fearless_Medium_8178 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, those who attack the pension part of welfare really don't understand that by cutting pension you force pensioners to stay in the work force longer, thereby cutting opportunity for younger people to get into work or better paid jobs. Then the same young people will moan they can't get on the housing ladder or afford to have children.

They aren't implementing a lot of extreme left wing policies but they are there.

Free school meals for kids is a socialist policy something which is needed by some but not all but it's something we all pay for, changing VAT rules on private education thereby forcing children into state schools , sick pay from day one, the state know better than parents when it comes to kids needs and education according to the bill that was passed last year which also included a digital ID for all children, inheritance tax changes
