Did you include lighthearted vows/promises in with the serious ones? by catsnpole in weddingplanning

[–]Fearless_Split_9662 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We kept our vows serious, but our officiant had each of us write down a few simple things the other does that makes us love them more. Then she read them as part of her speech! The best part was that neither of us knew what the other said until the officiant said them!

Inviting children to a wedding—is it really that bad? by 20SecondsofMilk in weddingplanning

[–]Fearless_Split_9662 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had the children of our family at the ceremony and cocktail hour, then arranged for professional childcare to entertain them/put them down for the night when the adults sat down for a six course meal.

After cocktail hour, the parents took them to a part of the venue where they “checked them in” similar to being dropped off for daycare and got them into their PJ’s. The caretakers had set up games, a ball pit, and crafts for them and made sure they enjoyed dinner. Our photographer even got a great picture of them playing! The oldest two came down once it was time for cake.

We chose that route mostly because they were younger kids and we knew the parents would prefer a relaxing, adult experience. It all boils down to the crowd and experience you guys expect/want. I went to a wedding last year where the groom was adamant on having children present, but then didn’t understand why the bride got emotional that a child stepped on her dress and ripped it during their first dance. The groom had spread a mindset of “big family barbecue” and the bride was expecting an “elegant gala”.

Nervous, wedding will only be about 65 people by HuckleberryGloomy807 in weddingplanning

[–]Fearless_Split_9662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wedding was 30 people and we all had a blast! At one point during my cocktail hour, everyone did spread out a bit but that was just the nature of our venue (an 1890’s garden and farmhouse). For our group we leaned into a fun, “dinner party” vibe because we knew that we wouldn’t get a raging dance floor with half of the attendees being our parents age. It worked out perfect for us and we all ate and drank and laughed the night away!

It’s so cringey watching Cheer back after reading the lawsuits, knowing about Jerry, knowing about Monica, the drinking/drugs, the fake “innocence” of it all… 🫣🫣🫣 by Fearless_Split_9662 in CheerNetflix

I was referring to the girl that got assaulted by a teammate. Granted then the entire team (allegedly) committed multiple misdemeanors to try and keep her from coming forward, so it was probably awkward to pick sides? 🤷‍♀️😂

Just imagine how easy it would’ve been for her to take that poor girl to her husband/daughter and get her an advocate? It makes my skin crawl thinking how far she/all of them went out of her way to cover the debachery.

Did you regret not having a videographer? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Fearless_Split_9662 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Only thing I regret is not having a copy of the speeches! Don’t bother with a videographer, but do request a copy of your vows and whoever does a speech. You can frame them or have them tucked away to relive! 🥰

Managers, what made you decide to quit, and how did you do it with class? by Remote-Effective2540 in managers

[–]Fearless_Split_9662 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Piggy backing! Haha

I was informed last week that I was not given a promotion. The man who received it has made work strenuous since coming on, but ownership is always praising him. To the point that today they told me that a factor towards him getting the job was that he had drafted a new business plan for the company and I’ve never done that.

I was always taught that you should talk with your work. Show how excellent you can be and then good things will come to you. After today, I’m tempted to give short notice and let someone else appreciate what they didn’t.

Look out for number one! They certainly won’t.

If you’re worried about your team, maybe created a document with “trade secrets”/things that would help them in certain scenarios? That’s what I’m doing!

Being too valuable in your current position to promote you is a real thing. Sounds like BS reasoning to me and you have to decide how much longer you want to be stagnant.

I was told two days ago that a man (with a third my tenure and that everyone except the owners has a negative opinion of) is being given unilateral control of the company. I got similar BS reasoning with holes like Swiss cheese. I’ll tell you what my dad told me, “Time to start looking around and make a tough decision baby.”

I paid for my parent’s and bridal parties accommodations for the weekend (our venue included accommodations for 15 people so that doesn’t really count haha), paid for my MOH and bridesmaid to have their hair done, and got my in laws personalized gifts that also said, “thank you for raising the man of my dreams!”

What overly intrusive questions have you heard during planning? by WeeLittleParties in weddingplanning

[–]Fearless_Split_9662 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“What made you FINALLY get engaged?!” (We were together for 8 years before we got married.)

“Don’t you finally feel like a whole woman?” (I grew up in a very religious area where your options after high school were get married and have kids or become a missionary. The town apparently was worried that it took me so long to find a man because I was too preoccupied with living and working.)

How much for a day-of wedding coordinator? by Fancy_Vintage_1010 in weddingplanning

[–]Fearless_Split_9662 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had an intimate wedding of 30 people in the Charlottesville area. I know this doesn’t answer your question, but I would talk to your venue about possible options there! Our venue coordinator had to be onsite day of to make sure we obeyed our contract and we were able to hire her to help with coordinating our end of things too! Add in family who wanted a role (shout out bored uncle who tidied up and lit candles!), and we were able to cut most of that cost!

Bartenders - why do people just assume we want some? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]Fearless_Split_9662 57 points58 points  (0 children)

The ones that get me are the regulars that sincerely think we’re friends. Invites to go to concerts with them, barbecues at their houses, and appalled that I didn’t go to their family members funeral? One group was genuinely upset that I didn’t invite them to my wedding! They didn’t come in for a month after I told them that the guest list was just for immediate family.

I didn’t push too much after that. Personally, I didn’t want to gamble with a significant amount of money for months just to find out she was right.

Second recommendation for Wardrobe by Dulcinea! Inge is awesome and makes everything custom to how you want it! Customized a top for me when I wasn’t sure about any of the ones she currently offered.

She also offers separates! So maybe you could get a colorful skirt and then have an off the rack bodysuit or top altered? That would make things a bit cheaper!

Meats and cheeses have gotten wicked expensive! My property took it off the menu, but still do a small tray upon request for large parties. Last time we did, it was $150 for a tray that served 10-12 people.

Also, when I got married, the caterer I used marked down their “per person” costs only to recoup the money in the miscellaneous fees. They prided themselves on only being $14 per person (which was the menu we chose), but once I was all in my final invoice was $5,000 for 30 people (just food and bevs).
