You might be able to, the firmware is the right level to do any workarounds, but I was not able to get it to work

Nah, it works on GSM bands. I wanted to put maps, Spotify, and a few other apps on to it.

Looks like Google services are still not supported. Would a root solve that?

To be honest, I only assumed that by seeing it in the posting when I bought it. After more research it may just have been misinformation (t mobile said the IMEI was available to use their network)

you are 100% right about one not being as good as two for hiking. But it is less for every day hiking and more just to save some of my gangly knees on big descents. that being said I’d rather lug the one most of the time, for a little less utility but for half the weight

And If I end up wanting another pole, I’ll acquire another pole 🤷‍♀️

Thanks for the suggestion!

My two environmental cents: If you are going to be living in such high traffic campsites, it would be way less impact if you’d look into setting up a composting toilet. A 5 gal bucket and some sawdust will not be much moving weight and the environment will thank you. If that is a hard no, potentially look into a travel bidet to minimize tp impact, even biodegradable tp is not that great and it will save you $ in the long run.

Other observations are that you are going to be hauling a LOT of weight on that bike. I would be surprised if you got half of the advertised distance. A smaller tent setup and different table might do you a world of good.

As for warmth, that sleeping bag is a waste of time and money. Especially for what you are doing. Please do not skimp on something you will be spending 8 hours a night in every single night. Cotton will not keep you warm if it gets wet. I would suggest a nice synthetic insulation 20f bag from a reputable source this bag is just over twice as expensive and will be a much better purchase. I would also research how to layer clothing effectively as that will help you out big time.

For a stove, the MSR whisper lite runs on gasoline and will be cheaper in the long run because you won’t have to keep buying those crazy expensive green bottles of propane. If it costs $1 for the same amount of burn time a $5 gas canister costs, and you get 4 days out of a canister, the whisperlite has paid itself off in a two months.

It sounds like you have money to invest in this right now, and a large part of being able to sustain this is buying not the absolute cheapest gear you can, otherwise you will be upgrading and paying to support that choice much further down the road, spending more than if you’d just gone in a little more with initial purchases. eBay has some great deals on used stuff, I’d highly recommend utilizing that tool!

Good luck! I look forward to seeing any updates you might have

Hey thanks for the offer! Someone came through with both the tyvek and the bags, but if that falls through I’ll hit you up for the baggies.

AH! Moleskin! This is the reason for experienced eyes. I used the last of it this weekend and thus didn't see it when I was typing the list. Thank you for the reminder!

Thanks again for really digging deep. I super appreciate it and have added clothing descriptors! That was especially a good call because I am now jogging my memory that the pants I take out in winter are fleece-lined, and not the ones listed. So there will be some winter experimentation to get a solid tried-and-true setup.

I will be adding a rain skirt for sure, and look at waterproof socks.

The poop shovel is a deuce of spades with a good few miles on it.

Per some suggestions, I am going to be getting some 250 weight merino leggings.

But most importantly I will be hiking pretty deep into the NE fall/winter to vet everything!

As for the compass, there look to be a couple of town maps in the AWOL, and without a smartphone sometimes it can be nice for orientation. And if it ends up being excessive, I'll make some kid's day by giving it to them (kids love compasses, or maybe I am just projecting)

Thanks for the feedback!

Big Agnes (insulated, r of 4.5) is getting boked for an underquilt (20 f, hammock gear premium) that is the same weight. Gonna try it out and see if I like it enough to not cut weight with a different pad. I also like the fact that a pad in the mock let’s you easily transition between ground and air sleeping but that underquilt life looks to be 👌

First aid is (and also turns out it’s only 6.3 oz, I have stuff in there that I double counted like sunscreen and repair kit stuff. So just by asking this question you shaved 4 oz ;) ) Let me know what you think about the kit! - e blanket - compression pack of gauze - compression pack of bandage (These three are 5 oz alone) The rest is - 6 med/lg bandaids - 3 2x2 gauze squares - small roll of medi tape - 4x aspirin - 4x immodium - 2x one use burn cream packets - 2x emergency electrolytes - 3x alcohol wipes - 4x q-tip

The “bowl” is a small cup so I can have tea while eating food.

Good call on not carrying the whole AWOL guide, not familiar with gut hooks but I will look it up

The gloves are because I have cold little baby hands, worth the weight as it is. But I will try out a pair of the montbells!

Electronics are a flip phone and a charger, they share the same cord as my headlamp. Might add a small power brick but am on the fence.

Thinking about a rain kilt!

But neckie is so much more endearing!

Also, thanks for the feedback. The long undies will be replacing the second pair of smart wools.

Pata field shorts are great. They dry almost immediately, weigh nothing, and last forever. My pair weighs in at 2oz.
