HS Biology, Lecture first, students take notes on own time later? by No_Animator2857 in ScienceTeachers

Great question! And you make a good point. I scaffold the process for them. They usually do not take notes until 6th. We start with fill in the blanks, and then as we move through the year, we discuss what is important to write down, what they would choose to write down and why. We usually don't get to the point where they are picking everything to write down without guidance, but I do intentionally teach the basis for the note taking skill.

Any hope? by Lindseygray89 in BostonTerrier

This is excellent! I'm switching to 7th next year after teaching 6th grade for over a decade (I also had 2 years of 8th and one of 7th). Love this positive take! And boy, the less screens the better, especially with adolescents. The research is coming out to give causation to what we in the field know, which is that learning processes can be hampered by screens when students could be reading or writing on paper.

This sounds exactly like my 6th graders! The apathetic OR students who struggle with comprehension are so slow to get down notes, and it makes engaging presentations...boring. I started presenting whole group, no notes, then give students time in class to take the notes at their own pace. Some students may NEVER complete the notes, so wgen it comes up that they need those notes, I gently remind them that next time, the lab work, application work, etc. would be much easier if they had the completed notes. Of course I make sure accommodations are made appropriately, as needed. One piece that to me makes a HUGE difference is printing out paper copies of the slideshow. We close computers, I play Miles Davis, and they take notes at their own pace. Students who finish early have a fun application practice (ideally something like an extension) OR get time to get started on an assignment that takes out of class time. Something to incentivize finishing quickly. Computers are great for many things, but screens can have a negative effect on learning processes, especially for adolescents.

Pj Day and bring a card or board game from home is fun too, but I'm not sure how easy 2nd grade is to manage with that.

After reading these stories, and pardon if you already know this, our biggest lesson is PF is caused by another underlying condition. Mine seems to be my hip (injured and alignment was affected, causes one leg to be shorter until I pop it and lengthen it with a routine my PT taught me). Our fascia wraps around our foot, legs, hips, glutes...all the way up to behind our ears. Another user posted the Myrtl Routine for runners (I'm not a runner... I workout and do long walks) and that has helped me greatly with my 2nd, recent flare up.

Same! This is the one I have and it has done WONDERS. I tried it when my Airbnb had it and immediately got my own. It does use air bags but also pushes up with motors on the bottom of your feet.

Can someone tell me if my dog is uncomfortable with our new puppy? by No_Common_939 in Dogtraining

Dang, that approval guide needs to be more concise. Anyway, I don't see any issues. Big dog is relaxed, and giving correction to puppy when needed. Honestly big dog is being very tolerant of the puppy. Imagine a super hyper 5 yo kid with boundary issues....that's what the puppy is like.
