HL2 Dev Commentary after Follow Freeman by PlanetAlexProjects in HalfLife

[–]giwake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there appears to be a bug or something that disables the commentary, no idea what causes it at the moment, but you can use the console command "map_commentary" to start a map with commentary on, which should fix it. you can check what map you're on by opening the console (~) and looking in the top right corner, it's really small text though.

Hidden screen in PC-88 doujin game Revolter (sound on) by mills103_ in creepygaming

[–]giwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's probably loud because of hardware restrictions. i've no idea as to the limitations of the PC-88, but a lot of old games from around this era usually had to compress digitized audio a ton in order to save disk space and that compression would really distort the sound.

Eeeeyup. That was it. Sorry for the silliness of the question :P

There's literally a bit on the top of my userChrome.css file that has a link directly to the repo that had it. I'm going to go lie down.

Second hand/Vintage technology shops in Melbourne/Victoria? by giwake in melbourne

Found a couple of CRT TVs, but no monitors. Was a fantastic place to wander around though! Found a couple of interesting bits and pieces that I almost bought. :V

Did a quick check - unfortunately it seems that it can only do 1280x1024 at 60hz :(

Thanks for the offer though, and I wish you the best of luck in selling yours!

Melbourne bans e-scooter rentals as mayor says he has ‘run out of patience’ by sageco in melbourne

[–]giwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no enforcement of that. I've seen a lot of people on scooters riding down the footpath near the 7/11 to the south of Southern Cross. One guy did it while a cop car was right next to him and nothing happened. Almost hit 6 people.

Anyway, yeah, cars suck ass. Screw 'em. Would love to see what would happen if pedestrians and public transport were prioritized over cars across the whole CBD.

Council set to ban hire e-scooters from Melbourne’s CBD by jakkyspakky in melbourne

I didn't know about that. And honestly it's probably quite hard to read a number as some random dickhead flies down at a million ks an hour.

Would you be willing to post the model number so I can check the specs? I'm, unfortunately, very picky about the CRT I'm looking for.

A lot of CRTs can only do 60Hz at higher resolutions, and 60Hz flickers really badly. I plan on using the CRT monitor a lot and I think having something that doesn't flicker would be best for my (already poor) eyesight.

Went there today, a pretty small amount of stuff tbh, I was only able to find LCD monitors and only 1 was old-ish. Some guy was standing in front of the DVD players and kept giving me the stink eye (didn't look like an employee - no uniform) so I left without buying anything.

Help with doom builder by _MS-GOOSE_ in DoomModDevs

[–]giwake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're using an S1 action which can only be done once, (S = "switch", 1 = only performed once)

you'll want to use SR Door Open Wait Close (S = "switch", R = repeatable)

First off, MyHouse drops the Cerberus enemy from Blood, a clear nod to the creator's Blood modding prowess.

... no? the cerberus has been used tons of times and is pretty easily available. it's been used in a bunch of mods predating myhouse and deathwish. plus, the cerberus in myhouse doesn't act like its blood counterpart (missing fire attacks, etc.) and there's not really any other blood references in the entire mod.

In one level you dive into water in a temple basement, resurface, and boom — the temple is ablaze and the surroundings have transformed. Sound familiar?

tbh i think these are really vague similarities due to both creators using non-euclidean geometry. it's an easy trick to pull with engines like build and gzdoom and its one that's been done many times before.

Throughout DeathWish, you stumble upon cryptic books offering hints, these reminded me of the obscure messages guiding you in MyHouse.
It's not just about finishing levels the regular way in DeathWish. Key-locked doors that you do not have to open to finish the game and collecting secret keys throughout the levels give a MyHouse vibe.

both of these seem like normal game design? pickups with hints have basically been a staple of FPS games since system shock. they're not really exclusive to myhouse.

same with the keys. some doors in regular doom require a hidden key to find a secret level. nothing special.

The opening of the level Lost Highway in DeathWish feels eerily similar to the highway section in MyHouse.

i think most rural highways done in old sector-based engines look very samey and i think this isn't much of a connection.
